The Nintendo Switch is about to get a new puzzle-adventure in the form of EQQO, the latest game from indie developer, Parallel Studio.
The team - founded by ex-members of DontNod Entertainment, Ubisoft and Quantic Dream - originally created the game for VR devices, but this latest version is headed to Switch and PC. It's described as a "poetic and meaningful" adventure which has been inspired by nature and Ethiopian mythology.
A press release detailing the announcement notes that the game tells "the improbable tale of two foreign creatures": a child who cannot see, and an egg which is as fragile as it is vital. Players will use the powers of this egg to advance through sacred lands and mysterious rooms, dodging traps and repelling those that want to seize the egg for themselves.
We've got a lengthy feature list for you below, including details on a DLC option where you can plant a real-life tree:
KEY FEATURES
Story: A multi-layered story full of symbols and metaphors about hope, love, nature and everything that connects us.
Adventure: Four to five hours of exploration and puzzle-solving in sacred lands and monumental temple rooms. 25 hidden parchment scrolls to find and reveal new parts of the legend.
Art: Music composed by Nicolas Bredin and played by the world-renowned Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Spectacular sceneries and an immersive “360-degree cinematic” experience supporting the use of the gyroscope.
Culture: Items and architecture inspired by Ethiopian mythology and traditions such as the pilgrimage to the Rock-Hewn churches of Lalibela.
Ecological Impact: The possibility to plant your own tree, both in-game and in real life, with the 1 EUR/USD DLC #EqqoDonation.
The game is scheduled to launch on Switch on 7th February and will be priced at $6 / 6€. Ronan Coiffec, founder of Parallel Studio, says, "We aim to craft immersive and artistic games focusing on emotions. We hope you will enjoy EQQO and connect with the different layers of its story".

like the dolphin?
(jokes aside, this looks pretty swell sucker for these sorts of games)
@somebread I think more like Ico, the kid with the horns
Clearly inspired by Ico and Journey. The Ico titles (SotC/Last Guardian) are some of the only games still tethering me to Playstation.
@Itsacardgame @Ulysses Yep, you're both right! Ico was a strong inspiration for the devs
@JTTS I'll speak on behalf of the devs:
it's a game that makes you feel on top of the tale, almost like a god with a big hand in the sky, except you're the mother of Eqqo, making her own story happen as she tells it.
Like a guide with this big hand, you will have to activate some devices and mechanisms that are out of reach from the hero.
Also, Eqqo is blind, so he moves by hearing/feeling you "knock on the ground" where he has to go.
Eqqo is from a village of pilgrims as well, which suits well what's described above.
@Nakana_Mika That's a really neat idea! Reminds me a bit of the great storytelling device in Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time!
