Earlier this week, a new update was rolled out across all platforms for Koji Igarashi's Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. On the Nintendo Switch, this bumps the game up to Version 1.21. This is the same update that was released for the Steam version last month.
It includes a "final update" to randomizer seeds and has resolved a New Game Plus crash. The same patch has also addressed a number of "Classic Mode" issues. Here are the full patch notes, courtesy of the official Play Bloodstained website:
Nintendo Switch, Version 1.21 (3rd March 2021):
- Final update to randomizer seeds and addressed issues where previous seeds were invalid. NOTE: Seeds begun or saved after 1.20 may no longer work.
- Fixed New Game+ crash
- Classic Mode: Hit detection remaining on screen
- Classic Mode: Miriam walking in the wrong direction after Gremory encounter
- Classic Mode: Instances of Gebel not appearing
- Classic Mode: Score reaches max then loops to a negative number
- Classic Mode: Double KO during Gremory encounter
- Classic Mode: Wolfman failing to reset
- Classic Mode: Mini Gebel bug
- Classic Mode: Jack (Gusion) boss not moving
- Classic Mode: Instances where enemies and game gimmicks stop moving
- Classic Mode: Disable the Pause Menu during the walking animation transitions
- Classic Mode: Miriam softlock after obtaining the heart at the end of a boss battle

Okay, this game had a very rough launch on the Switch, but I'm impressed by their dedication to keeping it updated. You rarely see stuff like that, these days. Cheers, devs!
UPDATE NINJA APPROVED
So is it good on Switch yet?
@Dezzy I have it, but I'll be honest. I haven't touched it since launch. They keep patching it, so I'm just waiting. I'll eventually check. Too involved with Demon's/Dark Souls right now lol
DARK NINJA APPROVED
Did they ever come out with co-op?
@BloodNinja Me too. Had it a while but haven't really touched it...guess I like to wait until developers are done patching so I can just enjoy the most finished and bugless version. Also I was waiting for them to add playable Zangetsu.
Perhaps they should have finished the game prior to selling it.
I’ll update tonight and report back. I tried it about 5 months ago and it was decently smooth on handheld. Can’t remember graphics, but I’m not expecting XB1/PS4 quality, just less blur and fog would be nice
@Dezzy I'd say pretty good for me, I didn't experience anything major. It wasn't perfect (tiny slowdown/graphics wonky all but for couple of moments), but absolutely not littered with bugs or something, plus I think this makes the 2nd patch (3rd?) they've put out since I finished. I plan on playing it again on harder mode and also appreciate these guys adding/patching away
I really enjoyed this game about a year ago on Switch. I’d love to get a final physical release with all the updates.
Can they already release a definitive version and when cotm2 is aged do a dual pack so we can get a physical copy withoit me remortgaging my house to do so
Updated, performing well. Game looks a lot better than it did at launch, water looks a lot better for sure. 👍
It's not bad before this update anyway tbf.
I played this on May 2020 and it was already pretty good (I'm not very picky). I should take it for a spin again since the last patches
If I had started playing this game on the Switch I probably wouldn’t know better but if you jump from the XBOneX version to this one... even after all of the patches(can’t speak for this one yet though) there is an undeniable hit to button response and frame rate that is hard to put up with. Pretty much the only Switch port where I had the feeling that I’d rather play it on the beefier console.
@Dezzy "always has been"©
To be honest I was waiting like all of you guys. I finally played it a month ago and it was great.
I think you are all ready to give it a go, you’re missing on a great Metroidvania.
Own physically on both Switch and PS4 but yet to play. I had heard the PS4 version runs better but the lack of a PS4 compatible gamepad with a proper d-pad has held me back.
Bought it this weekend and love it. The music is extraordinary, the graphics are beautiful and the game itself is a ton of fun.
@FX102A This game has had issues on all platforms. I own digital on xbox and the physical on Switch. I encounter the occasional bug on Xbox. It used to randomly crash, but that has since been patched out (for me at least).
I´m playing it on PC now, and it´s definitely a good game and a pretty good Castlevania. I´m enjoying it quite a lot. However, the 3D style... doesn´t suit well.
I prefer Blasphemous in pretty much every way, honestly (except for the variety of weapons). Specially the graphics. A sequel to Bloodstained done with the Blasphemous style would be amazing.
