Yet another physical version of Streets of Rage 4 has been revealed, suddenly making its limited run not quite so limited.
Yes, after initially being treated to a retail edition from Limited Run Games, Switch's shiny new fighter is going physical once again, this time thanks to Signature Edition Games. It's set for a July 24th release and will be available both as a standard release, and as part of the company's super-fancy Signature Edition range.
The standard retail version of Streets of Rage 4 will be available on Switch for $39.99 / €39.99 / £34.99, and includes the game, a reversible cover with alternative artwork, an artbook, and a keyring featuring the game's iconic logo. The Signature Edition version will cost $59.99 / €59.99 / £49.99 and comes with the following:
- Five limited edition enamel pins featuring Cherry Hunter, Blaze Fielding, Axel Stone, Adam Hunter and Floyd Iraia
- Numbered collector’s certificate, printed with the developers' signatures.
- Axel Stone's blue bandana complete with Streets of Rage 4 logo
- Outer sleeve featuring alternative artwork.
Pre-orders for both editions are open as we speak. So what are you waiting for?

This may actually be the third physical release the game is getting.
Streets of Rage 4 is getting published in Japan by 3goo under its Japanese title, Bare Knuckle IV. It's a multi-language release which includes an original soundtrack CD and double-sided A2 poster.

Since these European and Japanese region releases weren't really heard of until now, it makes me wonder if Limited Run have some sort of deal with the developers and they'll do a US region physical publication for their game, but it has to come before any announcements for other regions?
This is something I noticed for the physical release of River City Girls too.
Just came here to say,
What A Game!
What the... I ordered the special edition of the game just hours before this on Limited Run Games.
Makes no sense to have the game available there and here but whatever. I already paid for it.
Limited run cartridges truly became the vinyl of video games. And it's pretty good.
I paid $189.99 for the collector's edition with the statue and the metal cartridge. I mean I was very lucky to get this one on pre order but surely the standard and classic editions of the limited runs pre orders are useless now as it's going to be physical everywhere it looks like.
@OorWullie It's great isn't it? Spent a lot of time laughing when it descends into chaos on screen.
@OorWullie did u try out the retro skins? are they badass?
I've looked on the site and the signature edition it looks alright to be fair and if your one of the first 500 to order the game you get a streets of rage 4 special coin too. I couldn't resist. So I now have both the signature £53.99 ( including shipping ) version and the limited run version $189.99 ( including shipping ) coming.... At least I won't be waiting over a year with the UK release one to play it I guess.
I hope it gets a retail release after the pandemic is over, because Limited Releases are really cool and awesome to see, but it's much easier to get a game whenever you want physically instead of needing to pre-order it in a certain time frame. I do hope one day I can get an online only release, but not now
I am loving this game, can’t believe it went onto Game Pass PC day 1. It’s so much fun me and my brother huddled round my laptop pummelling bad guys with the speakers blasting.
Too expensive as always.
Switch more expensive than XBOX/PS too.
Can never justify these exorbitant prices.
Easily the best Streets of Rage ever made, outclassing even the gold standard in SOR2.
I'm confused. Is this physical retail version going to be available in all regular game stores? Or only via (pre-)order through their website?
Wow! I just ordered the standard edition of Streets of Rage 4 for Switch and PS4 from Limited Run last night. Damn I should have waited, this edition will most likely arrive before the LRG games even ship SMH.
@WiltonRoots Yep, it's superb and unlike most other beat em ups, it never really feels repetitive as there's a lot of variety between the moves, enemies and weapons and the stages are a real highlight for me. Love the one in the cop station, replayed it lots of times trying to improve my rank. I'm up to stage 7 now playing on normal difficulty. It's pretty challenging.
@DarkLloyd I've only unlocked one of the retro skins so far, SoR 1 Axel. He has all the moves from the original and they've absolutely nailed the feel of the character. I played a couple of stages with him last night and yep, it was badass. Do you know about the retro filter? It gives the graphics a pixelated look and it looks incredible. Retro Axel blends in really well. I prefer it to the modern style. Especially with the retro soundtrack pumping in the background.
