To continue Super Mario's 35th-anniversary celebrations, Nintendo's Switch Online battle royale game Tetris 99 is hosting a special Super Mario All-Stars limited-time event this week.
"Now you can tap back into that excitement when the Tetris 99 game on the Nintendo Switch system combines forces with Super Mario All-Stars, the collection that chronicles four timeless 2D adventures, for an all-star MAXIMUS CUP."
Between 3rd December and 7th December, you'll be able to unlock a Super Mario All-Stars game theme. Here's a look:

Cool, although I noticed with the last event they'd gimped the number of points needed to unlock the theme down from 100 to 50. I was actually playing Maximus mode last night and I came second... first place was one of the CPU players!!! 😂

Not played Tetris 99 since Tetris Effect came to Xbox gamepass. Now there's a game that should come to switch.
Will play for this theme though, obviously.

Themes always bring me back to Tetris 99, otherwise I tend to forget about it. Looking forward to this one.
In my opinion, these theme events aren't enough to get me back into playing this game. The game feels unbalanced to me and I think it needs a little bit of fixing.
Somebody in these forms had a great idea for a Pikmin 3 theme where the sound of losing the game is the Pikmin dying sound. 😝
Unlocked it! The game that keeps on giving for me. Never thought I would have 150+ hrs logged on a Switch Tetris game.

@TheFullAndy Keep at it! I didn't get my first win till like almost 6-7 months after it released. Would get close but then just blow it one way or another. As of now I have 21 wins!

Man, I really want that theme. Super Mario All-Stars was the FIRST game I ever played as a kid, to my knowledge, when I was like three years old, so it holds a very special place in my heart. I love how the Tetris blocks look like colored SNES Mario blocks that have been hit. I don't play Tetris 99, though, because I hate not being able to move with the analog. I have one of those early Pro Controllers with the crappy control pad, and playing with the buttons on the left JoyCon sucks. I'm also bogged down with final projects this week before graduating college. But I may still have to work in the time to give this a go, because again, I WANT THAT THEME.
@Juga I take it you're quite a bit older than me, haha. That being said, one of my early childhood memories was playing Activision Classics on the PS1, which had like 30 Atari games, including Pitfall.
It's okay but I would've rather had SMB2 allstars background and music. There is already a Super Mario Bros theme.
Done and done. Looks neat, although I do retain mixed impressions about line clear sparks and fireworks across many of such themes - they can obscure the rest of the landscape for a split second, but sometimes you could really use that split second to plan (and in the top 25 zone, execute) your next hard drop ASAP.

Is it just me, or has the average skill level of the player base gone way up? I used to place first every ten games or so, but best I’ve been able to do now is second! Probably just rusty...

@SwitchVogel I haven't noticed many big changes on that regard. I think it's perhaps the element of luck involved when it comes to matchmaking.
