Update (Thu 10th Jun, 2021 00:45 BST): Publisher Neowiz and developer JellySnow has now locked in a release date for Metal Unit. It'll launch on the Switch eShop next week on 17th June for $15.99 USD or your regional equivalent.
Original story (Mon 14th Dec, 2020 02:05 GMT): Back in May, developer JellySnow Studio confirmed it would be releasing its sprawling 2D side-scrolling platformer Metal Unit on the Nintendo Switch at some point in 2021.
While we wait for the studio to lock in a release date for this version, why not take a look at the latest trailer:
Metal Unit tells a tragic story of human survivors and their battle against monsters and machines to regain control of their planet.
The Earth is under siege from all directions, with ancient beings emerging from underground and alien machines descending from space. The fate of the planet hangs in the balance, but you can help tilt the odds by playing as Joanna, a new soldier capable of wearing the powerful M-Unit suit. Follow Joanna on her epic journey to save humanity and get revenge on her traitorous sister that has taken up arms with the alien race.
The game is currently in Early Access on Steam and will be released at some point in Q4 2020. There's also a PC demo available if you would like to try it out right away. Will you be keeping an eye on this? Tell us in the comments.

Looks have few frames in the gameplay
I typically stay away from most games that have “roguelite,” but since there’s a demo, I’m open to trying to it. I’m actually kind of digging the pixel anime style.
Stupid title, great looking game. I'll give it a go on Steam, but not Switch.
Anything that reminds me of Megaman is a win.
Normally I avoid modern games with a pixel art-style but this one looks fun. Not sure if I'll get it on Switch or on PC through G.O.G. (assuming it will release on that store)
Stylistically in the vein of panzer paladin.
Saldly I burnt out on some of panzer paladins repetition before the end
Usually stay away from anything described as Roguelite/like; but will at least give the demo a shot.
At first i was like "okay... Pixelart is a pass from me" till i watched the trailer. Now i want it lol.
looks pretty o.k, but anything rogue is a no for me. Just make some games with actual levels.
this looks awesome and fast! gonna play it on my switch
wish it didn't cut to the next scene so fast in the trailer, can't get a feel for it.
This game looks fantastic. Can't explain precisely why but the manic energy of it makes me think of sci fi shovel knight.
Not a huge amount of gameplay footage there but the pixelart certainly looks great. May need a revw but I suspect I will like this game.
Looks nice, but Neowiz has dirtied it by simply being name-dropped in the trailer. I'll pass.
Any chance this gets a physical release?
Reminds me a little bit of Ranger-X. An absolute unit.
Not sure if it's just a thing that happens at the beginning, but the combo system seems clunky. I wasn't digging it. The dodge mechanic was fantastic though!
@Tourtus I am not sure if I can call this all pixels. To me the new TMNT game is all pixels or Street Fighter II or Metal Slug. This looks like pixels but not as crisp.
Looks good but I'll wait for a sale first before I get this. Doesn't feel like a $16 game to me.
I was hoping for something a bit closer to the art that the trailer opened up with in game...that being said, it doesn't look too bad. I've become more forgiving of rogue games these days, even though I rarely finish them.
I'm not going to shun it completely before I read a review, but it'll probably be something I buy on sale, play a few times, and forget about.
