Update: And the news is finally here! The launch date for the Expansion's first part, The Isle of Armor, has been announced, alongside the reveal of Galarian Slowbro.
Tomorrow is set to bring new information on Pokémon Sword and Shield's upcoming Expansion Pass, The Pokémon Company has revealed.
The news comes from the company's official Japanese social media accounts, where it has been announced that new details will be shared at 10pm JST (so that's 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm BST / 3pm CEST).
Naturally, we won't know exactly what will be revealed until that time comes, but it'll be nice to hopefully hear more about what we can expect to enjoy when the new content arrives this summer.
We've compiled everything we know about the Expansion Pass so far right here, so feel free to read up on everything that has already been announced. We'll make sure to share any news that comes our way tomorrow with you right here at Nintendo Life, so make sure to check back with us then.

A little part of me wishes that they announce some kind of complete edition with the expansion pass on the cartridge.
Sword and shield update news coming tomorrow, same days as PokemonGo is down for maintenance.......
Taking a guess at Gigantamax Melmetal on its way.
An early drop in the DLC would be nice. But I'm in no rush. I'm still ticking away at finishing up my 3rd (and hopefully final) museum location in New Horizons. Plus I got other games I can probably finish up or make a dent in
Early drop maybe?
@Zuljaras : At this point, that is the only way that I will be buying these.
I didn't buy both Sword/Shield to pay for two ridiculously over-priced DLC packs on top of that! They cost almost as much as what I had paid for the standalone DS games back in the day, and they were complete games in physical format.
If expansions/DLC/subscription is where Game Freak wishes to take the franchise going forward, then I can no longer consider myself a Pokémon devotee.
I couldn't even bring myself to play Sword/Shield since the announcement of the DLC as it almost instantly killed 20+ years of goodwill. Not even EA lost my business that quickly when they royally screwed up The Sims franchise to the point of no return.
@Zuljaras I bet a complete Edition will come some time after the release of the crown tundra which will cost 60$ instead of 90$ (60$ game + 30$ dlc) to get a few more people to buy these games who said that these are to expensive
@Silly_G Same here. The first mainline Pokemon game that I did not buy
@mariomaster96 I really hope you are right!
@mariomaster96 this will not happen, the expansion pass will never be free and Pokemon Sw/Sh wont be on sale in 2020 that's for sure, they just came out 6-7 months ago
Can’t wait for this DLC. It looks amazing. Anymore news is welcomed.
I enjoyed Shield and am looking forward to this dlc. Mario Kart 8 Wii U, Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, I haven’t been disappointed in Nintendo dlc yet.
@glorymade where did I say that swsh will get on sale in 2020?
I said "some time after the release of the second dlc" which could also be 2021 or 2022
the only thing that could make this unlikely is the fact that next year most likely will release a new game and GF doesn't want to release 2 pokemon games in one year, but on the other side swsh will have already sold 20+ mio copies so that probably wouln't be a problem, since that 20+ mio people will be looking forward to the new game whereas other people who don't want to spent to much money will be swsh+dlc
@Silly_G I totally get it. You'd rather they do what they've always done in the past. So you'd rather have this extra content as part of a fully priced third game/sequel. Your DLC is now $60 instead of $30, and your feelings of betrayal can be wiped away!
Seriously. Pokemon Yellow was an expansion. Crystal was an expansion. Pokemon Emerald, Platinum, B2W2, and USUM, all expansions sold at full price. This DLC being $30 instead of a full game is a step in the correct direction from Game Freak. Don't let dumb internet outrage cloud your vision.
@Silly_G The only thing ridiculous there is buying both Sword AND Shield and then buying the expansion for both. No one is expected to do that, that's your choice. In reality it's much cheaper to buy one of them and the DLC than it would be to buy Pokemon Sun and then Pokemon Ultra Sun for the extra content for example. This is a step forward in their practices
@glorymade : It's US$30, genius. Double that if you want the DLC for both Sword and Shield. I suggest you go back to school and brush up on your mathematics, tyke.
@Zuljaras
I initially thought TPC/Nintendo would do that, but Covid-19 may prevent that from happening, at least for this year.
Hope the news tomorrow is a firm release date. I'm almost 80 hrs in and finished the main story so looking forward to the new content
@Bret : DLC is locked to a single NNID which can hinder certain functionality (such as local trading). Also, when the servers are terminated, that's it. Kaput. Every other main series Pokémon game before it is still fully playable on their original hardware. The DLC is also $60 if one were to buy both passes, and that only affords one a tiny fraction of the content of a full game.
