Over the past eight months, Beenox has released multiple seasonal updates for its popular racing title Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled – adding new characters, karts, and courses. In its latest blog update on the Activision website, the developer has announced CTR's next Grand Prix will be the final one.
It’s absolutely a bittersweet thing for us to announce that the next Grand Prix will be the last, but at the same time we want players to know that the race isn’t over.
Through the Grand Prix, we’ve delivered fresh, new content to Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. Our community has raced through the multitude of new tracks and challenges with each season and have amassed an amazing collection of new characters and skins and shown their style in insane new ways by customizing all their karts.
Although there'll be no more new Grand Prix seasons, players will still be able to enjoy all of the game modes (including online matchmaking), along with a new ongoing challenge system, new time trials, and even new characters, skins and karts scheduled to arrive not long after the release of the final Grand Prix. You'll also be able to acquire existing GP items from the Pit Stop on a daily basis.
Beenox also teased a long-awaited item it's adding to the game, that it thinks fans will be "very happy" about. You can read the fine details over on the official website.
Have you participated in any of these Grand Prix over the past eight months? Tell us below.

Alas, I was hoping they would at least add Dr. Crash and Pink Gold Coco before the finale, but even still, that's a lot of content they revved up post launch!
Will the content still be accessible somehow?
To see a lot of contents via updates, it needs an Ultimate version release with All contents inside one cartridge or BluRay disc.
@SheldonRandoms I was hoping for a second Spyro GP. Awww well.
@Anti-Matter I don't think it will get one. Me and most people worked very hard to get all the content, but it's also quite a core mechanic post Adventure Mode and one that will keep the online community alive long after the seasons are finished, everyone who hasn't played a lot over the seasons will be earning coins to buy what is left and then there will be new players with everything to get.
@Jayofmaya so the content is still unlocked with the coins?
Oh, last one huh. After 270 hours, I'm kinda burned out on CTR. It is an awesome game, though. That's about the same amount of time I put into Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
@Anti-Matter Nah, that's not going to happen.
@scubydo After the last Grand Prix, "The Pit Stop will feature items from each Grand Prix season. Players will be able to view a variety of items by refreshing the Pit Stop screen up to 2 times per day".

I'm happy the end of grands prix does not also mean the end of new content. In a way, I'm happy I'm not going to have to constantly worry about my placing in the nitro standings, but the huge blast of themed content was fun to collect.
I'm calling it now, the last characters being added are the Twin Parrots from Crash Twinsanity. There's no way they aren't getting added.
This game has been absolutely insane with it's content, I would've been fine with just like 3 grand prixs, but we got 8, other than the damn microtransactions, this game has been amazing
@scubydo As someone said yep, you will see at least 2 different stocks of items a day and the challenges will continue after this coming GP. The challenges will earn additional coins so you'll have lots of chances to get enough coins to buy whatever you want to.
A bummer but I honestly thought it was only having 3 grand prix initially.
Thoroughly enjoyed this game. Lots of content from the start with more added regularly since. Really gives Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a run for it's money. Shame it will be the last Grand Prix but I can't complain at all.
Money must have dried up. Wouldn't surprise me if a sequel is fully in development to get people to buy back in and they can milk the casual players and spenders all over again.
They've milked the console whales dry. Time to port it to mobile.
And they still haven't fixed any of the glitches.
I did play the first GP yes, aside from the added content I didn't really like it. I'd prefer to play the game the way I want and whenever I want. The way it was designed basically forced you to slave away doing boring tasks, it really felt more like a chore than playing for the sake of having fun. I should mention though, that aside from that the game itself was one of the best racing games I've ever played.
I wish they would add some way, (ie gold siver bronze)so I could see my progress in the single cup races offline
"You'll also be able to acquire existing GP items from the Pit Stop on a daily basis."
If this is true, and all the GP stuff is just available in-game (Granted, through grinding), i might actually return to the game.
The horrendous cost of these items, the relatively tiny payoff from playing paired with these items being GP exclusive pretty much killed my interest in the game.
I love collecting and unlocking stuff and i'm willing to stomach the grind for it. But the cost/payoff balance would have meant to play nothing but CTR to get everything...and i don't like being forced like that or miss out.
So, fingers crossed that everything will simply be available and on a normal rotation.
