2K has revealed that the upcoming arcade-style brawler WWE 2K Battlegrounds will be launching on Nintendo Switch and other platforms on 18th September.
The game will feature a roster of more than 70 WWE superstars and legends at launch, with additional characters to be added at a later date. When the game was first announced back in April, it was described as a "completely new WWE gaming experience" with "over-the-top Superstar designs, environments and moves".
A new trailer celebrating the release date announcement has also been shared (see above), alongside news that pre-orders should be popping up at select retailers and in digital stores starting from today.

Looking forward to another 'Wha Happun' by Matt Mcmuscles on this one...
This could be good. But we know it'll be swimming with mtx.
Ugh. Why can't the Switch get a good Fire Pro game?
I'm more excited for Retromania Wrestling. This looks ugly.
I'll be eyeing reviews. The visuals are meh, but I'm curious how the gameplay ends up. And if we have any kind of season mode.
Let's see how this turns out....
Please... just let Spike release the current (and EXCELLENT) Fire Pro game on the switch...
Yes. Fire Pro Wrestling Returns is just about my favorite game of all-time. Still have my PS2 memory cards with all my created wrestlers. Switch needs Fire Pro.
This look fun, as long as its not a tecnical disaster on switch I'm definitely interested in this!
I still remember spike talking like they may eventually bring fire pro to switch but that was forever ago. I’d like to see that as well. Retromania has my attention tho, it looks great. This may be ok to.
This looks kinda fun. It’ll depend on the price for me.
@delt75 I Google that every month or so hoping to see the developer announce something.
really want to be excited for this but and the elephant in the room its 2k SO WHAT MONEY GRAB FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF you will be in the game.
Does anyone else feel like this game is a copout by 2K as they could never get the original series right? The annual WWE 2K offerings seemingly got worse each year.
Graphics are meh, features are meh, but if the gameplay delivers I’m in.... though based on the similar moves everyone was doing I have a feeling even that will be limited.
Bring fire pro please. Or maybe AEW can get the old AKI engine for their game.
This looks nice and I just hope the controls will be simple.
Kind of game easy to pick up and play with anyone, if they try to complicate too much then it might not be so fun.
2K can turn that sum b.... sideways and stick it straight up their candy asses...
Why are the faces so lifeless? The lack of expression and the strange body-head proportions make this game extremely unsettling to watch.
When this was first revealed I thought for a moment it would be as close to old school "WCW vs NWO World Tour/Revenge" style gameplay. Now with this trailer my hopes for that are out the window. To be honest I just don't know what this is trying to be. Obviously not a realistic approach but more arcade but with super powers? Animals? Feels like a identity crisis.
Glad to see there's a create-a-wrestler feature, so I can manually add Kenny Omega, Orange Cassidy, SCU, etc.
@Joriss Dislike.
All we want is a WWE No Mercy or Day of Reckoning game on Switch with today's roster and legends, is that so hard to do?
Woohoo. Another boxing game. Yaaaaay.
Looks decent and fun. The womens proportions look weird though. It's like everyone's a midget.
@GrailUK YOOOOOO I don't think I've see Retromania before your comment. I think I'll pre-order it right now. I used to LOVE those style games as a kid. Good call.
Separate note: I think the new WWE game looks dumb, so a hard pass. I wish that Wrestling Revolution would come to the switch. That's been my favorite wrestling game of the past 5 years.
I am looking forward to this, especially if it runs better than the main series on Switch.
I might pick this up if it runs well on the Switch and the character models don't bother me, I like a good laugh. I find it funny how some on here complain about the visuals saying they're meh, it's not made to look super realistic. I just hope it's fun to play and the features work, it's all about the gameplay for me.
@zionich I agree, I picked up 2K18 but was disappointed in its performance on the Switch. It could have been ported better but oh well I still play it here and there lol
If it's good, I'll get it, 2K's games always perform quite well on the Switch. Just need to ignore those silly microtransactions on some of their stuff but by enlarge they perform very well (ignoring the last WWE game as it's development was a nightmare due to license issues at the start then a very tight time frame as a result).
But NBA 2K20 is still the best looking current gen AAA game on the system by far.
I trust them to deliver.
Given how the last few WWE games have been I will wait for reviews first before purchasing this game.
@SoIDecidedTo I know right! It's looks awesome! (and I hate wrestling lol)
@GrailUK I haven't watched WWE except for the wrestlemania Rollins and Orton had their match in 15 years. I used to like TNA before Dixie sold it. Now I don't watch any, but miss the GREAT wrestling games AKI made and THQ produced back in the day. Best controlling sports game I've ever played.
If Retromania has an online mode, find me and we can tag team!
I remember really enjoying the WWE All Stars demo on Xbox 360, hopefully this game is just as good ☺
@SoIDecidedTo I'm in!
I'm still holding out for the AEW wrestling game...
Really hope the Switch version isn’t crap.
I really enjoyed WWE All Stars, and never really enjoyed the 2K Simulator style games. This will probably be day 1 for me
NGL, I way more interested in this than any WWE 2K game. At least this might be fun AND run well on Switch.
Still looks awful enough to scare people away.
