After what feels like quite a long wait, Wave 1 of the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - Expansion pass is now available.
If you've already pre-ordered the expansion pass ($19.99 USD), your game should auto-update. Pre-orders also include a special bonus in the form of an extra costume and weapon for Link. These items are Prototype Ancient Gear and a Sword.
Wave 1 - "Pulse of the Ancients" adds a new playable character, new weapon types, another difficulty level, new challenges and tougher enemies.
"Stop by the Royal Ancient Tech Lab to test yourself with new challenges to unlock weapons and new helpful features! Then, dominate the battlefield as the new playable Battle-Tested Guardian or try out the added weapon types—the Flail for Link and Master Cycle for Zelda. These new combat styles will come in handy in the new Apocalyptic difficulty and against added enemies like the bomb-throwing Moblin and a Giant Chuchu."
Wave 2 - "Guardian of Remembrance" will arrive this November - and includes new character vignettes, new stages, an "expanded roster" and new battle skills for existing characters.
Will you be returning to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity to try out this new DLC? Leave a comment down below.

Apocalyptic difficulty? Pshawwww, Lady Urbosa shall rain down death and lightning! Princess Zelda shall crush her foes beneath the wheels of the Master Cycle!
I really hope Robbie, Purah, Sooga, and Astor are in Wave 2 :’( Perhaps I should lower my expectations so I don’t disappoint myself.
The fact Robbie & Purah aren't in the DLC based off Sheikah tech makes me worry if we'll actually get Sooga and Aster. Unless they do a free update adding the villains like the original Hyrule Warriors did, of which I'm doubtful.
Any word on performance improvements?
I guess the second wave arriving in November pretty much confirms that we are getting another Direct between September and October.
If you're not all that excited for this, then there's that.
I'm still disappointed Robbie and Purah weren't playable after they each had their own trailers. Deceptive marketing!
I wonder what time it gets released
It is available? How do you access it, then?
It downloaded and there isn’t anything happening in the game that’s any different than the usual.
Move along, nothing to see here.
I also looooove how they bait and switched Robbie and Purah.
Just like how they bait and switched the main story of the game from “it’s the actual events of what happened in the war against Ganon 100 years ago” to “just kidding” it’s a time-traveling ‘what if’ scenario.
"Download it today!"
error code 2123-1502: nope
Yeah download it today they said.
I CAN'T! Not since this royally screwed up firmware! If i call Nintendo I'll just get the same canned response. Reset your switch, Change your DNS settings, Reset your cache blah blah blah!
Fix It! Fix it! Fix It!
I just purchased it at 11:45 MTD, it's now 12:36 MTD. I've reset my switch, attempted to update both the switch and the game, which it's fully updated, booted up the game and all I recorded was the bonus content...... I mean...... Is that supposed to happen?
@Varkster That's some good thinking there son.
It seems that only the purchase bonus is available at the moment
Love the game but don't see a need for me to get the DLC for a few costumes and difficulty level. More story would have been a bigger incentive for me.
It seems Nintendolife guys haven't run into this 2123-1502 problem as they keep going like if there wasn't any problem !
I'll wait and see what's in the second wave, I'm still on the fence.
The previous Nintendo X Warriors games had an excessive amount of content but this feels lacking...
Deleted and redownload DLC and this just happened:

I thought the point of the DLC was to receive, not to lose things...
While it is temporal, this is certainly not enjoyable, to put it in the kindest way.
I still don't understand what is in this season pass. Nintendo have done such a bad job explaining it. It also feels like this update has come out too late.
It's only out in Japan so far. We can download but not play it yet.
Still wondering why they picked a character based on a generic enemy type over characters people wanted playable pretty much since release.
I 100%'d the game back when it released (on Normal difficulty anyway, but replaying the entire thing on harder difficulties with nothing to gain for it doesn't much interest me), so whilst this DLC seems neat I'm gonna skip it for now. If the second DLC is meatier then I'll probably end up picking it up.
I love Zelda on the Master Cycle, that's the kind of awesome / crazy idea I've come to expect from Warriors games
getting an error code here too....
