If there's one thing we didn't expect to appear on the weird and wacky world of YouTube, it was a series of meme culture-style videos exploring slightly obscure facts from Nintendo games narrated by Sean Astin. As it happens, that ridiculously specific form of entertainment has actually taken shape.
The Stranger Things, Goonies, and The Lord of the Rings star has kickstarted a new animated series which dives into a number of series we hold dear. We're talking the likes of Super Mario and Pokémon, but there are also videos relating to standalone releases like GoldenEye 007 on the N64 and even the Nintendo PlayStation console.
If you're a fan, we imagine you'll get a kick out of hearing Astin talk about your favourite games. Check them out below.
We've no idea why this series is happening, but sure, why not?
Did you learn anything new, or are you already such a super fan that these facts are permanently etched into your brain? Tell us below.

Indeed "permanently etched into my brain", but still cool that a celebrity presents these facts on YouTube.
After watching the Mario video, it feels like I learned like 3 things about Mario, and had a bunch of clips thrown in my face for the rest of the video. The edits and extra clips are annoying, and I'm almost certain these facts were presented uninterrupted on DYKG.
I like Sean Astin, but I'd rather watch him doing what he does best, from The Goonies, to Encino Man, to Lord of the Rings.
I watched the new Goldeneye mockumentary. It were mostly about N64, but were also a parody.
Best since Spinal Tap movie. A sequel is on the way.
NO, from the Goonies star!! Forever a goonie!
@KayFiOS I completely agree. This felt like pandering, or patronizing? Or maybe a little of both.
Side note, anyone who wants to check out how to do these types of videos right, look up a guy named Zeltik on Youtube. I thought I was a hardcore Zelda fan, and he has tought me a bunch of stuff I never knew or looked right past.
He'd better get Elijah Wood to guest star someday, because Elijah Wood is a huge gamer (he was even the voice of Spyro in The Legend of Spyro Trilogy).
Well, I guess he's gotta keep himself busy somehow. Frankly, I wish Nickelodeon had kept the previous TMNT cartoon going longer.
Well he was the narrator of that video games the movie a few years back and he's been in another video game documentary. Do you think they could be related to why he'd be in a YouTube series about video games?
Ah, he's going to get millions of subscribers based on his Hollywood status alone - further making it harder for anyone new to succeed.
Stick to Hollywood please, you're already rich and famous. Stop trying to drown out smaller content producers who do their own work.
Because I don't believe for a nano-second that a big name Hollywood star like this is doing even half of the research, editing and social networking that goes into running a successful YouTube channel.
