UK chart data is now in for the week ending 4th July, revealing that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has returned to third place and is once again the highest-charting Nintendo title.
The life sim joins several other games exclusive to Nintendo systems in the top ten this week, including Bravely Second: End Layer on 3DS which is still selling well thanks to the retailer sale that kicked off last week. Other 3DS games have also benefitted from the sale, like Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer which has been boosted into 13th spot.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:
Last Week | This Week | Title |
---|---|---|

- | 2 | Marvel's Iron Man VR |
5 | 3 | |

I still can't get a hold of Bravely Second, but I do now have 3 copies of Metroid Prime Federation Force, and duplicates of other games including Smash 3DS and Yokai Watch 1, Fleshy Souls, and Bony Spirits.
Insert joke about sales of MPFF doubling here
(No disrespect to anyone who likes MPFF)
Another strong week for Sony and Nintendo both.
Nintendo have a ridiculous 17 published titles in the top 40. Can imagine MK8 Deluxe was sold out as the only reason it has dropped out of the top 10.
On a side note, I see Microsoft really struggling in future in the UK even going into next gen. The UK is clearly a Nintendo and Sony town now and with the mixed messaging of the Xbox Series X with its stupid naming convention and the fact all first party games will also be available on the older systems I can see it being a bit of a disaster everywhere outside the Americas.
Managed to get myself Yo Kai Watch, Chibi Robo! Ziplash, Code Name S.T.E.A.M and Metroid Prime: Federation Force for just over £10 thanks to the whole Argos clearance thing.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has finally fallen out of the top ten. Quick Nintendo, release Mario Kart 9 now.
Top 2 don't surprise me, if the iron man game wasn't a VR game then I'm pretty sure that would of took top spot.
Nice to see luigis mansion 3 back in there, Nintendo software has really sold well during this quiet period
I was punching the air when I finally found an address Argos would send Bravely Second to. Thought I’d chuck in Paper Mario Sticker Star to make the postage worthwhile. Two days later I’m cursing Argos’s name when I open the package to find they’ve sent me two copies of Sticker Star - and Bravely is no longer available.
@TheFullAndy Rumors suggest that the Digital version of the console, Series S, could cost just $200. While that does mean no Sony exclusives, it would mean super cheap entry for next gen multi plats like COD and FIFA, and Game Pass which many praise as a great deal. Not forgetting the bunch of studios Microsoft brought up to make new exclusive IPs for.
I wouldn't count XBox out just yet. That event at the end of July should be interesting for certain.
@Krull Ouch, you have my sympathies. The struggle is real.
@Angelic_Lapras_King
I am hoping they turn it around I really do as competition is good.
But I also see launching a weak and powerful system at the same time as a potential disaster. This isn't confusing to us gamers but to Joe Bloggs who just got his One S for 100 quid last Christmas and cheap gamepass for 2 years, why would he think of upgrading to a new Xbox when his One S can play Halo 6 already and for "free" on his gamepass.
So by end of 2020 there is the Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X all playing the same first party titles.
Compare that to Sony: Here is the PS5 with a new Spiderman game only available on PS5.
Personally I think Microsoft have royally mucked up.
But I guess we will see.
@TheFullAndy With Xbox, part of the situation is that Microsoft only releases a few games per year for XB1. For example:
2017 - Halo Wars 2, Forza Motorsport 7, Super Lucky's Tale
2018 - Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, Forza Horizon 4
2019 - Crackdown 3, Gears 5, Halo Reach
The effects of Don Mattrick's actions in 2013 still affects Xbox today. Whether that continues into next gen, we'll probably find out on July 23rd.
You see what I mean? Nintendo can make all the games they want, but it will never matter. Sony only needs one game, and everything else it's like it never existed. It already happened the last year with Death Stranding, that game alone overshadowed everything else that was released during the year, and for the most part on forums it was the only game discussed on the web, until The Last of Us Part 2 came out. And now it's happening again with the same The Last of Us Part 2. Face it: nowadays people care more about graphics, cinematic and story in videogames. Gameplay is only second rate for players nowadays, this is why Nintendo or many third party games are not as successful as Sony's games. Times have changes, and not in a good way...
And for the record: I don't hate Sony or its games, I just want people to stop acting like if only Sony can make games nowadays...
@BlackKnight93
Never change you crazy mofo.
Animal Crossing is immortal lol
@Grumblevolcano
Safe to say the effects are still being felt but personally I am not quite the fan of Phil Spencer as others are and I am really not a fan of his approach to the new gen where it has already been stated the first couple of years will not have any first party games exclusive to the Series X. I think that is a disgrace and therefore I see no need in purchasing his "next gen" console.
I will be getting a PS5 day one but Microsoft really have to impress me with their July event but if they are games also available on the One S then frankly I don't care. I imagine many will be on the same boat.
I hope that isn't the case though.
