Nintendo Life is a family-friendly website, so although Lil Nas X's music video for his newly-released single, 'Montero (Call Me By Your Name)' is an absolute banger, we shan't be sharing it here for a number of reasons. If you have a search engine and a guardian's approval, we have no way of stopping you from finding it, though.
In the video, Lil Nas X (henceforth known as LNX) portrays a range of different characters, from Adam (of, you know, Adam and Eve) to the actual devil, as well as himself, LNX. He also wears a few outfits, although pretty much all of them are less "outfits" and more "fancy underpants" - which fits him right into Hades' pantheon, a group of very attractive gods who seem to see clothing as more of a suggestion than a requirement.
Antonio Demico is a concept artist who is currently working on Hexbound, a Kickstarter-funded and very beautiful expansion for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. Evidently, he has enough free time and creative juice leftover for this incredible imagining of LNX as one of Hades' gods - even managing to replicate the art style of Supergiant's mildly successful game.
This art was so well-received by the community on Twitter that even Nas himself retweeted it - praise indeed, considering the guy just released a single and is probably pretty busy right now.
We highly doubt that Supergiant Games is going to make a Hades DLC with Lil Nas X in it - largely because they seem to be quite fond of sticking to actual myth - but if they did, he would quickly shoot up the ranks to be our favourite god. Sorry, Dionysus: you've been demoted.
...We do wonder if Lil Nas X would defeat Hades the same way he defeated Satan, though. Ahem.

Love him. Who knew Satan was a daddy dom?
Looks about right to me.
This is beautiful! As unrealistic as it is I wish they'd make a whole game centered around this interpretation of Lil Nas, with him involved to infuse his style and creativity into the endeavor. Preferably with lots and lots of satanic stuff just cause the reaction to the music video has been hillarious.
@nessisonett I thought everyone knew!!!
This is funny, but the Guy Fieri one is the best by a mile! 🤣

The perfect crossover has arrived.
@samuraicop this is a reference to Lil Nas X's latest and excellent music video.
This is brilliant! And fits quite well with the spirit of the game!
Yeah... No thanks.
Something about him and his little human blood shoes puts me off. Not even a religious dude.
God of Montero is what hit me hard
Very nice art
@Paraka you know the blood thing was probably them messing with the reactionaries who clutch their pearls at LGBTQ+ community's very existence? As someone who's been told I'm demonic scum, I'm going to hell to burn and so on I'd mess with em' in a heartbeat. There's a lot of people in the community who would as well, its like a pastime.
Don't like it...plus don't like male strippers. I also don't like their music.
@GrandScribe - Not sure how human blood is comparable to someone who berates others for their sexuality. Unless you think anything goes for retaliations, it just seems like escalation of the "get 'em" internet arguments. Curious when it gets to punching each others faces in to spite a glare.
@Paraka I never said the blood was comparable, I'm very confused how you came to that conclusion. I said it was a tool, a means for an oppressed person to screw with their oppressors. A normal behavior of oppressed peoples is to appropriate attacks by oppressors like being called ungodly or demonic to leech away the power that fuels the attacks.
These people don't just call us demonic, or ungodly or abominations they socially and legally oppress us. These people harass us, destroy our property, beat us and even murder us. They are they leading cause of mental illness in the community, and they know and take pride in it. For Lil Nas to escalate he'd actually have to harm them, instead of them taking offense at him doing him.
@GrandScribe - Are you suggesting only Christianity is the leading cause to mental illness, and they are all in unison the same oppressor and offendee of some inocuous music video? That's quite a stretch man. Honestly.
And what he is doing is escalation. You don't go from simply word to physical violence. It goes from offense, to more and more egregious offenses til eventually it becomes vandalism, threats, destruction and eventually physical violence to one another.
And honestly, I would wager doing the "heretical" thing of suggestive sacrifice of human blood for a material gain is pretty up there with them. Definitely escalation from where I am standing. It'd be like slaughtering a cow and tagging every Hindu you know because they, much like Catholicism and other Abrahamic religions, frown on homosexuality.
@Paraka thank you so much for all that blatant hardcore homophobia and school grade attempted gaslighting.
At no point did I say all Christians, at every point I was focused on the Christians who take sadistic pleasure in hurting my community. I never said the sadists were the leading cause of mental illness I said they were the leading cause of my community's mental illness.
