Developer GungHo Online Entertainment has announced its free-to-play Switch eShop exclusive Ninjala has now accumulated a whopping six million downloads worldwide since it was released on the platform last June.
As usual, it's thanking the community by awarding players with 100 Jala each (that's the in-game currency). Check your inbox before 24th March to obtain this sweet reward.
In addition to this, players can look forward to the Kyary Pamyu Pamyu collaboration, which will return to Ninjala next week, on 28th January.
The second iteration of this collab introduces new in-game music, a stylish t-shirt for your ninja fighter, and items from the first event also return. Below is the most recent developer diary and Season 4 trailer:

I still play this game from time to time, It ended up fixing some issue it had when it realeased.
mmhm they really got their footing as time went one. theyre even exploring other parry options from the rock-paper-scissor we all complained about. its been a fun time for me
@boxyguy
Yup. Despite the negativity and initial bad impressions, the game really has shaped up into an overall more fun experience than Splatoon for me. Splatoon suffers because the teams are often comprised of...less than skilled kids. But in this game it's a free-for-all battle arena so you only have to rely on your own skill.
Couple that with the fact that there are more maps, weapons, and an amazing OST, it's become one of my favorite F2Ps. The devs take their time and listen to feedback so I only hope it continues.
Awesome, Ninjala finally got to 6 Million downloads. I was thinking that 6 Million downloads was going to happen any day now, but I wasn't sure when it was going to happen.
Wait, you guys included Dev Diary #12 and the Season 4 trailer?! 🤯 That's Even More AWESOME.
@Liam_Doolan
THANK YOU SO MUCH for writing this, and for including Dev Diary #12 and the Season 4 trailer. I really appreciate it. 😊
I hope I wasn't being pushy with the Dev Diary #12 news tip I gave you guys. (Or with Ninjala news tips in general). 🤔
@Snatcher
We meet again. LMAO
I didn't realize you were playing Ninjala on a semi-consistent basis, I thought you either stopped playing it or hadn't played it at all. (For some reason). Also, if you don't mind me asking, what were the issues you were having with Ninjala at launch? 🤔
@boxyguy
I feel like they've been listening to feedback from the beginning, but I personally feel that Season 3 was when things really started to become more ramped up for feedback/changes.
Also, when did they mention exploring other parry options? 🤔
I guess I must have missed this in the Dev Diary, whoops.
@JR150
I thought you've been a fan of Ninjala since day one. 🤔
Yeah, I haven't played Splatoon 2 in months. (i.e. a year)
It really has become something special, and I'm saying that as a day one supporter. I also hope that the devs continue listening to our feedback.
EDIT: I'm also really excited about the Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Collab coming back, (even though I had no idea who Kyary Pamyu Pamyu was until the Ninjala Collab). I'm definitely going to get the dance move this time, as I was thinking about it last time, but by the time I went to buy it, it was already gone and I'm not making that mistake again. 🤔
I was going to put this in my initial response, but I forgot to include it. (I guess I got too hyped about the article being written, that I forgot to put it in my response. Whoops).
I keep forgetting to try this game...
Yes I got this game and it didn't exactly grab me and then I deleted it because I had to make room for other games on my switch, but now that I have more storage I might try it out again.
@JR150 yeah the BR options are nice, but like any game ive still had unbalanced matchups pop up. even with the "splatoon" vibe the game still stands on its own
@SM3DASislit oh same, season 3 was a big turning point for me too, sizable content and QOL improvements too. Yeah the feature battles are experimenting with a new parry replacement, they even have a survey on their twitter asking what fans for feedback of it too
@Riderkicker l'm the same way. game is sitting in the home menu and not getting played with. I have no idea why l'm lazy to try it, my guess is because I've been busy with so many other games. But for once l'm going to actually try tomorrow
@OnlyItsMeReid yeah theres a steep learning curve at first and the game doesnt teach you everything, so its not the easiest game to get into. they'll have an updated tutorial coming in march so that could help new players out, even if a bit late
Is this really newsworthy considering that it's a free game?
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has likely cracked 30 million sales by now (that's five times more than this game) and that's a US$60 game.
@Silly_G
The difference is that Mario is MARIO--a name everyone and their great-grandmother knows. Of course it's going to sell.
Ninjala meanwhile is a game from Gungho who isn't known for much outside of Puzzles & Dragons and owning Grasshopper Manufacture (makers of No More Heroes). I'm pleasantly surprised people are still trying it and I say that as a fan of the game.
@SM3DASislit balancing problems, wepons were pretty op and the rock paper S thing was pretty hard.
Downloaded. Played for a week. Gave and up and deleted
Still need to give this a try.
@Silly_G The bigger reason is because of the rocky launch, no one thought the game was going to survive, and an article like this ecourages me to try it again after my bad first impression
I never really liked this game, and I won't go back because I prefer single-player games.
@lilibethchance
Welcome to the Ninjala family.
@Riderkicker, @OnlyItsMeReid, @thehoppypoppy, @AZD1222, @pixelpatch
I would recommend it (or give it another chance), as I have fun with it (Although, I'm one of the only few people on here that seems to enjoy Ninjala). 🤔
@boxyguy
Yeah, Season 3 was pretty big overall. I knew that they experimenting with a new S-Energy "replacement", but I somehow didn't the new parry "replacement". 🤔
@Silly_G
Yes, I would say it is. Like @JR150, and @pixelpatch said, Gung Ho is nowhere near as big as Mario (or Nintendo itself), it's also a new IP from Gung Ho, and since it also had a rocky launch, these factors will make people less likely to come back to it, unless it has significantly improved, which I would say that Ninjala has done that.
@Snatcher
Okay, thanks for letting me know. Those issues make sense, and I would say that they're (mostly) fixed now. 🤔
@SM3DASislit Tried it earlier today. Not bad. I know it gets compared to Splatoon 2, but I see free for all as a nice break from the random teams I've had to deal with there. Plus being a lousy shot isn't as big a handicap in this.
As annoying as the weapon clash thing can be I'll take rock/paper/scissors over the button mashing method you see in fighting & wrestling games.
@Riderkicker
Nice, that's good that you seem to like it. Oddly enough, the Splatoon 2 comparisons are what made me more interested in Ninjala in the first place. Yeah, being independent of a team in Ninjala was kind of refreshing for me as well. 🤔
For some reason, the rock/paper/scissors parry doesn't seem to bug me. Yeah, I can get that, as the rock/paper/scissors parry would be more "sophisticated" than just button mashing. 🤔
EDIT: So, if you don't mind me asking, are you planning to continue playing Ninjala? 🤔
@SM3DASislit For now, yeah. Don't know how active I'll be. Been on a solo gaming kick lately. But for now, it's staying installed.
@Riderkicker
Okay, thanks for letting me know. That makes sense.
If you don't mind me asking, what do you mean by "solo gaming kick"? 🤔
Does that mean you're going through your backlog, or does that mean you're just going through a lot of single-player games at this point, or something completely different? 🤔
That's good that it's staying installed.
EDIT: IIRC, I believe that Ninjala doesn't take up that much space. 🤔
@SM3DASislit Combination of backlog & mostly single-player games.
When I uninstall games it's more about not planning on ever playing it again than saving space.
@Riderkicker
Okay, thanks for letting me know.
Good luck with clearing your backlog. 🤔
Oh okay, that makes sense. 🤔
Huh, thought they reached this milestone earlier, but I'm not liking how the pace of these are slowing down. Hopefully the game doesn't plateau and die.
@TimeVolt
I agree with you completely, I thought Ninjala would have 2-3 more Million players by now. I hope it doesn't plateau and die, either. 🤔
