In Rays of the Light has a surprisingly long history. Developed by Sometimes You – who previously released 7th Sector on Switch last year – their latest game is a remake of 2012's "The Light", which released on Steam last year as "The Light Remake". Now, it's coming to Switch on March 17th.
Revealing a trailer for the PS4/PS5 version, Sometimes You has also released this gameplay outline on the Switch eShop:
A new game from the developer of 7th Sector, Sergey Noskov. There is only you, the abandoned remains of a former life and the flourishing nature that feels great in the absence of man. This world is both gloomy and empty, but so incredibly beautiful. In Rays of the Light is an atmospheric author’s parable about our place in this world, life and death. Explore a mysterious territory filled with a variety of details that reveal the story. Solve logic puzzles and study text messages along the way.
Calling this a "First-person meditative quest", Noskov also details a "philosophical story" which gets revealed by a detailed study of your surroundings. All of this ties into two different endings, which presumably hinges on what you discover.
Early adopters in the UK and Europe can pick it up with a 20% pre-order discount, costing £5.75 / €6,39. Otherwise, it'll retail for $7.99 in the United States.

Thought the thumbnail image was of an abandoned Nintendo office building for a moment.
This looks very atmospheric. If it gets a physical edition I will get it.
I knew I wasn’t cut out for philosophy when someone asked me: “what is the difference between a duck?” - and I couldn’t answer. If anyone has light to shed on this conundrum, please let me know. It’s stumped me to this very day.
@Maxz Pretty sure they were just pulling your leg or I’m just not cut out for philosophy.
@bobzbulder So I’ve done some research, and apparently the answer is, “one of its legs is on the other side”.
It all makes sense now.
Reality has come into focus as if the universe itself has shifted into some sort of cosmic alignment, imbuing all things great and small with an unwavering sense of clarity and exposing the hitherto unseen interconnectedness of each and every atom in existence.
Sorry, I’m pulling philosophy’s leg. So, I believe, was the person who posed the original question. Although “one of its legs is on the other side” was the answer they gave, so they’d at least thought the absurdity through! It’s a nonsense question I’ve grown rather fond of.
Looks interesting, but would have to see how much of a downgrade the Switch version is first. Getting odd Metro vibes from it
@popey1980 The eShop page has a few screenshots available, if that helps
Sounds nihilistic, therein Luciferian. Which would be a shame, because if it isn’t, I would be interested.
@ToneDeath I thought the same thing.
Very interesting. The biggest advantage 3D games have over 2D games is the ability to immerse you in their world, so I'm always on the lookout for games that make that their focus, for when that's what I'm in the mood for.
My jaw dropped when I watched the trailer, and I thought, "That looks damn good for a Switch game!" Then I realized it was showing the Playstation 5 version. Derp.
I like exploration games, but there has to be more to it than just wandering around, watching little videos, and reading text. If it has anything like puzzle solving, or survival mechanics, then it could be interesting. Otherwise, no thank you.
@Maxz I always thought that the answer to that question was "one side of the duck is a quack", which obviously flies directly into the face of actual science, hence the conundrum...
As for the other side of the duck: well, that's obviously just a pompous @ss, much like most brilliant scientists are...
#micdrop #noneedtothankme #you'rewelcome
@Maxz Hmm I guess that makes sense. Not entirely sure that I understand it, but that’s probably the point. It is beyond what the human brain can handle when it comes to philosophy which is probably why we enjoy thinking about those things the most.
@ThanosReXXX Honestly it seems to be whatever you want. Everyone seems to have a different answer. My theory is that the point of it is to show our desire to make something out of nothing. To think about things that make no sense and expect to understand them. The difference between a duck is that there is no duck.
If it's not to scary / jumpy, I'd defo like to check this out. And yeah, I was fooled for a second into thinking, "Switch graphics?". Still, one to watch for me.
@bobzbulder I hope that you DO understand that I was just kidding, right?
Besides, everybody knows that the ACTUAL difference between a duck is yellow...
