Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for the week ending 18th April, revealing that Monster Hunter Rise is still comfortably leading the pack.
While sales are naturally slowing down week-on-week, the game shifted another estimated 110,050 physical copies to stay ahead of the competition. Just like last week, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury remains in second place as the best of the rest.
Koei Tecmo's Winning Post 9 2021 was the only newcomer for the top ten this week, with the Switch version narrowly outselling the PS4 version in its debut week.
Here are the top ten (first numbers are this week's estimated sales, followed by total sales):
- [NSW] Monster Hunter Rise (Capcom, 03/26/21) – 110,050 (1,884,113)
- [NSW] Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (Nintendo, 02/12/21) – 16,536 (658,642)
- [NSW] Winning Post 9 2021 (Koei Tecmo, 04/15/21) – 11,839 (New)

- [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo, 12/07/18) – 6,682 (4,242,726)
Switch remains on top in the hardware charts, too, with sales of the original model rising week-on-week, but sales for the Lite falling slightly. Here are this week's figures, followed by lifetime sales in brackets:
- Switch – 56,707 (15,735,989)
- Switch Lite – 37,350 (3,674,751)
- PlayStation 5 – 19,064 (534,073)

How can Monster Hunter rise when it’s already at the top?
(I’ll get my coat - made up of pieces of skin and horn...)
Japanese gamers continue to purchase a historically well liked, Japanese themed, Japanese series of games? Say it ain't so! LOL I kid of course. Good game, well deserved.
Well, it’s a great game so......
Great for MHR which will be 2 million physical soon enough but really pleased to see Mario 3D World continue to sell well. Probably my favourite 3D Mario game.
The Switch continues to print money for Nintendo. Here's a thought, anyone else think it's funny that both Microsoft and Sony went third-party before Nintendo? 🤣
Where have the Nintendoomed folks been lately? Have they finally run out of nonsense?
Nope. They've just shifted gears and started arguing for more and more piracy and theft.
2 million for MHR in Japan I wonder what the global sales are at?
Any guesses?
Why do they separate PlayStation 5 and it’s digital only variant? They’re the same console, the sales should be counted together.
@eaglebob345
Well historically Nintendo started as a third party company...
Still amazed by the fact Nintendo is crushing Sony and Microsoft in Japan.
@-Juice- Same reason Switch and Switch Lite are separate: different SKU's.
@Heavyarms55 or maybe they are pursuing their claims for the joy con drift !!!!!!
Hat tip to PS5 finally selling over 20k per week despite the stock shortages - pretty much the PlayStation standard in Japan nowadays. Outside select JRPG releases here and there, of course.
@dew12333 All 3 of them who actually have it. :/
Someone needs to édit that "it prints money" gif, take out the DS and add à switch in there
Not surprised as it's awesome.... enough said! Bring on Zelda SS for the next number one spot occupied by Nintendo.
Microsoft must be really glad they bought Minecraft when they did and release it for Switch. Even if the Xbox brand of hardware tank in Japan badly, at least Minecraft is still selling nonstop thus making big bucks for both them and Nintendo.
@Lord Capcom celebrated 5 million shipped a couple weeks ago. Not sure if they sold through that allotment globally yet or not. I don't believe the official Monster Hunter twitter account as mentioned anything in the past week.
At this point I will be shocked if Ring Fit Adventure doesn't get a sequel or a hefty DLC pack to release when its sales finally start slowing down.
@Lord
Should be at around 6 million total, physical + digital.
Capcom announced 4 million after 3 days, then 5 million after 10 days. They likely won't make press releases for every million moving forward though. It's stayed top of the eShop in the US with the Deluxe version also in top 30, and it's still around #50 on Amazon US a month out despite being sold out with a 3 week delay up until a few days ago.
So I imagine it's right around 6 million globally, physical + digital. Over the next 12-18 months leading up to the expansion, I figure it'll tack on another 2-3 million by the time all is said and done.
We know from historical trends MH games usually do between 3-4 million in Japan, and Rise is basically right on track with World and other games in that region, which means it has another 50% to go, and if we extrapolate that globally as sales curves as a percentage over time tend to be the same regardless of region, we arrive at the 9 million mark.
But I'm estimating 8-9m just to keep it conservative. Of course, the eventual PC release should add another 5 million to the tally, give or take a million, taking Rise within a stone's throw of World sales figures despite releasing on fewer platforms. I suspect the grand total will be anywhere from 12-15 million, depending how things play out.
@Heavyarms55,
I think at this point it's pretty obvious Switch sales are not going to fall off a cliff anytime soon, I think a few of them were banking on the PS5 and Xbox Series X affecting sales of the Switch, but that was never going to happen.
@Lord 6.5 milions units sold?
@JaxonH 12/14 milions units sold total of Monster Hunter Rise is a good estimate, how much Monster Hunter Rise can sell on Switch/PC.
@johnvboy Japan yes, but in USA/Europe PS5 is close to outsell Switch.
@Giancarlothomaz,
The two consoles do not really compete to be honest, both the PS5 and Switch will continue to sell very well.
Nice. Monster Hunter Rise is a fun game to play. ^^
Wait wait wait...are these numbers totally accurate?? I’m shocked if the Xbox series consoles have sold a total of 41k when they’re still selling out just like PS5s.
@Divinebovine like this...
@VrginX I like how Iwata is now a ghost lol...
@VrginX PERFECT
@The_New_Butler "Getting very close to 20m switch consoles in Japan alone."
20 million sold out of 53 million total households in Japan.
