As we mentioned last time around, Konami's railroad sim Momotaro Dentetsu has been lighting up the Japanese physical charts over the past few weeks, too, so it's no surprise to see it doing well here.
If you're interested in keeping tabs on the top games in Japan, make sure to watch out for our weekly chart updates. We also recently shared our personal top picks for eShop games released last month.
Any surprises in that top 20? Tell us below.

kinda sus that among us is #2
I wish there would be ANYTHING new by Nintendo. A small direct, a new game - anything. I lost all my Nintendo hype over the last year. Worst Nintendo year i remember.
Among Us- Anime Betrayals Edition
Pikmin REPRESENT. I know its bigger in Japan, but still good to see something positive for it
Don't get the appeal of Momotaro Dentetsu, but then again I really don't get the appeal of Among Us. I guess I was just busy those fifteen minutes.
Pikmin 3 Deluxe fights on! Heck yes!
@stinky_t I commented before reading yours. 😛 Glad I’m not the only Pikmin cheerleader here lol
I love that Hollow Knight is doing so well long after release. Even if it was on sale, that's still very impressive.
@JimmySpades
Seeing that the game is Monopoly-like with a focus on publication transportation, I get the impression that Japan's pride in that railway systems plays a part.
Japan seems to have a fondness of trains in general, enough so to make them prominent in games like Animal Crossing, Zelda Spirit Tracks, Pokémon Black and White.
@iDidSomething I have not been really excited about a game since Luigi’s Mansion. Pokémon, Animal Crossing and 51 Games were kinda ok to pick up. No interest in the ports, very marginal inter in Paper Mario bc Color Splash feels relatively recently recent as does Hyrule Warriors.
I get that Nintendo is largely selling to a new audience, but I am thoroughly bored of them now.
@rockodoodle i feel the same way, and often i feel like nintendo's strategy doesn't seem to bother anyone else. like you said: most games are okay. but a lot of newer nintendo games leave me kind of "empty".
at the same time, nintendo is releasing remote-controlled mario karts instead of producing a new spin-off. it just feels soulless.
I really want pikmin 3 deluxe to sell well, even if I didn't buy it. Would buy pikmin 4 if that came out
@iDidSomething it's like they are pretending the 13.5 million people who bought a WiiU don't exist, especially the 8 million who have been playing MK8.
@OnlyItsMeReid I understand there are several reasons not to buy it, but if you haven’t played it already on Wii U, I’d say it’s worth it. Sure there not much hype around it, being a glorified rerelease, but if you can put the outside world aside, everyone else’s opinions, etc, and just make it a personal gaming experience, I think you’d get a lot of satisfaction out of it.
@BlubberWhale Yeah and I think anybody who hasn't already played 100% should, I nearly bought it because I suck at the game so much on wii u and they added in a built in guide
Ugh, every single time I see a picture with dice in it for a Switch article, I keep thinking it's about Fortune street. What happened with that series? Wasn't the last game on PS3 or something? I want a new game and on Switch! T.T
@OnlyItsMeReid Yeah that’s cool. Full disclosure, I’ve barely started it (bought it on Switch), played maybe 2 or 3 hours, but for me, at one point it really felt like it was clicking, like I could see myself becoming comfortable and competent, and it suddenly became clear as to why there is a passionate fan base.
I’m really looking forward to playing, just kinda restructuring my gaming life as part of my New Year’s resolution, which includes only playing 3 at a time max, and finishing before starting/buying more. (Getting back to the backlog.)
So I’m allowing myself 200 dollars for new games this year without restriction, but after that is spent, I have to sell 2 for every new game I buy, while still having to finish 3 to start it. There my come a point where I just have games that I don’t ever intend to sell, but that’s kinda the point. It will motivate to get rid of the games laying around that I don’t need, and disincentivize me from buying new games when I can barely put in the time to enjoy the ones I have.
Sorry, I know you didn’t ask, lol
