Nintendo has released an updated list of its best-selling titles in Japan, this time covering May 2021.
Monster Hunter Rise tops the list once again, making it the most-downloaded game on the Japanese eShop for three months in a row. Rune Factory 5 jumps into second place in its opening month, after launching on 20th May.
Other new entries include Miitopia, which has landed in fifth spot, as well as Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir; interestingly, Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind didn't make it into the top twenty.
Only paid downloads are included in the list, and any games that were on sale during the period are appropriately labelled (thanks, Perfectly Nintendo). Secondary numbers show last month's chart placement:

I am honestly more curious where Miitopia heads.
It's likely the canary to see if more 3DS ports are worth the effort.
They do love Human Fall Flat in Japan, don’t they!
Human: Fall Flat is in the chart, so all is well.
There is only one thing that I wish to know. What the heck is a nodage? And would it be a good or bad thing to be invited to such a party?
Three months running at number on the eShop is very impressive, MH: Rise is doing some serious business for Capcom. I’d imagine it will be more profitable than World, given the mammoth costs involved in making that on the other machines.
@Paraka I agree. I am hoping for more Mii games, maybe a sequel.
This was a pretty interesting chart with the prices. It would be better if we knew how many, but still good.
@Saturn589 - I don't think a sequel is in the cards as of now. Though, this may just show Nintendo Miis are still liked outside some superficial system avatar feature. So consideration for similar games may happen.
However, if Miitopia is successful enough, the immediate response is probably more 3DS ports, likely Tomodachi Life above all. However, I don't think that rules out games that timing was the worst enemy of all to get ports of.
Also, there is rumors of the Mii Plaza games getting a more fleshed out release as well.
I am glad they filter out F2P titles. Makes this a much more respectable list.
Only bad thing with mitosis is it requires a online membership to just download a mii.
110 hours in myself on Rise. I don’t think I’ve dedicated this much time into a game since Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Momotetsu just won’t stop!
