Back in February, Blizzard announced Diablo II: Resurrected for multiple platforms including the Nintendo Switch. Since then, there's been very little information about the remaster of this iconic classic.
Now, though, in a new update - the company has confirmed its very first Technical Alpha for the game (for PC players) will begin this Friday and runs until the 12th April. It will give players access to Acts I & II and allow them to select the Amazon, Barbarian and Sorceress class.
In an FAQ on the same page, it's confirmed console players will be included in future play tests:
Q: Why is the Technical Alpha PC-only? Will console players be able to test Diablo II: Resurrected?
A: Diablo II: Resurrected will be launching on Windows PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. We will be including console players in our future play test phase.
To make up for this, live streams of the Technical Alpha will be on Twitch.tv and YouTube gaming this weekend.
The FAQ also mentions how the Technical Alpha is single-player only, notes how the final version of the game "will permit off-line play" in the single-player mode, will include "old in-game cinematics" as placeholders, won't allow progress to be transferred, and doesn't allow save files to be imported.
While Blizzard says there's "no release date" right now, it promises it will be arriving in 2021. Are you looking forward to returning to the world of Sanctuary? Leave a comment down below.

Looking forward to it
Keeping my eye on this, excited though
@anoyonmus Oh, I am excited too! I put a lot of hours in this game and can't wait to jump back in.
This is one of the MOST defining games! I hope I am not disappointed but from what I am seeing it looks amazing!
The best thing is that you can play with the old graphics with the push of a button!
After the Debacle called Warcraft 3 Reforged and how Activision Blizzard acts as a Company, no more Money from me.
I was happy that they refunded the Money of Reforged, but they are way closer to EA than to classic Blizzard.
That is good to hear as I really do not like to play Diablo on m+k and would like to give this a try before I buy
@Xylnox YUP, this, PSO, and FFXI were my main online games until WoW came out.
4000+ hours on D2 (2001-2004) and will do it again until D4 comes out!
Even if it turns out good I'm done giving Blizzard money. But if I did I would probably choose console controls as well. Incessant clicking in those games just isn't fun.
Funny how I remember a time when what I just wrote would be blasphemy.
Marius = Failed Frodo.
Tyrael = Failed Gandalf
Soul Stones = Rings of Power
Looking forward to my first D2 play through.
I never played the original Diablo II, but I loved Diablo III on the switch, so I'm looking forward to this. As long as it supports local co-op - I'm a little concerned about the comment 'the final version of the game "will permit off-line play" in the single-player mode'
Signed up for the PC alpha, will be bumbed out if not selected
@TSR3 offline in singleplayer means you won't need to be connected to internet to play singleplayer mode. It's a good thing
@dojmin thanks, but my concern was if the game will support local co-op. That's why I (and my partner) enjoyed Diablo III so much
And a quick bit of googling confirms couch co-op isn't supported (https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2021-02-19-blizzard-announces-diablo-2-resurrected)
Pfft Diablo... It's all about Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis!
@Azuris so Nintendo and the debacle of joy con drift is ok with you? Nintendo is in the same bracket with EA then, knowing they have poor quality goods yet not rectifying it and still selling them. As far as diablo 2 resurrected goes, I’ve tried the alpha and they have put more effort into that game then Nintendo has with skyward sword cash grab.
@My_ultimate_is_ready
Nope, Your Conclusion/Reproach is wrong.
I can't stand bad Quality Hardware since i am a Person that never sells his beloved Toys.
As i have read they're all buying the same bad Stick -,-
What a shame.
Diablo 2 can be good, but they lost their Reputation, so they have to show their Intentions.
The Command and Conquer Remake was also a love Letter and it was the first Game i bought from EA since Mass Effect 2.
But such Games are often calculated ones to win Sympathy.
So i'll watch'em
@Azuris cool cool cool, all good. From what I’m seeing D2 and D4 is looking quite promising, keep an eye on them