I would rather pay upfront for a complete package than indulge a future in which Pokémon games are released in an incomplete state with an indefinite number of expansion packs to supplement the lack of content, essentially rendering the physical package useless. I get that people dislike the practice of updated/third versions and the like, but nobody's forcing anybody to buy them. Hell, one could sell their old game and put that towards the updated version. With DLC, you can't sell if off if you dislike it or are otherwise done with it.
Perhaps the most egregious thing about Sword/Shield is that they contain less content than the 3DS games in spite of their $20 premium. During the 3DS era, a full Pokémon game would cost one US$40 (AU$60). Now, even US$90 (base game + DLC, which is more expensive than buying two Pokémon games on 3DS) won't get you that because the adoring masses are now all too willing to pay for withheld content.
@Silly_G My point is that everyone loved the updated/third versions and they are some of the most beloved titles in the entire franchise. And now we're getting the content that in the past would have been in an updated/third version as a half price DLC instead of a full price game. The NNID/servers point is valid though.
@Bret : And I don't begrudge people of being able to pay for that content in the form of DLC, but I would rather pay that wee bit more for a complete physical release (the DLC is pretty damn expensive as it is at AU$45, which is close to what I was paying for the physical DS games back in the day, and they contained a hell of a lot more content than the Sword/Shield DLC will).
I also really enjoy replaying Pokémon games, but I can never bring myself to wipe my save data, so the third/alternate versions/sequels allow me to experience them all over again (and with some new features to make the experience feel fresh). Again, if people don't want to pay full-price for a revised edition, they could have just sold/traded in their copy of the earlier version.
Your move, Pokémon Company.
Okay, we'll see what happens. I may buy Pokemon Sword once I complete two of my courses for work (that's the excuse, anyway). We'll see, but it's also possible I just end up waiting until Gen 9 to get the next Pokemon game.
Would be nice to see more Pokemon returning in the next details.
Can’t wait, it looks great! I’d love if the online matchmaking system gets a bit of a tweak with this release, was really the only major flaw I found with an otherwise fun game.
@Silly_G I'm not saying there aren't any issues with how Game Freak and The Pokémon Company has handled this generation. And they really need (from here on out) be a little bit more upfront with their intentions or just don't say anything at all.
I guess I'm not getting your specific argument about the DLC pricing. It's $30 for two expansions, which I think inherently would be fine. But I understand the optics of this particular circumstances.
Are you also arguing that it's an issue if you are buying both copies of the game? Because I'm with @DrJoson that I never understood buying both versions of the game when it's practically the same game with minor differences. That's a you problem then (not you in general) if DLC later requires you buying two separate packs for each game.
I do agree with that in principle, this is a better direction than releasing a third game. And as has been pointed out, some of the third games are beloved. However, I do agree @Silly_G that in the context of stuff being left out of the main game (mainly Pokémon themselves) and with the lack of content in comparison to past games, the frustration is understandable and doesn't exist in a vacuum. I was finishing up Ultra Sun while in the midst of beginning Pokémon Shield. And it was clear the content was lacking and the game was rushed
Yeah just spoil everything so no one has to play it.
Finally, it was time! I don't know what will be announced, but some things could be certain.
Isle of Armor may still be released this month, probably on the 26th. The Crown Tundra will probably be delayed to Winter this year, however.
Slowbro.
Tomorrow determines whether I buy these games or not, I do have a lot to go through atm so missing out on these two titles is a no big deal for me.
@Fido007 dude you had a year, i have 150 hours in the game. your loss the game is amazing dont let the internet convince you. if you are relying on internet clout to make a decision i feel bad for you. You either play or dont.
@NintendoPok No, my favorite is scyther/scizor... if they release him in the dlc, I'll bite. If not then I'll wait for Gen 4 remakes.
The most important thing we need is a release date. It's supposed to be this month and we still don't have a date.
@Fido007 siczor is in it 200 pokemon ON TOP of 400 in the game and another 175 in dec that not enough for you?
@DrJoson Only 80 hours pfft? I'm past 500! Pump up your numbers kid lol
@NintendoPok Calm down with amazing, it's by far the easiest and laziest poke game yet. My average time for becoming champ is a month, in SWSH I did it in under 2 days plus the game is riddled with hackers doing raids
@Fido007 scyther is back better bite bud
@Sun-WuGoku AHAHAHAHAH try taking down a 5 star by yourself
