Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Hosts amiibo Tag Tournament Later This Week

I would have been tempted had online been free. Haven't I paid enough for (I dread to contemplate how many) amiibo?!

Didn't we just have tournaments for the past week, or is that no and I miscalculated? What's the use of these tournaments in Smash anyway? Do they provide new Spirits?

@KingBowser they're always running and are sometimes themed related to another game being released and the like. It's just a fun alternative to normal play with a specific ruleset/set character list to choose from. You get spirits out of it but they're not necessarily new, so you might get something you already have - I have them all so I don't care too much for the spirit side of it. Tournaments don't affect your character's GSP so it's a good way to try out characters against real people online.

So should I use Link, Toon Link, Young Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Shulk, Chrom, Wario or Inkling? O_o

I had no problems winning tournaments without my amiibo and I'm an even better Amiibo trainer than I am a player. Get ready my Ridley, this is going to be a cakewalk.

I hate when youtubers like Alpharad do these. Well he does CPU tournaments which are even more lazy. At least you have to train an amiibo

Does anyone know if amiibo unlock fighters? I already know that non-fighter amiibo unlocks spirits. Thanks.

@kokumaker : As opposed to online play previously being free for years prior. Why are people so insistent on acting like marketing personnel for products/services that aren't theirs to sell?

On my end, it would come to AU$2.50 per month. Still not worth it as I typically don't play games online and the few other features are not of interest to me. I enjoy Tetris 99, but I don't think it's worth paying a monthly subscription for, as that would pretty much be the only game I would play online on a regular basis. AU$30 per year will add up and on top of life's many other expenses, and I would frankly prefer to spend my money elsewhere rather than throwing my money at Nintendo as they have realised how lucrative it is to charge money for staple functionality (they're now swimming in the cash of 10 million paying subscribers). I can't blame Nintendo for jumping on the bandwagon of paid online when the masses are so gullible. Had there been backlash against it, Nintendo would have surely changed their tune, but the people have spoken with their wallets and allowed this to happen. I don't understand why consumers are so eager to acquiesce to their own detriment, but why people do a lot of things is a mystery to me.

Good for those who can justify the expense and feel like they're getting their money's worth, but I think it's poor value for money.

@Capt_N : No, they don't, unfortunately. You'll have to unlock them the hard way.

You can also use amiibo for DLC fighters even if you have not purchased the relevant DLC (though you will need the most recent updates).