I’m having a hard time understanding this. Is this a PEGI/European release? Is it limited only, or can we buy it at store when it releases?
I’m going to pre-order a standard edition. My question is - who should I use now? Is there any difference? The cover looks better at signature games
@OorWullie nah i only knew about the retro skin characters. the other stuff is new to me, can't wait.
WT actual F!!! Already pre-ordered from LRG. If I could cancel so I can buy from Signature Edition instead I would. LRG don't allow cancellations. I'm RAGING right now!! Not even a whole roast chicken can calm my rage at this moment in time (and I love chicken too). Now where's my tight blue jeans, white t-shirt, red mits & headband... I'm off to kick some ass.
They haven't been clear and for now one could think that the only way to get these releases is through them. I don't think so, but we'll have to wait.
Anyway, if the Signature Edition ends up being too expensive (I've seen two different price tags, 59.99 and 69.99), what I really want is the game plus the OST, so I'd go for the Japanese release in that case. The other goodies are things I'll never use. My days of getting overpriced collector's editions are gone.
Just get this digitally. It’s double the price if you want it physical. It’s £38.49 with shipping.
Just a note from another Nintendo-related news site, apparently this announcement could not be made because of LRG and their deal that apparently made it impossible for these guys to announce this release before LRG could get their pre-orders in.
This is something I'd really hope some game journalists could look into. LRG is having a really unfair position in the limited physical release market if they can pull off stuff like that. I wouldn't be surprised if many people pre-ordered LRG's version of this game thinking it was going to be the only physical release available based on all the coverage before the release date.
Hmmmmm very tempting.
I've never been a fan of Signature Edition releases.
I'm content with my LRG standard edition.
@Tuulenpoika can you link us to that article?
@NoNoseNosferatu

@Tuulenpoika Agree 100%. I'd also lay a lot of the blame on the developers/publisher, who thought it'd be a good idea to make a game like this a limited release. Are they actually so stupid to think that SOR wouldn't sell in traditional retail or even Amazon?
Dang it...and I just ordered the standard Limited Run edition yesterday...would've gone with this instead, as I like the cover better. I really hate all this "limited" crap...
Oh well, next time I'll wait for the very last minute, I guess...
@TimboSlice it’s 5 dollars extra, and it’s due to cartridge costs. Stop acting like they are just trying to rip people off by charging more for switch titles.
@Magician the limited run edition will probably end up being cheaper later and all it had was a metal case. I missed so original limited release so the signature edition has more bang for the buck. Also I’ll probably end up getting the limited run special edition off eBay later in the fall when the hype does down like I did with night trap and a few other titles I originally missed out on.
There is a problem with those wanting to cancel LRG especially if you go the LE version would you want to cancel your order for that reason only? I bought the Merge game for collection purpose only I doubt I will open it.
@Strictlystyles don't feed those Trolls whom whine about the price because they didn't get to buy it. As for LE becoming less that won't happen as there was so limited made it would cost more then the standard on ebay.
@Strictlystyles ummm. It’s $48 CAN plus $23 shipping: $71.
I can buy it now on eShop for $31.50
A little more than a $5 difference.
@baller98
Thank you! I just contacted Limited Run about cancelling and will pre-order the standard edition from Signature instead. I live in Europe, so not only does it end up being slightly cheaper than LR's, but I also get a cover I like better, a mini-artbook and a keychain...not to mention an earlier release, as I highly doubt LR's is gonna ship in June or July...
@SwitchForce I'm sure if you wanted to upgrade your order you could contact LRG and they could probably help you out. Why would they turn down to getting more money? And if the preorder window is still open they aren't out any money if someone changes their mind either. They just don't want legit orders to be cancelled whenever as they then are stuck with excess stock that they don't know what to do with. Because if they just allowed people to order and cancel whenever they like then when it comes to manufacturing they could end up being stiffed. I respect LRG and hope they do eventually re-open for extra prints of popular titles in the future.