@KoopaTheQuick
Please only talk about Nintendo games mmmkay
@BlackKnight93 That’s why Nintendo has failed the last couple years. None of their games have stories, or deep impact with the player, but at the same time they ARE fun, which is what people want in video games.
@BenAV Or some DLC. Either way, I just want a Story Mode.
@TheFullAndy That's true, but at the same time, what about the non-game pass games and again those annual games? You might want to play the next FIFA or COD but can't justify the £500 that disc version of PS5 will cost, not when for the same cost you could buy an XBox console and a Switch for less, and if you ever upgrade that XBONE, you'll get nicer versions of your games for free, no buying anything version senario (Unless of course, a developer decides that.) especially all those backwards compat games, why wait for Rockstar to Remaster Red Dead Redemption when it's already got an upgrade on XBONE? And with more and more games offering crossplay multiplayer, that will soon be a barrier that no longer exists if you just want to play with your friend who has that shiny new COD on PS5 but you can only afford an XBox.
And not to knock Sony's exclusives, there are many that people enjoy, but I just hope that fanbase does not get too toxic like it did for The Last of Us 2 and with Sony declaring it's looking into more shorter games than giant blockbusters, I just hope that doesn't have a domino effect where either fans get angry at a game for not doing something to perfect or people class you "not a gamer" if you've not played the newest God of War or whatever.
Next gen will be interesting for sure, I just don't think yet we're at a point where "Sony wins hands down" just yet, not with all those factors to consider.
Glad to see GTAV holding up after almost 7 years lol
@Angelic_Lapras_King
I am going to go ahead and say Sony will walk next gen actually.
The Xbox brand outside of the Americas and UK just isn't that big. I mean the Switch has already outsold the Xbox One family of systems in less than half the time.
Regarding exclusives, Sony and Nintendo trump Microsofts exclusives by some distance both in quantity and quality. The issues regarding toxicity of Last of Us 2 (which only came from one side -those who havent played it) is not relevant and that game also still sold 4 million in 3 days.
Also the Xbox smart delivery system is only guaranteed for first party games not third party games. And we have seen that third party games that will be using smart delivery will also be doing similar on PS5, only difference is Sony doesn't have to make a big deal out of it because they have actual first party PS5 exlusives available for day one unlike Microsoft and Series X.
Make no bones about it Sony will destroy Microsoft next gen regarldess of the price of the consoles.
Edit: Also I am pretty sure this story about shorter games generated from comments from a ex Sony exec so dont confim anything about a different approach. If anything the sales success of Last of Us 2 would confirm to continue as they have done.
Bravely Second has sold over 22,000 copies over the last 2 weeks in the UK. It's UK lifetime sales have surpassed 35,000 copies.
@TheFullAndy Microsoft negated the concept of exclusives when they decided to put lots of XB1 games on PC. You can kind of think of XB1 and Series X during the crossgen period like PC settings:
OG XB1 and XB1S = low (Halo Infinite probably won't run well on those systems for example)
XB1X and the rumoured Series S = medium
Series X = high
Then when XB1 stops being supported it would be like your PC is out of date.
@Grumblevolcano
That is why they will fail. Consoles are not PCs and operate a different business model that has worked for, well, generations.
Sony still believe in generations as do Nintendo and that is why both their consoles will outlive Microsoft's consoles.
I can actually see Microsoft going completely third party by the end of next gen.
@BlackKnight93
I don't think it's just nowadays. Back in the day I played Tomb Raider on PSX and it had such crappy controls, that I had to quit playing after 10 minutes. Still this game has a 91 on metacritic.com.
I don't get how. 🤷♂️
I wouldn’t write off the Xbox Series X yet. Microsoft has bought some really interesting studios, and is showing that it’s going to take the first-party (or second-party) software USP seriously. Sony will most likely sell the most units again - when it has it not? - but there’s a chance for Microsoft to feel like a genuine contender again. And competition is good for all consumers, regardless of your preference.
@Krull
I want Microsoft to be competitive as competition is good, I just think they have mucked up with their approach to next gen and again will start on the back foot and may not be able to recover at all this time.
I hope they impress in their July event.
Nintendo is known for more unique experiences, and Ring Fit Adventure fits that bill. Received mine recently and it's fantastic - especially in this current climate. Not going to lie though, it did kick my behind. I'm so impressed with it and how well it is thought out for just a ring..
how the hell is Luigis Mansion 3 still getting back into the top 10 charts 8 months later?
What’s up with bravely second? Lol
@TheFullAndy And just as we discuss this, it's now reported that XBox is interested in acquiring Rocksteady Studios and WB Games. That would be a healthy dose of possible exclusives especially if they can licence future Batman games as exclusives to counter the Sony Spiderman franchise.
@Angelic_Lapras_King
I also remember when they bought Rare......
@BlackKnight93
Why don't you play some Nintendo games and stop lamenting nonsense ?
Grab your Nintendo games and have fun with it !
