A few months after Fire Emblem: Three Houses had been released on the Switch, Nintendo had to replace the voice of the male version of Blyeth, after the character's voice actor revealed he had abused and mistreated both friends and partners over the past decade.
The new voiceover for the male version of Blyeth was done by Zack Aguilar. He also ended up recording lines for the same character in the mobile hit, Fire Emblem Heroes. As you've probably worked out by now, this same voice actor is voicing the male version of Byleth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Not long after the character reveal was made official by Masahiro Sakurai, Aguilar took to Twitter to confirm the news and share his excitement:
I can’t believe I get to finally announce this today. Literally, a childhood dream come true... I VOICE BYLETH IN SMASH. I have the absolute honor to say that I returned to voice the role of Byleth for Super Smash Bros Ultimate!
And for those wondering, the female version of Byleth is once again being handled by Jeannie Tirado – the same voice actor who brought the character to life in Three Houses and Heroes. Tirado shared the following message on Twitter after the big reveal:
So excited to finally announce, I’m in Super Smash Bros Ultimate! FemByleth from Fire Emblem joins the fight. Let’s just say, her competitors are about to get SCHOOLED!
The fifth DLC fighter Byleth is planned to be released later this month on 28th January. For more details check out the character's announcement post.

i forgot he was the same actor that does Tanjiro from Demon Slayer.
great to hear.
Good for him, he sounds like he's on cloud 9.
I'm glad that the ""original"" voice actor is back.
LET THE LESSON BEGIN!
Great for him! Hope it leads to more for him in the future!
@Aozz101x Not sure if you know, but if you didn't, he also does Genos from One Punch Man.
What about female Byleth?
@locky-mavo It's Jeannie Tirado again. The original voice of female Byleth. I've updated the post to reflect this.
@Elvie i haven't watch One Punch Man yet. but, that's great to know.
@locky-mavo i think the Female Version of Byleth remains with the same actor from Three Houses.
So glad they're happy. But I really hope they stay away from the uh, "unhappy" side of the Byleth reactions, because they're super talented and don't deserve hate. They did great work as the role of the Professor and made me feel like I was really in command of my students. And I will lead everyone into battle on the 28th, let's go!!
He sounds thrilled, which is nice to see. Maybe he’ll get more to say this time round, eh?
@nessisonett
With this being my first Fire Emblem game, I couldn't be happier. I can't wait to hear their taunts and victory lines!
He truly is a reliable guy.
He was better than the old guy anyway.

Male Byleth might as well not exist for me. I very much prefer the female design and feel a female Byleth fits the story much better.
Just my personal opinion. No need to throw a fit if you don't agree.
@Aozz101x
One Punch Man is my favorite recent anime. I don't take many chances on anime. It's got a great premise. Just saying.
Well, who else was going to voice him? Arnold Schwarzenegger!?
“Brought to life” is a bit of a stretch, when talking about Byleth...
Almost got the Brawl Taunts creator in Smash.
Ok, I'll bite. Who the heck is Zack and why is everyone so excited for this?
@NEStalgia Oh, this article is just another spin on the FE voice actor controversy, if anyone remembers that. Gotta strike while the iron is hot regarding the new Smash reveal. Hopefully some people gets riled up as well.
@Quarth Thankfully a bad attempt resurrecting it and one of the very rare occasions NL commenters didn't take the troll bait.
@NEStalgia People seem to have forgotten all about it, some other "controversy" probably replaced it. 😋
@Smashfan502 what i meant is that there isn’t much to bring to life to begin with, with “deadeye” Byleth.
I admire the profession of voice acting.
@Smashfan502 ...Are you serious? Brawl Taunts was a Newgrounds series back in ye olde days. I assumed you would have know but I guess not.
Do some research before replying with a dumb answer please.
@Smashfan502 Just because it’s the truth doesn’t mean it’s a mean answer.
