At the time of writing, the Kickstarter campaign for a remastered version of The Wonderful 101 has now been backed by more than 12,000 people. Platinum has already followed this up by taking to Twitter and thanking everyone for the tremendous amount of support.
Now that the stretch goals for all platforms have been reached, Platinum has launched a few more. The first is a "Time Attack" mode which will be unlocked at the $1 million mark, and a brand new side-scrolling adventure titled "Luka's First Mission" – starring the young hero – will also be given the greenlight if the campaign hits $1.5 million. Take a look below:
Although the remaster will receive additional modes, during an interview at the Tokyo Game Show last September, director Hideki Kamiya apparently said there wouldn't be any new heroes or gameplay content. Here's how Polygon explained it:
While there won’t be new heroes or gameplay content, Kamiya said that Platinum wants to add new modes to The Wonderful 101: Remastered. The addition of new modes is dependent on the game’s stretch goals.
Have you backed the remastered version of The Wonderful 101 yet? What do you think of these stretch goals? Tell us below.

Sadly too broke to back this, although I want to. Not to mention Feb is filled with at least 5 games I want, then March has AC which I need 2x (wife and I each want a personal copy for our switches)
I'm just happy that so many people want this game to happen. It's awesome seeing all of the support.
Good for them. I do understand why they did this... it wasn’t a smash hit, more a cult classic, so they needed to see if there was enough demand for it. Clearly there is! Huzzah for those that are interested in it.
@Kalmaro I feel the same, with all the praise the Wii U version got, I’m glad it’s not only getting a rerelease, but also getting a wider audience.
Like a lot of other people, I never bothered to get a Wii U back during it's time, so this game flew completely under my radar during it's original release. I'm glad to see this its getting a second chance at life on Nintendo Switch. I will definitely pick up Wonderful 101 when it releases.
I personally hate time attacks in any video game, but I understand their inclusion. The other one seems interesting, I hope they don't go too overboard with the stretch goals though. Yooka-Laylee ended up watering down parts of the main game in order to fit the stretch goals in.
If they hit that 1.5 mark I might actually get this.
If you'll notice there's space for 1 final stretch goal. I wonder if they really have 1 more "Hypothetical" stretch goal in mind if the game surpasses 1.5 million.
So, Xbox version wasn't the $1 million, eh? Weird.
@KingBowser86 I wonder if there's still some animosity about Scalebound lol. More than likely they just feel that Xbox wouldn't be profitable for the game.
I backed it for the physical copy. Here’s hoping for an English case. Happy to help them reach their goal in exchange for hours of fun at a great game
@AnnoyingFrenzy Granted, Microsoft (or at least Xbox) isn't nearly as big of a deal in Japan as it is here.
So is nobody gonna talk about if you pledge $100 you get personally chosen to be blocked by Kamiya's twitter? This man his hilarious
It says the game is set to release in April, is that just the Switch version? Or will all 3 be available in April?
I'm debating internally between the $36 tier and the $102 tier (I want the shirt)
I hope they fix a few QOL items (90+ minutes between save points and the inability to replay specific missions when score chasing). As the Switch functions as a portable, some quickplay modes would also be good.
It's a GREAT game. Making it slightly more accessible with a few TINY fixes would be welcomed.
@AnnoyingFrenzy This one shouldn't be at risk of being watered down since the main game already exists.
@Deliesh True, but if they keep adding stretch goals then those other stretch goals may get watered down. Just don't want them to get in over their heads you know? They've got a good thing going for them, don't want to ruin it by being too ambitious.
Hopefully reviving ScaleBound is next up.
“ Platinum's already followed this up by taking to Twitter and thanking everyone for the tremendous amount of support.”
Too bad some of the backers won’t be able to see that after being blocked, LOL.
Waiting for my pay before deciding how much I want to pledge. I'm set on getting the physical copy, but I've always wanted Hideki Kamiya to block me on Twitter...
Unfortunately, I can’t say I am interested in this game, but I really got to hand it to them for managing to raise this much money so quickly. Heck, I think they’ll easily raise at least a few million by the time this campaign is over, it hasn’t even been 24 hours yet and they have already surpassed their main set of goals and are well on their way to beating these 2 as well.
One of my favorite games ever. But it’s a shame Nintendo gave the IP back.... Wonder Red is Smash DLC material :/
Never played it on wii u, but I heard good things. Will get this on PC for sure!
Seems likely they will reach both, considering the current tempo. ^^
@fafonio don't know what you're worried about, he can clearly still get in.
I find it strange that a developer as big as PlatinumGames need Kickstarter funds to release their games.
I backed it immediately. I never got to play it on Wii U, but from what I've seen (and briefly tried on a friend's Wii U), it's a fun game that deserves to be given a chance.
@Sinton They don't, but they do need kickstarter funds to avoid taking potential losses on porting the games incase they fail on their target porting platforms.
Also, what better way to gauge interest in the title, than by doing a kickstarter?
If the kickstarter fails, you've lost nothing.
If it succeeds, you've funded your game based on who wants to buy it NOW.
It's a win/win for Platinum.
@Blizzia I get that it’s a win/win for Platinum, getting paid for the games in advance of producing them.
@Sinton But also in terms of not needing to put money on the table for porting.
Now, the game could fail spectacularly on PS4 and Steam for all they care, they've made sure they lost no money on those platforms.
@AnnoyingFrenzy it may also be to do with motion controls if they're going to try and keep them included in some capacity?
This is the first time i habve ever witnessed a kickstarter pledge amount going up in real time.
I watched a video of it to see what this is since I skipped it on the Wii U... is this like Superheroes mashed with Pikmin?
@Sinton
They might not NEED it, but it's a much bigger gamble if they don't do a crowdfunding campaign. Remember, Platinum doesn't usually self-publish, but mostly rely on the heavy lifters in Japan for production, marketing, and distribution.
This way, aside from raising the money for Steam and PS4 versions, they find out how many people even want them. It's marketing and fundraising all-in-one when it works.
I backed The Wonderful 101 years ago.
@MrBlacky You should change your name to MrBacky.
Wow, an extra 500k for a side scroller extra? I hope no one is adding any extra for that. If it's just for getting a copy for 50 dollars that's fair, though.
While nor backed yet, I think I ultimately will pull the trigger as their are no risks involved porting. Heck I even guess with the timeframe they are likely just optimizing things.
For those fretting about extra add ins, I guess these will happen as added DLC, so there won't be any risk in pulling the trigger for the base game.
@fafonio At least they returned the IP and not hogging in it, letting it be dormant with Platinum not able to touch it. This Kickstarter would not be possible if Nintendo kept the IP, nd given the still good working relationship, Nintnedo might be returning to the Wonderful 101 world. Though my first guess is finishing up Bayonetta 3 and Astral Chain 2.
@Lemmy_the_Koopa What I’m loving about this is that I’m 100% sure Platinum will want to work on a sequel after this Kickstarter.
It’s been 7 long years for me waiting for a W102
It would not surprise me if they did a Wonderful 101 Spirit Event in Smash and/or Mii Fighter Costumes in the next Smash Direct.
@Torakaka If we could get Wonder Red (Brawler) Wonder Green (Gunner) and Wonder Blue (Swordsman) I'd be incredibly happy. It probably won't happen, but a pack of those three plus some more songs (At least The Won-Stoppable 100, but Intertwined or Tables Turn could be good.) would be simply wonderful.
Spirit event seems more likely though since there's 9+ major characters without spirits.