If you punch me in the gut and I punch you back that's not escalation that's a neutral reaction, its self defense. To compare what Lil Nas did to vandalism, threats, destruction, physical violence things the LGBTQ+ community suffer from daily because of these sadists is absurd. The sadists are not victims!
If you were knowledgable at all on this topic you would know that one of Europe's greatest exports ever to places like India was homophobia and transphobia. There are multitudes of Hindus, Muslims, Jews and Christians who respect us and love us they deserve better than erasure as a means of weaponizing their entire religions against the LGBTQ+ community.
@SuperCharr Thank you.
This thread... wow.
@kingbk nah not the whole thread. Just the two. I personally, speaking from a professional opinion, believe that articles involving current topics like this need to stay off a gaming site for exactly the reason we see above. It’s bound to trigger someone and then we have conversations like the one above that only incites more division and unrest in the comments section of a silly gaming site that’s suppose to be fun. It’s bad for business.
@Sourcecode Here here. It's part of the reason I can only read Kotaku is small doses. Too many politics. I like their investigative reporting, but too often they like just inject political views into random video game topics where they really don't fit.
No thank you. I have nothing nice to say about the guy.
@kingbk Totally agree! Politics don’t belong in every facet of life.
@GrandScribe - Asking questions for clarification isn't homophobia dude, it's called counter points. It's a forum, expect that not everyone shares your same view of the group, and that does not mean it's instantaneously an attack on your identity.
And you're also assuming I am associating LNX's video to immediate violence, you read too quickly for a narrative that doesn't exist. I pointed out was escalation is, and that is grows from one to another.
In fact, you're overt reaction and calling the counterpoint homophobic is exactly the point I was making. Our conversation went from me not liking shoes, to you implying I shouldn't be effected cause it's only to rile up some group, implying that I am part of said group. Now we are here, with you claiming all I am doing is gaslighting. That's escalation, forums often get into heated arguments is also a sign of escalation, the next steps could be strawman arguments, real gaslighting or name-calling. Or we can be aware emotions are running hot and de-escalate.
Your claim that all those that are offended are also those that attack your community, it only solidifies your own personal perspective of what's going on. Of course, there is likely LOADS of overlap of those that hate gays and are offended by some video, but that doesn't mean all those who are taken up arms against some video or shoe is that very group, or that those who don't take it negatively are deserving of it.
In a way, your associating my bad taste for his human blood shoe equal to them with your immediate justification of that "It upsets the groups I don't like!" The thing is... I ain't religious, I have done my share of bible-bashing growing up, so I get what you're trying to say, even when you're attempting to make me look like the pearl-clutching fool.
And I am quite knowledgeable of the subject. Homophobia, amongst many of the Abrahamic religions, was manufactured to scare people into procreating "as (insert god) intended." It was leverage to procreate and gain more soldiers, also one of the reasons males were more revered for births at the time as well. Excuses like family lines and such. Over time, that same practice became the same pressure ket for other religions to build their armies, even China had done it in the past (and currently now).
@Sourcecode @kingbk I prefer to separate Gaming and Politics too... I also think that most articles here do a very good job. Although, the Comment Section is a completely different animal lol.
Just because someone chooses to make a political or divisive comment does not necessarily mean that the article is political or divisive.
Some people on this site get so "triggered" over just about anything from Brie Larson to March 31st. If every article was conditional upon the users' responses then there wouldn't be too much to read.
In short, some of the commenters bring divisive politics with them to any topic.
@CBordo - Well first, I get it. Second; Don't really care about the video, or his music, or his identity. So his portrayals in his videos mean nothing to me, this ain't me bashing LNX or anything.
I just said his shoe thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. That's all. The weird "human sacrifice" sort of angle he's going for just hits a chord in me that I don't like.
Not sure how human sacrifice symbolism equates to taking back control, or whatnot, but I guess that's perspective thing.
That’s cool. Getting some SMT vibes. Never heard of the guy though.
@CBordo - Gotta ask you this; What, exactly IS the intended audience for blood infused shoes?
Serious question, cause I cannot think of anyone outside a satanic cult types that would actively enjoy it, all religiousness nonsense aside.
Just the idea alone that you're standing on someone's flesh I would be certain would creep a bunch out.
SIDENOTE: I never once had an opinion on the video in regards to this thread, just used it in examples to get a point across.
@the4seer I really don't get the hate for her. I don't think she's this awesome actress, but she doesn't really bother me much either. She's just... an actress.
