A graphic novel series based on the ARMS IP has been in the works at Dark Horse Comics for some time now, but we're sure we don't need to tell you all that as wonderful as the game is, it's not exactly at the forefront of most Switch owners' minds anymore; feel free to correct us on this fact in the comments.
Despite us now being nearly three years on from the game's launch, these graphic novels are still planned to release. At Toy Fair 2020 in New York a Dark Horse representative confirmed their intent to continue beavering away at the project, even if we are the best part of two years from its originally planned release date.
No concrete date has been set for the series, but you can be certain we'll let you know as soon as we do. We're nice like that.
Are you keen to read up on the springy-armed shenanigans of the ARMS cast? Drop us a little note saying just that in the comments below.

I feel like ARMS is SOOOOO close to being a great IP
Dear Nintendo.
Please create ARMS 2 with more features, character creation, Boxing mode (without stretching arms) and more interesting mini games.
I'd guess the graphic novels' release will be timed with the release of ARMS 2 (or at least announcement of ARMS 2). Most of 2017's 1st party games and Nintendo collaborations for Switch have strong potential for sequels. MK8 Deluxe feels like the least likely to get one.
Yes yes man, lookin forward to it
Love this game, it's one of the best and most innovative fighting games ever made.
Maybe they're waiting for ARMS 2?
The lore in ARMS is really intriguing, so I've been looking forward to the comic. This makes me hopeful that an ARMS 2 is in the works. I'd love an actual story/adventure mode in a sequel.
That's a relief, I remember reading the previews they released back at the end of 2017 and really enjoying it
I want a sequel. I looooove ARMS. Criminally underplayed game.
I just want a punch out Wii HD port. Instead Nintendo gave me ARMS and never bothered to put it on sale after demo after demo after demo and no buys.
ARMS was underrated! I will enjoy this.
@sixrings ARMS went on sale multiple times, often alongside Splatoon 2.
@sixrings
I can move freely and able to unleash Rush (somewhat similar as Super Art from Street Fighter Alpha) from ARMS, but in Punch Out , you cannot move freely, just only try to hit your opponent from locked angle all the time.
I'd give this a go, I loved Arms! Would love to see it get a sequel too.
@Anti-Matter moving freely dose not make arms better in my opinion. But that's my take. I'm ok with ARMs just give me a remastered punch out at least.
@nuovian there's been multiple sales since Christmas and I'm sure not one included arms. Kirby also manages to avoid sales.
Oh right.....Arms was a thing. I guess.
I was looking forward to this but it's been so long that I'd forgotten it was happening. Good to hear it's still on track.
I was just thinking about playing this again.
The glimpse we got to see a couple years back during free comic book day got me wanting more
I'm actually stoked about this. Bring it on!
I hope it covers Twintelle extensively.
I even forgot that Arms was a thing.
Can we stop pretending that ARMS was a good game please?
@koaeinferno
I love the art style but I couldn't get into the game play. Maybe they can improve it in the sequel.
ARMS was a fun game, love that they tried new IP and sort of built up lore (albeit outside the game). They prob should not have set it at full price though, more people would've adopted it if it were more in the $45 range. I think fighters in general are a bit of a harder sell (exception to Smash Bros)
Why do people want to let this IP die. Been noticing a lot of that for ARMS.
@DeltaPeng $20 to $40 seems to be the price range for Fighters nowadays with paid dlc (if more they usually drop down cheap like SFV)
I loved Arms, hyped for the comics
Min-Min for win win!
I loved Arms! I really hope that the next Arms 2 it brings a story mode, more game modes, etc
Arms is fun to play even today (volleyball and slam dunk are way fun), and the character designs are as good as Overwatch and such, they ooze personality!
@Cognitron I haven't played nearly that much, but it's still one of the top games for multiplayer with my kid and me.
I'd totally be down for a sequel or even just a DLC pack.
Obviously a one-man/woman project.
@Grumblevolcano According to the writer, Ian Flynn (the current writer of the Sonic comics) the graphic novel was finished by the time he was done with it, him basically being commissioned work. I was wondering if the comic might have been delayed because of the game underperforming, but they already paid for the script and had a preview comic made-they have work done and ready.
I adore ARMS, and can see tons of ways the gameplay could be built on, so maybe the devs were considering a sequel, and Nintendo delayed it for when that launches, as a sort of 'catch-up' to ARMS 2? It makes the most sense.
I was really sad that the ARMS graphic novel kind of faded away, I love comics, but haven't been into too many for a ton of reasons. A straightforward graphic novel of my favorite Switch title, without any baggage and overseen by Nintendo, who's super careful about how their characters are presented? Sounds great, I just want it released so I can finally buy a copy to read-heck, maybe two to keep one preserved.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, while the game is light on story, there actually are a bunch of details about lore and some of the characters that were really intriguing. They were unavailable to most, initially being posted on the Japanese ARMS Twitter, but the release of the art gallery brought over translations with some cool details. Agh, now I'm getting nostalgic and excited! Really hope there's more for ARMS future. At the very least, I'd take Spring Man as a fighter in Smash (his assist trophy replaced by Springtron) or the more likely prospect of the ARMS music getting into the game.
@koaeinferno
NO.
ARMS is great 1st party game on Switch.
You know NOTHING about ARMS.
Hush !
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved ARMS (I mean, I still like it, it's just not as interesting without the online tournaments), considering I don't especially like fighting games, and the last original IP by Nintendo that I took the plunge on I ended up hating (I forgot what it's called... Slorfoon or something?). So I will gladly accept any and all ARMS-related... anything, really.
@Ardisan True, I think ARMS would've done better at this price range. Unfortunately, Nintendo is a bit like Apple when it comes to selling their games at high/premium prices though...
Some are totally worth it. Others I'd say they'd benefit to go cheaper
