After a rumour last week that Mark Hamill – best known as Luke Skywalker – would be cast as Vesemir in season two of Netflix's insanely popular Witcher series, the digital streaming giant has now confirmed who'll actually be taking on the role.
It's the veteran Danish actor Kim Bodnia, who portrayed Konstantin Vasiliev in the spy thriller television series Killing Eve and received a BAFTA nomination for the best supporting actor last year. Here's what showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich had to say about the actor playing the Continent's "oldest and most experienced" Witcher:
I am so thrilled to welcome Kim Bodnia to the cast of The Witcher. I have admired his unique talents in shows like Killing Eve and The Bridge, and cannot wait for him to bring strength, tenacity, and warmth to the character of Vesemir, who is such an integral part of our upcoming season.
So, there you have it – we finally know who will be playing Vesemir in season two, when it premieres in 2021. Here are the many other previously announced new faces joining the second season:
Are you happy with the casting choice for Vesemir? Are you familiar with Bodnia's previous work? What do you think of the other new faces joining season two? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Shame it’s not Mark Hamill but I loooove him in Killing Eve and honestly it makes more sense having a European actor given that Vesemir always had more of an accent than the other Witchers.
@nessisonett Agreed, this is a solid choice. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do with Vesemir.
@nessisonett I agree . Haven’t seen killing Eve, but really liked his acting in the Bridge!
I am on episode 7 and once I’m done I’m going to rewatch entire series, then go back and add to my 50+ hours of switcher 3.
Can’t wait for season 2!
Good news all around. I think for next time, we all know not to trust reports and rumors from We Got This Covered. Can't wait for season 2!
Who ever plays Eskel has got his work cut out for him. From what I've seen Eskel comes close to being the best witcher in the series, second only to Geralt.
Would have loved to have seen Clive Standen (Rollo) from viking portrayed as eskel.
Pusher serien er best, glem Skywalker. Kim Bodnia hele veien!
@Friendly The Bridge is great and I think its really lost something since his departure. Killing Eve is just a complete mess IMO and does not deserve the accolades/awards/glowing reviews it has received.
Killing Eve is fantastic
I would've loved Mark Hamill in the role but that was some A+ casting
If you would like to see Kim Bodnia's greatest performance, see the amazing Danish film called "Pusher".
It has to be the first one, since he's not in the sequal. It's a great film also starring Mads Mikkelsen.
I wanted Hamill but this is still great casting as he's a great actor.
What makes me really happy is that the Nintendo audience - those who don't play on other systems that is - came to appreciate this wonderful series!
@geox30 Well. It is on the Switch, you know?
@Spanjard
Really? You're not kidding me?
@geox30 Ah, you mean in general! I got confused by the word ‘series’ which in my language refers to the show only.
I love Mark but he really didn't fit vesemir to me. Im much happier with a less American casting for this role. He's got a good old world gravity to him.
This guys awesome. That's all I have to say really...😞
awesome actor, i loved the Pusher trilogy started with him in main role and Mads in secondary.
