A few years ago, Sega revived AiAi and friends in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD. It was slightly better than the Wii version but fell short of being anywhere near as good as the GameCube originals.
If you're still in need of a classic Monkey Ball-style gameplay fix, you might want to be on the lookout for Cliax Games' Paperball Deluxe, which arrives on the Switch eShop on 25th March. It replaces monkeys with talking cats and was originally published on Steam last year in March and has had a "very positive" reception. Here's what is included in the Deluxe release:
"Paperball rolls out to Nintendo Switch as Paperball Deluxe - enjoy challenging marble rolling action on the go or at home across 250 unique stages and 7 crazy game modes, with all DLC included and all-new console exclusive content!"
In addition to this is local co-op, competitive multiplayer, motion controls and HD rumble support. According to the Nintendo game page listing, this game will take up 493 MB of space.

Finally, a good monkey ball game on Switch.
Monkey ball x Pokemon
I am cautiously optimistic.
Mario 3d world and now this. this looks great. cats just rule. no pussy footing around with this game. it looks PURRfect.
I have this on Steam, brilliant little game.
Looks fun until Sega decides to release Monkey Ball 1 and 2 together on Switch
Cardboard Paper have more friction than plastic ball so it will be more challenging.
Wasn't there a game coming out at some point where the Steam version would even have a level creator and all that? Don't think this was it....
Looks fun, but man those graphics are dated even by GameCube standards.
@Joeynator3000 You're probably thinking of Marble It Up! which is an absolutely fantastic game. It has a level editor on Steam but not on the Switch version. It's honestly one of my favorite indie games on Switch.
@sketchturner he was probably thinking of the game rolled out which is a monkey ball clone that's supposed to have a level editor
Yeah, Rolled Out I think.
The voices are very annoying.
Marble blast ultra needs a port on switch
I'm interested. Waiting to see how it reviews.
looks like that hard marble game on the wii when you play as animal marbles and do courses like u see in this video but only harder. I think they should have that game for switch, it was fun and l remember how sensitive the motion was for it.
Ooo. Splendid. It's mechanics looked a little stiff, but not much. Hope it's good
Marble It Up really gets overlooked, similar concept and I think that looks better than this to be honest.
I was interested when I saw the article, but seeing that they can't even make the ball look round is really off-putting to me.
I never found the main game of Monkey Ball to be very fun. Me and my family mostly stuck to the minigames, like Monkey Target, Golf, Race and Bowling
We shall see....
Loved Monkey Ball
And I actually like these physics based games too.
@Dethmunk "It can handle this game without much effort"
You'd be surprised, this game is actually pushing the Nintendo Switch pretty hard! That said, the chunky ball is a stylistic choice. Paper balls aren't perfectly smooth, after all!
Looks fun. I hope that voice actor isn't in it though
@gcunit "but seeing that they can't even make the ball look round is really off-putting to me"
Since when is a ball made of paper perfectly round?!
Control precision and framerate are more important in games like this anyway. We can't expect a 3D inside game to look like an AAA title. Reactions like the above (not just yours) are why most indie developers stick to 2D. I think the game looks fine for what it is.
@Clyde_Radcliffe If it rolls like a ball, I want it to look like a ball. If the physics of its movement reflects its appearance then we're jammin', but looking at that trailer... there's a disconnect for me - a ball shaped like that should be bumping around, not rolling smoothly. I'm not into giving developers a pass just because they come under the 'indie' banner. I've got plenty of marble games, I don't need to do these guys any favours.
Hideous to look at and listen to but the gameplay will scratch the Kororinpa pitch I've had since the Wii so I'm all in.
It's for the DS ?
@gcunit A ball that just bumps around all the time wouldn't be very fun though.
@sketchturner Yes, I also like Marble It Up, it has tight controls, a good soundtrack, and I liked that they dropped free DLC.
Will be buying this. Hope sega comes with a new good monkey ball game too. Also monkey ball 1 and 2 would becgreat on the switch.
@BoFiS let's go pester them on twitter to release them for the switch or something. best multiplayer ever.
Yes this looks great!! I need MONKEYS IN MY LIFE!!
This looks fun, but I found Banana Blitz HD to be a stiff challenge in the later worlds (I couldn't finish the second post game world), so I'm not sure if I'm up for it.