Yeah I'm still not sold. Already having completed the base game 100%, this seems like hardly a reason to jump back in. If there was some extra story, or a real significant amount of extra stages at least, then sure, but I doubt that's the case.
@Varkster This DLC coming out in November confirms nothing of the sort. There's nothing stopping them from just releasing a DLC trailer for wave 2 on their Youtube channel without being tied to a Nintendo Direct. They've done so several times already with updates for games like Mario Maker and Animal Crossing. Not saying there WON'T be a Nintendo Direct between then and now but don't take it as concrete evidence.
@Diddy64 Did you by chance get the 'free' DLC pass when they accidentally made that available? If so, they already announced that these players would lose that and had to purchase it anyway, and that the purchase bonus costume would also be taken away on the day of release.
@blockfight
Story dlc is probably in pack 2
@Joichi
according to the eShop it hasn’t released, still says estimated release date
@steve3564
It seems to only be out in Japan right now
Had it pre-downloaded since E3. Unfortunately, I tried accessing it for an entire hour past midnight (eastern time) and did not have any sort of luck.
@steve3564 @Giratinaloverz2 @ModdedInkling
It just downloaded for me, I don’t think it was out until now.
@Pandy hopefully.
"Download it today"
I mean i would...if i could that is...You know, a firmware hotfix would be nice. Especially during a big sale and a Tetris 99 tourney...
@Einherjar
I thought they already did that? it lets me download things easy
I remember when everyone was CERTAIN that Robbie and Purrah were going to be playable leading up to the game's initial release because they were featured in the promotional artwork. I also remember when people were CERTAIN Robbie and Purrah would be the first wave of DLC because of promotional artwork. I'm going to laugh my ass off when the next wave of DLC is playable Hyrule Bass and Octorok, and still no Robbie or Purrah.
Also what even is the Ancient Lab? It says "Test yourself," but not about what it actually is. Are we getting a full Adventure Mode sized set of challenges, like in the Hyrule/Fire Emblem Warriors DLCs? People might be less negative about this whole thing if they knew what was actually in it. As it stands, it's basically a 20 dollar mystery box.
@Pandy Nope, no update so far.
All i can do is connect to the eShop. Updates don't work, downloads don't work, online MP doesn't work properly (drops games 9/10)
I do really want the dlc, but for right now at least I'm waiting. I was going to buy it day 1, but I recently started Octopath Traveler, and I want to beat that first.
@Einherjar
Mine updated and I went into it to check and it was definitely there. Hope yours works soon.
@Octorok385
This pack adds a playable guardian, a new weapon for link, a new weapon for Zelda, new EX missions on the map and the Ancient lab.
The ancient lab adds challenges displayed like a tree with branches that sprout more branches, have’nt played it yet as it’s 10 pm where I live and I need sleep.
@Pandy
It's definitely out now. I was able to access it 2 hours ago, BUT only because I re-downloaded it. The stupid 12.0.3 firmware glitch forces you to archive the game and re-download everything.
@ModdedInkling
Weird, I’m definitely on 12.0.3 and it downloaded easy like normal with no archive needed.
@Pandy
12.0.3 is known to be very buggy (even after their first fix). I had to press download multiple times in order for it to start downloading.
@Pandy Thank you very much <3
My home screen is currently full of blinking X's
But i'm sure the fix will come...soonish ^^
Yeah i didn't buy this game because it runs like absolute ass.
Dips below 15 fps constantly, the visuals get messy really easily and it can look terrible as a result.
The gameplay is a bit messy too.
Also you can't download anything right now because Nintendo doesn't actually know how to fix this firmware issue.
Because if they knew how to fix it, it would have been fixed by now.
@RoguePirate to be honest I didn't even noticed the frame rate while I was having fun...
Scraping the barrel a bit for playable characters by introducing the guardian.
Wow so it seems like the update is a little meatier than I expected. There is a whole web of new quests to complete, high level EX challenge levels which seem to involve defeating major enemies in specific ways, and also there are elite monsters that seem to spawn randomly on the world map? "Giant Chu Chu" was a lousy way to explain this feature, it's actually fun. It's like they're trying to not sell this expansion. Very pleased so far, I guess we'll see how long it all is?
