Update: Demon Pit will hit Switch on 25th December. The PS4 version comes earlier on 17th/18th December (NA/EU respectively), while Xbox One owners get to play it on 24th December.
Original Story [Thu 15th Aug, 2019 16:45 BST]: Indie publisher Digerati has announced Demon Pit for Nintendo Switch, an "intense, arcade-style arena shooter" launching later this year.
If you've watched the trailer above, you'll have instantly noticed that '90s FPS aesthetic and style of titles like Quake, Quake II, Doom, and Blood - games from which Demon Pit takes plenty of inspiration.
Players will need to survive against endless waves of the demon horde in a "constantly changing arena" - the goal is to get yourself right to the very top of the leaderboard.
Key features
- Battle 10 types of hideous hell spawn
- Repel the demon horde with 7 varied weapons
- Use your soul grapple to traverse the arena quickly and avoid the oncoming legion
- Master movement to survive the changing environment and its hazards
- Constantly kill to keep your multiplier alive and compete for leaderboard immortality
We don't have an exact release date for this one just yet, but it's expected to launch on Switch and other major platforms in Q3/Q4 2019.

This looks like it could be fun to play for a bit... if it were free.
So much nope on display here.
Looks pretty poor, looks like a free mobile game.wow 10 demons !!
The 20 year old Quake 3 Arena is superior to this, and also looks better.
This game looks like a Doom 1993 rip off.
Looks fun to me. I must see the price.
Classic DOOM looks better than this.
@AlternateButtons People are just weirdly subjective at times. Not every game needs to be amazingly innovative; sometimes developers make simpler creations by choice, for the mere fun of run-n-gun action.
When I read "Arena Shooter" and saw the different character models I was actually really excited. I thought this was supposed to be a Quake-style affair with other players picking up different weapons and fighting each other in different hell-based locations.
So I watched the video... And immediately lost all interest. It's just a single player wave survival game in a single location... Blehhhh the potential, so squandered.
Not too upset by the GFX particularly, but would love to see it have some multiplayer.
I'm all for retro style games, but there needs to be some effort and modern features put in.
A wave mode is the laziest mode there is. So to base your entire game around it just screams low effort. Do co-op, campaign, unlocks, progression system, upgrades, challenges, anything to up the replay ability.
That's a whooooooole lot of orange & red.
@Azikira If it's done well, and has a good, cheap price, then nothing is squandered. Obviously they werent shooting for an arena mp game.
I'll pass on that and stick with Doom. Where the heck is Dusk?
One of DOOM's biggest strengths in particular is not being wave based, so that's kind of an inconvenient comparison for them.
For what it is though, seems cool.
I will keep a lookout for this really anticipating Dusk, Amid Evil, and Ion Fury for switch!😃
Not sure something needs a "spiritual successor" if it has an actual successor. Not a slight on the game, just a funny way to describe it is all.
May actually run ok on the Switch so there's that.
Not for me though.
@frabbit Yeah it's like calling every other Platformer a Super Mario Bros. Spiritual Successor.
Mmmm gameplay looks fun, but endless fighting in a single arena ain't my style.
Sorry but when the King is already available no one is gonna buy the wannabe, especially when it doesn't look too great.
Looks horrible. How is this a doom spiritual successor again?
I agree with most saying that it looks horrible. Looks awfully dated.
If you want something that feels like an arena shooter with tons of ennemies to shoot at, I suggest looking for Immortal Redneck, which does actually look good, plays tight, and is tons of fun (especially since it mixes in some roguelike elements). No multiplayer though.
But this Demon Pit game looks like something you'd expect out of a cheap mobile game given away for free because it tried to sell at $1.99 and no one bought it.
This looks great, for a free set of doom wads.
What an insult to iD Software, whose DOOM games are every bit as fun now as they have been since 1993.
And better looking too.
I mean, yeesh, this looks like DS shovelware. And to put things into harsher perspective, DOOM was built from scratch by a team of about six on extremely limited hardware.
Frankly, I would have been more likely to cough up money for some DOOM wads on Switch instead.
1) Isn't the entire actual Doom franchise available on Switch at this point?
2) Survival/Horde is a mode available for free in other games, but they are charging us for just that here? If this is more than $9.99 USD, that's a no from me.
@vio Delayed one week.
More like, "Spiritual failure"
@diablo2 when are they going to remaster/remake your name!!!!
Looks fun - but those enemy models are kinda standout basic.
But again, it does look fun, and all reviews should have a fun-factor score first and foremost.
It looks like a PC game from the 1990s.
why buy this when doom is available on the switch and practically every device with a cpu in it via source ports?
id rather wait for Doom Eternal
What does this mobile looking garbage have to do with doom in any way? ( the spiritual successor comment ) doom 1 and 2 are timeless and proven masterpieces. This looks like hot ass. And, literally has no connection to doom in any way.
This doesn't look like a spiritual successor to Doom. It looks like a bad knock-off of Serious Sam.
"Spiritual successor" usually implies a sort of "we're the same guys, but we can't call it/make it a sequel for legal reasons" situation. Let's call this a homage, yes?
Looks nothing like doom. Tired of games calling themselves doom. Now I understand how fans of rogue feel about rogue likes.
Nintendo have Doom64 listed to release on the 31 December, 2020! I really hope that's a typo and its this year.
A spiritual successor to Doom it is not. A weekend cobbled Quake rip off maybe. This looks ok but for free only.
1) Arena
2) Wave based
3) No level progression
4) No ‘horror’ atmosphere
5) No real art direction
6) Itty music
This is NOTHING like Doom.
What happened to Ion Fury? I’ve been waiting for that one.
@Antraxx777 you nailed my thoughts exactly, you evil wizard get out of my head!!