@SwitchForce if you keep your eye to the streets there’s always a deal. They get scooped up quick but they always show up
@TimboSlice the difference between switch price and other systems is 5 bucks. Shipping is unavoidable so they’re not ripping you on that, you just live in Canada.
@Strictlystyles A normal retail release will never cost you shipping at most stores.
I’m pointing out that these special releases cost way too much, that’s all.
@Tuulenpoika thank you.
@TimboSlice but your complaining about international shipping directly from a small vendor, a.k.a not a large retailer. That’s not a valid complaint.now if they were shipping from Canada and charged an arm and a leg, THAT would be a ripoff
You peeps have fun with your video game branded key-chains and power of the force r2d2 coins. I’ll be over here playing a game I paid roughly twenty five bucks for.
In case you guys didnt know, a few of Limited Run's games actually end up for retail sale @ BestBuy. Not all of them but a select few. Perhaps SOR4 will get a BestBuy release later this year as well
who should I blame for this???
LGR? or MergeGames?
@robr good luck with your game 20 years later. (if you bought it on the switch, 5)
@Wexter not sure where your getting your information but LRG LE are gone and how are you going to upgrade your order? That makes no common sense here what your talking about. You cancel your LRG LE and it's gone no more getting it back. Did you read what they wrote on their site - I guess not but you don't understand do you if you cancel your LRG LE it's gone you can't reverse that request. If you read more carefully - missed what I was referring to.
@SwitchForce Not what I meant at all. I was writing that in a scenario where you wanted to upgrade in a normal situation as they were still in stock of a higher level edition I doubt they'd say no (provided its the pre-order period and the edition you want is in stock). Or if during the pre-order period you changed your mind on a PS4 version and wanted a Switch version. Since the pre-order period is still open they can change the order. They have Tweeted as much themselves on the topic. They just don't want people canceling during manufacturing as then they're stiffed on the bill unless something crazy happened (act of God disaster).
I was not referring to Streets of Rage 4 itself (yeah they are out of the special edition so that won't work). Just in most situation you'd just need to contact them.
if you want I can pull each and every tweet I found on this topic? Or the cases of people on Redit claiming that is exactly what customer service did? I can if you want as it just takes a quick Google search to find the exact scenarios I'm referring to.
EDIT: I was stating also in wishful thinking that in the future if they can do reprints of the best sellers would be nice for the people who missed out. Granted that is between them and the developer as they would need to negotiate new contracts. As their contracts are only for the one time print. But, businesses change and the devs themselves are always free to do their own prints in the future. Just a hope not a set in stone proclamation!
@baller98 did that but I also read that they can refuse to cancel any cancelations... so I have my doubts.
(I live in the EU so that US version might mean I pay almost twice IF I will be unlucky)
@arty77
Ain’t that the truth. I’ll be thankful if my digital library even hits the 5 year mark. 😂
@robr if you are ok with that low standard, I am fine
enjoy your (time) limited edition while you can
I bet EDGE gives it an 8.
If this collaboration remake Revenge of Shinobi with Koshiro San back on music duties, I'll literally pay ***** silly money for it!
In fact, simply refresh the whole SoR series and the Shinobi ip as well!
And for the love of Jesus, Allah and the other one with all the arms! A Sega Rally package is LONG overdue for the switch! Arcade 1994 championship original, saturn version, and a modernised version of the classic, again would get my wallet open quicker than the McCann's vacating Portugal.
@TimboSlice yes they can. It's the switch. It is a more highly sought game there. Nintendo will always be a better quality.
@arty77 the switch cartridge will actually last longer than any disk.
@Dirty0814 the guy bought digital....
(btw I have my doubts regarding modern flash memory... this is not the snes cart anymore vs. all my 20-25 years old cds are fine. pressed or cdr...)
Flash cartridges are fine. Just like a CD just take care of it. CDs are more prone to damage than flash cartridges. Also modern flash memory is better than in the 80s and 90s which remind you millions of games are still running around perfectly fine.
