As we get closer to R-Type Final 2's launch, Granzella has begun kicking its launch preparations into gear. Confirming a Japanese release date of April 29th via Famitsu, it has now revealed it'll be accompanied by a "Special Chronicle Box".
Retailing at ¥16,830 – which roughly comes in around $160 / £117 – it comes with 6 different items in total. That includes a theme song CD by MCU – a member of hip hop's Kick The Can Crew – alongside several throwbacks to earlier R-Type entries, making this one for the long-term fans. Oh, and with this being 2021, it naturally comes with a face mask.
Here's what you can expect within:
- MCU x R-Type image song CD
- R-Type chronicle T-shirt
- R-Type logo sticker
- Face cover mask
- R-Type Final 2 PC Engine package-styled keychain
- Reprinted arcade leaflets of R-Type, R-Type II, R-Type Leo, and Armed Police Unit Gallop
We should also note that the Special Chronicle Box isn't a special edition for R-Type Final 2. Though both are launching on the same date, this new set doesn't include the game itself, making it a separate item. We hope you've got accommodating wallets!
Sadly, it seems unlikely this will come to the West, and our usual import sites like Amazon Japan aren't offering international shipping, either. At the very least, its an appealing set for Japanese fans to look forward to.

Physical media with no actual media, the set does look very cool however.
I quite like the odd special or collections edition of a game and considering this isn't either and is just a random box of supplementary game linked things. It's a hard pass from me.
It may well be something others enjoy, but no thanks this doesn't really need a Western release.
Even of I was into collecting this kind of thing, I'm struggling to see where they get a price of $160. Is that an $80 T-shirt?
Those are some ugly items!
I'm impressed...
T-Shirt: 15$
Sticker: 2$
CD: 8$
Keychain: 5$
Leaflets: 5$
Mask: 10$
Card Box: 115$
ROFL
$160 for a shirt and some trash? No thx!
You get a small Japanese man in the box? (picture to bottom left of t-shirt)
Kitsch and trinkets
160$ for an Ugly T-shirt, some useless "goods", and no actual game?
Collectibles lol pass
I WILL be buying the game though.
I’d be interested if there was a physical game in the box, but not without.
There is a preorder at least in Europe of a nice collector's edition for much less, though.
This looks like stuff that probably existed before the box and just are getting packaged together.
That is a lot of worthless overpriced junk considering it doesn't even bring a copy of the game, is dumb... how much are they charging for that mask?! All it has is a tiny logo on the side, the box and the shirt are the only thing cool here and i know T-shirts are ridiculously priced online but this is a bit to much! As for the box, i rather just buy me a Labo instead.
