Where do we even begin with this one. Most of you have likely seen last week's GameStop drama by now – and if you haven't, we've got our own rundown – but to cut a long story short, thanks to investing subreddit r/wallstreetbets, the video game retailer's stock price even rose above giants like Disney, Apple and Microsoft.
To say the very least, it's been a strange week. Plenty of drama ensued, including trading app Robinhood blocking users from buying shares and GameStop's founder called it an "honour" to be chosen. It's little surprise then that multiple companies are now planning film adaptations of this entire saga.
The first is coming from MGM, who've acquired a book proposal from best-selling author Ben Mezrich. Called "The Antisocial Network", this would follow the story of these amateur investors.
A second film is reportedly being written by Zero Dark Thirty screenwriter Mark Boal, who is currently in negotiations with Netflix over this project. Noah Centineo is also reported to be starring in a major role.
Finally, Deadline also reports that newly-formed production company Pinky Promise is planning its own limited series called To The Moon, with Noam Tomaschoff attached to write.
Understandably, given how recently these events have unfolded, how each adaptation differs remains unknown, but one thing is clear: Hollywood isn't wasting any time.
Would you consider watching a film adaptation? Got a better title for it than Reddit vs. Wall Street? Share your thoughts down below.

Gamestop vs. Reddit: The Stock Saga
Reddit didn´t do anything.
A group of users inside a Reddit community did it.
I believe that, by this time, this was clear for everyone.
"Anti-Social Network" is really a fun name, because it´s not anti-social at all compared to popular services like Facebook and Twitter. Reddit is way, way, way more inclusive
This is an article about a movie based on a book that has yet to be written.
I bet the movie still comes out before the Polymega though 🤔
I’m willing to bet that MAYBE one actually comes out
Film made:2021 Film released in cinemas: 2036
Not even a month since the occurrence and movie plans already made. Anything for a buck.
We should do this with other stocks.
@1ofUs Give'em more movie material than one could ever use in a lifetime for each stock
One good movie is enough. Knowing Hollywood it will be 3 mediocre ones instead
2 hours of memes and diamond handed apes holding GME. Yeah, can’t wait.
@Lordplops This is when nostalgia kicks in: "Remember the good ol' days when we still had physical consoles instead of just injecting a 12G chip into our brain for each game?"
...I don't think they know what "antisocial" means lol.
Of course it will. I do want to see whatever movie comes out as a result. It should be interesting.
@TeslaChippie
I take it as them using "anti-social" because they are disrupting the financial system and not playing by their rules.
I'd prefer to see a documentary rather than a film adaptation.
I want insights into the events rather than something character driven.
That one stock short in 2008 only got one movie seven years after but now some Redditors are getting two movies and a series within days alone!
As someone who works with stocks for a living, here's my hot take on the saga and everything related:
This is dumb. Stop it.
The story is literally not over yet though
@Alienfreaks04 any additional material will be covered in the sequel. Then there will be a Stockmarket simulator with Gamestop DLC.
Big shock. Zero interest in seeing a movie or reading the book. I'll be curious to see what happens with the actual GameStop retail stores.
That's a terrible idea.
I can't wait for Hollywood to brown nose Wall Street and paint a bunch of Reddit nerds as some kind of terrorist cell.
Edit: the title "Antisocial Network" is already some kind of giveaway.
Honestly this whole deal is really funny. I mean GameStop was tanking because some money hungry idiots decided to make video gaming go all digital, ruining sales for hard copies of games which is what built the video game industry from the ground up. It was causing all physical game stores to go bankrupt and in North America this was pretty much the last one, barely hanging by a thread... And now this happens... haha! Love it. 😁
@Kiyata Well to be fair GameStop has a lot to do with why they are the only ones left. You see, back in the 00's they were buying out all the big video game chains, I remember how the best video game store in my area used to be a Funcoland but then GameStop bought them out and it became a GameStop, and the quality took a massive nosedive. Basically video game stores used to be fun places to hang out with a much more friendly and relaxed vibe, then GameStop took it over and turned it all into a cold joyless corporate experience. I for one was cheering on their downfall, it would allow some independent game stores to rise from it's ashes.
@JayJ just like Walmart and Target did to small town businesses, and like what Amazon is doing to Walmart and Target? Ahh yes, the greed never ends.
I for one cannot wait until we get The GameStop Movie: The Game.