@Ryu_Niiyama same
@the4seer now you’ve made me want Brie Larson to officially declare Mario-anniversary over on the 31st whereas Nintendolife writes two articles, one about Brie Larson talking about the 31st and then another article talking about the 31st and mentioning Brie Larson’s tweet.
this comment section got weird? i don't see any reason for this to get complaints any more than the rest of hades, fits perfectly in line with it + is cool as hell (pun not intended); this just feels like people getting upset about Doom all over again
@SuperCharr for someone who has literally said "don't fear cancel culture my friend" you sure are fast to shame a site for talking about perhaps the most harmless thing i've seen in a minute
@the4seer while I agree, Lil Nas X is still a current hot topic of debate at the moment (even being sued by Nike) and should have been avoided altogether. Anyway, I’m not being pulled into some meaningless online banter that isn’t going to make or break my day when I wake up tomorrow. I choose to live and let live and I would implore others to do the same. Life is too short for bs.
@Sourcecode Well said 💯
I had no idea, my wife had to get me up to speed with his legal drama.
Yea... I'm not a fan (I got so sick of hearing Old Town Road on the radio every day). I suppose that I'm just too old and lame now lol.
@the4seer no worries at all and I feel ya on the age thing! 1981 here.
@kategray can you please write a guide on how to obtain a guardian's approval to watch? I tried to parry but they keep dying. I tried to find the one on Old Town Road, but it was covered in corruption.
@Ryu_Niiyama I thought somebody once said you can't escape pop culture?
I'm so utterly disgusted by ALL of this.
This young man had so many children looking up to him. And, he even had adults who were too ashamed to be themselves, as fans who found inspiration in his courage to be who he is.
And, now we see his truth. While it is entirely his truth and his prerogative as a grown man. You would think that he would at least consider the poor impact that this will have on his young and impressionable fan base. Extremely disappointed.
Like many people, he BAMBOOZLED us.
And, yes I agree with everyone else, why is this garbage on THIS website? We don't actually come here for that type of nonsense. We are GAMERS.
@Multiboy2k Well... I wouldn't be surprised if he's already fully recognized that impact.
I've only recently learned about the shoes and the controversial music video, however, think about all of the free press that it's going to generate. Think about all of the attention that it's generated on here, in such a short period of time.
I don't really follow his music. Although, if he has an album coming out soon then it's bound to sell very well, following the controversy.
@Multiboy2k is "so many people tell gay people they're going to/to go to hell so I made a music video about that" not "his courage to be who he is" or is courage just being who he is without weaponizing it
also like 90% of the random articles are just whatever vaguely nintendo related tweet is being shared around the most right now (in this case the tenuous stretch of "it is on the switch") so i don't really know where you've been with "why is this garbage on THIS website" (this also goes to @Arkay)
@Arkay @Multiboy2k @Multiboy2k @SuperCharr
Is the degeneracy that he’s gay? That he’s give a fake devil a lap dance? Because all of your Nintendo games are lined with subtext to Shinto which is a pagan polytheistic religion also deemed anti-christ by the same religious groups currently attacking LNX. This article is related to Hades, a switch game which is also about Hades in which you don’t only play as a demon son. It’s based around a pagan polytheist religion that is also ‘degenerate’ in the eyes of the church. Just say you have an issue with gay people and not the whole demonic aspect you bunch of hypocrites.
@NEStalgia you can’t. Not really. You mean cuz I don’t know who this guy is? Yet he shows up on the gaming site I visit. Case in point. I didn’t know who souja(sp?) boy was either until NL. I mean I only now know these folks in a gaming context but still. I do wish NL would spend more time talking about people in the industry.
@CBordo - Wasn't talking about the video, was talking about the shoe.
Like, this whole conversation has reminded me of an old woman in my childhood. We knew where she lived, but never actually met her. However, she was known for selling leather-bound books using human skin. I remember the news touched on it and shortly after she just vanished, no moving trucks, no appearances, just... Poof.
But something about the human skin books weighed heavily on me then, still does. Not sure why, wasn't raised religious. Hell, my mother ran a fetish shop growing up. Yet, these things don't land right with me.
@NEStalgia you have to offer up the Old (Town Road) Blood that you can find in the Sheriff's Office. That should give you the ability to speak to the guardian and get their signature
To everyone else: being gay isn't a political stance. It is a fact.