@RoguePirate how do you have such good eyesight to notice when the frame rate dips? I've love to know, I've never been able to tell the difference when I'm playing. Especially between 30 and 60. Never noticed it at all.
@Baker1000 30-60 is definitely harder to tell but i can definitely tell when a game drops below 30.
But yeah i believe that the human eye (in most cases, unless you have very sharp eyes) cannot actually catch frame rates past 45 FPS.
I know age actually plays a part in this too, the older you get the harder it is to catch frame rates.
But yeah i still notice when a game drops below 30, especially at the 15-20 mark, which Age Of Calamity drops too very often.
Can't download the patch, keep getting error codes. Plenty of free space. £17.99 well spent!
Edit: oldest IT trick in the book seems to have worked. Turned the switch off and on again. Downloading.
@Shadowmoon522 Same.
@Yosher Thankfully I buy it so I am clear. I'll try download the DLC unlock update to see how it goes, as Nintendo recently announced that it is available now.
Edit: the infamous Error Code: 2123-1502 appeared to remind me of the effects of the 12.03 update 😅
Edit 2: My second attempt was successful but, there's nothing. Do I have to go to the Ancient Lab quest from the game's story? I have all characters in case that's one of the requirements.
@Diddy64 Eyup... just have to keep trying to download it because Nintendo doesn't seem to be in the biggest rush to fix said error code issue right now. It's unfortunate. Let's hope they fix it soon though.
@Yosher Did it happened to you what I experience in the Edit 2's comment?
@Whitestrider same
@Octorok385
I pre-ordered it knowing nothing but the “hints”, lol. I also didn’t expect this much from pack 1.
@JohnnyC
Always works, lol
@Pandy Same, I preordered way back. I don't think there were even hints, other than "More characters and weapons maybe? We don't know." Still sold, I've loved everything about my time with this game.
EDIT: I'm also noticing, after spending an hour or so with the new content, that Robbie and Purah are definitely the focus of the new stuff, even if they aren't playable. I'm actually finding myself pretty pleased with the whole package.
@Diddy64 I have no idea to be honest, sorry! I also didn't buy the DLC myself because I don't really see the value in it. I hope you can figure it out though.
@Octorok385
I’ve been playing for over an hour and am very happy with pack 1. For what I paid it’s good so far, and I’m sure pack 2 will make it worth the price.
Tried it, and as someone who hasn't 100%'d the game and maxed multiple characters, I hate it. Doesn't help that I'm not a god at the Flurry Rush, which is the most important thing in this game. The Vicious Monsters for the most part are just regular bosses but they take less and do more damage, and they throw pairs of mini bosses at you mid fight, because that's really fun.
Oh and there's grinding involved, because everyone loves that. Remember literally every other Warriors game that gives you the DLC stuff right off the bat because you already paid extra for it? Not this time! Go grind, and like I said, hope you're a Flurry Rush God and love getting ganged up on, 'cuz that's the entirety of these fights.
Wish I could refund this DLC, because at this point it's making me hate the base game itself too.
@thenewguy well, i managed to get it fixed since i made that comment. i purged the cache, completely shut down the switch and turned it back on and then changed the dns to googles (primary 8.8.8.8 secondarily 8.8.4.4)
though others have not had as easy of a time fixing it.
kind of ironic that an update meant to increase stability did the opposite, guess this is what happens when you put to much into stopping the hackers who will not be stopped; only hindered.
@RoguePirate yet you didn’t buy it so you clearly do not know how it actually runs. The game runs perfectly fine
@RoguePirate yes you are a superhuman. Right, it’s just something people always complain about when they have nothing else to complain about
@Dirty0814 lol just because i didn't buy it doesn't mean i haven't played it to completion.
I have, with my brother when he bought it.
And no it doesn't run well, at all. It's easily the worst performing first party Nintendo game on the Switch, by a very large margin.
@Dirty0814 do you genuinely believe that i would make those above comments if i had not played the game thoroughly?
🤣🤣
@Shadowmoon522 thank you for your advice. Appreciate it!
