A brand new Wild Area event in Pokémon Sword and Shield has begun and this time, players have the chance to catch creatures usually exclusive to the opposite version of the game.
Running until March 25th at 23:59 UTC, the 'Pokédex Completion Event' sees these usually-unobtainable Pokémon appearing in Max Raid Battles. Some previous Shield Version exclusive Pokémon like Galarian Ponyta and Galarian Corsola can currently be found in Pokémon Sword, while Sword exclusives like Galarian Farfetch'd and Galarian Darumaka are currently available in Pokémon Shield.
Serebii has already provided a full database of all Pokémon appearing in the new event.
These Max Raid Battles are also introducing a new selection of rare rewards, including some highly sought after fossils. If your Pokédex is still missing a few entries, now might well be a good time to jump back in and carry on catching em' all.
Are you hunting down those last few 'mon? Will you be diving back into Galar this week to see what's new? Let us know with a comment.

So i can hunt for Galar Ponyta during the event ? (Mine is Sword)
@DreamerDC you really think that many players have two switches (and both versions)?
Luckily my brother also plays pokemon and always picks the other version, so completing the dex isnt a problem for me
That would be the first smart thing they did with this stupid strong record breaking game...
About time since many just bought one or the other to save money, but still enjoy and support the new take of the franchise. I must say for all the hate machine that the Net gave this game pre-launch, the Wild is something I hope is cannon for forthcoming games...nice to be able to have a sense of 3D movement to open up the world.
This is a rather nice little benefit for people with no friend AND not enough money to waste.
I have one of those "friends" we sometimes hear about.
@muscpt I Wish next time they make a REAL professional open area .... they could learn from the pros with world making... Monolith soft.
The thing they came up with is mediocre and uninspired at best. I’ve never seen such a dull “open area” if you can call it that.
I’m more interested in the fossils, tbh. Thanks to my nephew, I have the exclusives except Zamazenta.
Got shiny Sirfetch’d and Morgrem from these raids today 🤩
@DreamerDC well but i guess there is a big difference in numbers between people on (i assume) the pokemon subreddit and most people who have bought SWSH in general
(since u wrote "I did what most players did...")
Ok, that's something I'm interested in !
Guess I'm back to Galar, then !
This is great, really looking forward to getting a farfetch’d that’s not called DUX!
Are these types of events online only? I usually play offline and I'm always confused when I read these headlines if these changes will work offline.
manage to catch myself a rapidash an that vulture from a 5 star den.
@veesonic I think you have to be online to get the update, and then pokemon appear offline.
Is Gigantamax Gengar still available to catch? Playing Sword btw
Shows more reason why they didn't need two version of the same game.
I like this! I’ve traded quite a few with my kids to try and fill our Dex but there’s some they just have come across. Will be nice to have an opportunity to catch a few myself.
@veesonic you connect and download the update in-game, then they're available when you're offline
@JesWood13 Yes, along with Machamp and Snorlax, all three in both games. Their event is running alongside this one.
@DaCh33f @Plexagon Awesome, thanks guys!
So, I've found that it looks like the Pokemon encountered as part of this event are guaranteed to have their hidden abilities. I've found G-Darumaka with Inner Focus, Indeedee with Psychic Surge, Mandibuzz with Weak Armor, Braviary with Defiant, Passimian with Defiant, and Sirfetch'd with Scrappy.
All of my trading, my bartering, and my swapping......
They really just f****d me over.
Hah, and I just finished my Pokédex, with my GF’s help. We had to do this before Animal Crossing.
