Today marks yet another exciting occasion in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as a thick layer of snow is starting to cover people's islands for the first time – if you're in the northern hemisphere, at least.
Snow has been lightly trickling down on players' islands for a short while now, but today that snow has started to settle, beautifully decorating the ground, houses, fences, and more. New Horizons has always been pretty, but this new, chilly arrival is inspiring players to share new photographs of their humble abodes.
The snow has arrived as part of the game's big winter update – full details on that here if you missed it. If you haven't checked out your own island yet, take a look at these gorgeous snaps:
Have you woken up to a snowy island today? Will you be redecorating to make the most of the occasion? Let us know in the comments.

What's the difference between a snowman and a snow woman? Snowballs PS loving the look of my island and 14 days to go
"The snow has arrived as part of the game's big winter update"
No it hasn't...
I've been walking around my island cuz it looks so cool covered in snow! ⛄
I have built snowmans long time ago to exploit Ice furnitures DIY by time travelling. 🤟
Since when was snow part of the update? I get that you want to advertise your other article, but the Southern Hemisphere might argue with that...
But snow is very nice, just need to redecorate my island 🌨️
Given how long ago since I last booted up this game, my character's corpse is probably frozen solid right now. I am sure if I return now, I'll probably find my island has become a wasteland.
@MS7000 I thought the same after about a five-month hiatus, but ACNH seems more forgiving compared to previous titles. All my villagers were still there, and the weeds only took about 20 minutes to clean up.
The snowfall is lovely, and now that it's here we can finally catch those dung beetles that'll likely be the last bug for your critterpedia.
Aaaaaand just as I predicted, I knew northern hemisphere would be all over it while I was enjoying making snowpeople alone in June (while ALL MY FRIENDS STOPPED PLAYING).
Meanwhile, don't those summer shells EVER spawn?? I've collected what, 3? Also, I don't have recipes for any summer items so whatever I guess
@dux
For the summer shells, you need to keep collecting other shells to give more shells the chance to spawn.
As for the recipes, all seasonal recipes being fall leaves, winter snowflakes, spring blossoms, and summer shells, are near-exclusively obtained from balloons.
Each balloon has a 15% of giving you a recipe you haven't learned yet, and they spawn every 5 minutes (although sometimes they don't seem to spawn).
@RupeeClock Yeah but shells are so boring, I can't bring myself to collect them all hahahhaha
Summer seasonal recipes are quite lackluster, aren't they? I wish they were more beach and outdoors related instead of mostly being walls and floors for your house.
Anyway, the best seasonal recipes are definitely spring and I could barely get them because my island was in full Halloween recipes mood. I love this game but it can get daunting.
@dux
I think what happened is there were so many summer items that are suitable for island decorating already for sale or readily craftable, and so much overlap with the spring items, that they couldn't really give us much for the summer seasonal recipes.
@RupeeClock my beaches are pretty barren right now, I can think of A LOT of summer items I'd love to see. I still haven't found a big parasol, just small umbrellas that look ridiculous next to a chair. Also food carts, specially for popsicles, more chair options, drink stand with "fruit" cocktails, horizontal surfboard that you can lay on....? Small sunscreen kit, beach bags as decoration... Maybe some small boats and fisherman decoration? Man I really miss going out I can't believe I'll spend my entire summer in house hahahahah (at least I really enjoyed Carnaval this year before the world ended)
if you make snowmans you get ice furniture diys.
I’m in the Southern Hemisphere, so I haven’t experienced this. 😢
Sometimes I wonder if winter in Animal Crossing feels weird for people in places where it doesn't snow.
I admit I am a little bummed that the paths don't have snow on them. But otherwise I like it a lot!
Had to make dedicated grass area for snowboys since my island actually doesn't have much exposed grass left.
Why no snow on the beaches too?
Did they really have to add that tinkling sound to the floating snowflakes (which happen to spawn A LOT)? This is the Easter Balloon Wheezgate all over again.
Otherwise I'm glad this season finally arrived, been looking forward to it since March.
ugh been away for so long on my ACNH....
@karatekid1612 why
Can we have a summer all year mode