We spend plenty of time speaking about the industry. I, as a member of the LGBTQ+ community and a person who plays games, enjoy covering stories that interest me. They certainly don't minimise the other stories on the site, which you can read instead, if you want.
@Ryu_Niiyama Then again, I didn't know the guy was some kind of political hot button until this article, either.... I was aware of the "music", not the celebrity, apparently. See, we can escape pop culture!
@KateGray I knew I was missing something! This demands a video guide!
@J-Biz stop projecting, the issue isn't that he's gay, I have many friends that are part of that community and I respect their preferences as much as they respect mine. Get out of that victim mentality. The issue is I don't want to see some dude lap dancing the devil on a nintendo site, I'd hate to see W.A.P being covered here as well, since that is also degenerate.
@Arkay This is nothing new though. Freddie Mercury was doing the exact same thing back in the 80s. Was that ‘degeneracy’?
@nessisonett I didn't see him rubbing his privates with someone else in front of millions of people, kids as well. Now I agree that parenting is up to, well, the parents but you have to agree that kids shouldn't be exposed to these things so easily.
Everything in its own time.
Mercury's music was great, there is no lie there.
@NEStalgia everthing is a political hot button. Nobody knows how to just ignore stuff they don’t like. Unless it impacts laws like the Jim Crow remix going on with voting now or actually hurts others just let people do them and everyone stay in their lane.
@Ryu_Niiyama Why, why, why, why, why can we not just uninvent the internet? Just WHY? The earth was such a nice place before the internet. We only had world wars once or twice a century, and when the world was ending on a bi-weekly basis we didn't have to actually know about it!
@NEStalgia not really. It’s just it was easier to live in a bubble (for good or ill). Humanity’s problems aren’t new. It’s just for good or ill everyone has (usually anyway as that isn’t universal and people use violence to no platform others) a megaphone now. Like anything else humans make, it helps some people and hurts others. Same song till the sun enters its next life stage.
@Ryu_Niiyama Bubbles were good. People that didn't want to be subjected to things didn't know about them and could build their world around themselves. People that wanted to participate in things did in the bubble they built around themselves without people that didn't want to be subjected to it being subjected to it. (For the most part, of course.) It's what kept most people from being on a permanent war footing against all other people. Bubbles are essential. It's why countries, and before them city-states were formed. I think living within a "world" or "bubble" of a certain scope is absolutely essential for human functioning. Different people are inherently different, sometimes due to nurture, sometimes nature, sometimes a combination of the two. Throwing like with like tends to result in at least a pseudo-harmony. Trying to throw everyone into one big "global citizenry" and one big shared "community" (which is anything but) is just recreating Babylon on a bigger scale. It's doomed to failure. And the internet is the tower. People will always - always - try to segment into a similar group, rebuild the bubbles. I'm not sure that's a "flaw" - it's only a flaw when an outside influence is trying to inorganicaclly graft different and incompatible organisms into one. The interent tries to join, not just in terms of different bubbles coexisting in the same georaphical space, but instead tries to burst the bubbles and merge them all into one mindspace where everyone's a part of everyone else's world, no matter how incompatible. So much conflict is the result of that. People of bubbles that were perfectly fine ignoring each other before forced into the same mindshare. Once two desperate groups are forced into competing for the same bubble, they'll simply end up competing until only the one remains or at least controls the other. And that is the entire nature of the internet at this point.
And in the modern world, the things that "help some, hurt others" seem to always help the same people....funny, that.
It’s truly disappointing to see such blatant homophobia, gaslighting, hypocrisy and abused privilege here. I’m really glad that there are folks speaking out against it. We don’t always agree on other, much less important, topics but I’ve seen many of you speak up when these things come up in the past and I’m very glad you do!
@Arkay I wasn’t projecting or being a victim, admittedly different parts of my reply were more relevant to some of the other people I tagged in my reply than they were to you, but you do you. NintendoLife managed to cover the story with warnings and without showing any images of lap dancing and with numerous NSFW and reference to getting a guardians approve etc.
Huh after looking into this guy more this is pretty cool. I can’t afford those shoes but I respect the message. Which seems to be a rallying cry against the harm religion has inflicted upon gay people especially in a land that supposedly has freedom of religion (but not freedom FROM it of course). Even worse the indoctrination forced on the AA community by the cultural obliteration that is the american slave trade/jim crow/systemic racism.
@NEStalgia That is an interesting viewpoint. I disagree completely but it was interesting to read.