Gave up after they introduced the massive grind and ruined the game. Hopefully after the GP is over and the new format is introduced the ability to unlock things without paying with real cash will be easier and they reduce the grind. This went from being one of my favourite games to my most hated when the post release tweaks gave it a mobile game style grind and the pay to unlock mechanisms - truly disgusting to add all that after the reviews.
Hopefully this game will become playable again
I need 1 paid DLC where I can just unlock everything at once
@hakjie11 I'd rather not have that, While it wouldn't guarantee that they would make the grind horrible to entice people to buy said DLC but still I'd rather not have the pay once unlock all DLC and not take that chance
I'm the insane person that wanted to have everything unlocked so I've been playing each Grand Prix, grinding coins and nitro where I've completed every bar, have every decal on the Champion kart and been slowly chipping away the alternate colors. The game should have totally reduced the coin prices, they totally had sh*tty microtransactions and I dont recommend anyone playing a game as long as I've done here (Think around 400+ hours)
That said, I'm glad of everything that was added. There was clear love for Crash all throughout this from adding the entire cast of the original trilogy and hell, the first thing I've ever seen to celebrate post Naughty Dog Crash. All together there is so much content that I really hope Mario Kart 9 takes what Crash did right into consideration from the expansive character list, track list and the wealth of kart customization. If the game didnt have such blatant microtransactions, I feel this game would be viewed a lot better, but as it stands, this could very well be my favorite or second favorite kart racer against Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I will say though, I am happy the only money I spent on this game is the $5 Firehawk for charity purposes. You really can unlock everything without spending and hopefully the end of GPs will allow everyone to get all the past content without time limits to it. Still, with finishing Cindered Shadows right now, this will be the end of the two big games of 2019 for me as I look forward to 2020...where man I hope theres a Direct soon lol
It felt a bit of a chore/grind to unlock stuff. But at the end of the day, the base game was cheap and stacked with content. The rest was just gravy, and gravy that is free as long as you put the time in. I think they hit a good balance really. I don't enjoy the base gameplay as much as Mario Kart 8. I think it suffers the same issue as Mario Kart DS. They both feature Snaking, which I don't really enjoy as a mechanic(as it's hard work, and you're not gonna come close to winning without doing it)
Sounds like the game will be more fun now, so I'll look into picking it up soon
@WarioWoodsfan I’ve never wanted an unlock all dlc before, the unlockables should be something to work for. I love NBA playgrounds 1&2 and they were hard work to unlock all and I’m still not there but close.... and I’ve resisted unlock all dlc - but CTR is the worst type of grind and made to make you pay out over and over - I’ve paid nothing and unlocking stuff is near impossible.... at any sort of rewarding speed anyway.... the game went from a 8/9 for me to a 3/4.... they ruined it with pay mechanics
All that unlockable stuff is kinda redundant since you gotta pay for most of it. Overall I was very disappointed with this game, after I beat the adventure mode I stopped caring and went back to playing Mario Kart 8D. Even Sonic Team Racing was a far better game and I still play that on occasion, but this new CTR is dead to me. I might go back one of these days and play the original PS1 version, but the remake was ruined by greedy Activision.
@scubydo there's a decent chunk of content unlocked through playing the Adventure Mode
@scubydo yes, they’ve been adding the earlier Grand Prix content to the shop a couple of months later.
Honestly I've enjoyed it but I still think they should have had a few weeks break between each grand Prix. As someone who at the very least wanted everything in the grand Prix tiers and the champion kart decal it was downright stressful sometimes trying to get it done. I've had to smash it this week as I had most of the gold tier left lol. I'm currently in the top 5% (30767 when I checked like half an hour ago) so I'm just praying no-one kicks me over the 39000 mark before tomorrow lol
Dlc offers great fan service but the game plays like a wet weekend in Grimsby
@Woomy_NNYes That’s good to hear I’m have a good chunk of stuff but that’ll make it easier to get the rest of the items I need
@WarioWoodsfan I don't think that would make any difference, if you can grind for it for free that is. Some of us just want to try out everything but don't have 30 hours to grind.
I'm happy there will still be new content coming even without the GP's
I am actually happy it is ending. Got a bit sick of allllll the grinding. That being said: I can never unlock everything if they still keep adding stuff. There are still soooo many skins, wheels etc that I have yet to unlock and they all cost so much!
