Call it what you want - a sequel for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is now in development for Nintendo Switch.
We still know pretty much nothing about this highly anticipated follow-up, and the last update we actually got was around 18 months ago when a surprise "first-look" announcement was shown off at E3 2019. With this in mind, our video team have decided to share their own thoughts about what we could expect.
While little is known about the actual game, one thing Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma did state early on after the announcement was how the idea for a sequel spawned from having too many DLC ideas for the original game.

It also seems like it could be a much darker game based on the tone of the announcement trailer. We'll just have to wait to find out. Until then, have a listen at what Alex, Zion and Jon have to say, and feel free to share your own theories and thoughts down in the comments below.

I love the title, "mindless breath of the wild speculation". I've been really bored this winter now that the holidays are over, and this was entertaining. Thanks Alex, Zedion, & Jon.
I want the hookshot back! I like the idea you have for it being a rune. You can use it swing around, climb mountains faster, draw enemies at you, etc.
This was fun to listen to! Admittedly, I think the hand, text, and ruins tie into the Zonai somehow. The aesthetic, geometry, and carvings are reminiscent of Zonai artefacts and architecture scattered around BotW's Hyrule. Even in the art books there are allusions to the mystery and nature of the Zonai that felt like it could of been the platform for more DLC that evolved to the point of a full blown sequel.
Calamity Yoshi.
Calamity Gammon 'n Chips.
Zelda has been Link all along and this is all taking place inside her mind, and she’s locked up in an insane asylum.
Now Majora’s Mask makes waaaaay more sense! 🤣
If nothing else, this just shows everyone is dying for more botw2 news. We got all these fake leaks lately guessing titles etc. Nintendo needs to give us something I feel. The appetite is there
@Dethmunk
BS The Legend of Zelda
BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets
The game, I guess is ready but, like the new James Bond movie (postponed again, until later in the year) a release date is the issue.
Hyrule Warriors, BoTW according to reviews is to powerful, lots of issues, for the Switch.
So I guess the new BoTW may struggle on the Switch as well.
I think a new Switch is ready for release together with BoTW2, but for Nintendo the time is not right.
@zool breath of the wild and age of calamity run great on my switch at least. The new Zelda is built to run on switch hardware and will run great.
2 things that came to mind watching this video:
@Foof Age of Tax Fraud
Botw 2: return of the tax fraud
We all want the game but I do feel that NL are selling themselves short on all these video's. Just tell us about games that you know about and leave the speculation alone. Unless it's Alex on his own then he can say what he bloody likes.
My spec: it will be called botw2. If it comes out this year, we’ll know about it really soon. Mainline Zelda games are 'must have at all costs' kinda games, so I would be surprised if Nintendo didn't capitalize on that in some way like they've done with the last 3 big Zeldas
Fun speculation video. This and the BotW video surprised me by keeping my attention throughout. You should keep doing these types of videos. As you get accustomed to a format and what works best I think they will only get better.
The wish-casting I enjoyed most:
I would add that Nintendo probably has good data about the areas explored the least in the original map and that should be the first target of the biggest changes in Hyrule.
Also, I feel some of this stuff has support from what was shown:
The cinematic is an underground cave. Yes, that makes sense storywise but it also could suggest that new additions are underground/indoors. That along with the common fan complaint that the divine beasts did not live up to the dungeons/temples of past games could be an area Nintendo would like to rectify in the sequel.
Nintendo will do what Nintendo wants to, of course.
Some actually news on BOTW2 would be nice, it’s been nearly two years since the teaser trailer
Love these videos, I WANT MORE.
I saw on another video that they wanted to bring the Minish into the original, but they got overshadowed by the rest of the world... bringing the Minish in would open the world up EVEN MORE. imagine having to explore the already massive world, but even smaller. Not sure how that would work. Definitly seems that that, opening up tunnels and temples across the land, having the world slightly more built up and then the raised up section(s) - hyrule castle and more - it would make the world very different. Im pretty sure i saw somewhere there was originally Ganondorf (or a similar shadow) standing on top of an island/mountain floating in the sky? AH im so psyched. I WANT IT NOW!
I'm thinking the rising hyrule castle is possibly a new giant tower, or possibly it flies like a ufo. This link to the Making of BOTW video will play at the relevant time stamp. https://youtu.be/30jGWna4-Ns?t=188
@WoomyNNYes Yeah, but then I just watch in a minute more and fall in love (again) with that 2D prototype they made. I’d love it if they made that into a complete game... or even just let us play with it glitches in tact.
@aaronsullivan That 2D BOTW prototype could be a neat offering for Zelda's 35th anniversary. Although, it might be just an assortment of disconnected prototypes with no story or progress on system. Or "mess" might be a better word than "assortment" XD
Loved the video!
Maybe.... the mysterious hand ungrasps Ganondorf in order to save Link and Zelda from falling???!!
The Beetle from Skyward Sword would be incredibly useful, particularly for exploring shrines. It was hyped up as the future of Zelda dungeons back in 2011, yet we haven't seen it since (except in Smash). Would be a good new Sheikah Slate module.
@Brummieendo90 I'm only referring to some reviews I've read, maybe these reviewers have a keener eye for frame rate for example.
But it would make sense if Hyrule Warriors BoTW was built for a more powerful Switch.
