As satisfying as it is to see an instruction manual inside a video game case nowadays, it's no use when it doesn't actually include the controls of the system you're playing on.
This is exactly what a Reddit and YouTube user encountered when they picked up a European physical copy of The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors for Nintendo Switch recently. Instead of the manual featuring instructions for Switch controls, it instructs the player how to perform moves in the game with the PlayStation DualShock 4 controller.
Square, circle, triangle, and cross are all in there, and so is the unique control pad.
This apparently isn't an isolated issue, either. According to the source, a "few other recent unboxings" of the North American Switch physical release also have manuals with PlayStation 4 controls.
Fortunately, the digital manual for the Nintendo release – found within the game's menu – includes the correct instructions.

DS4 support coming to Switch :^)
I wonder how many people who get the Switch version will press the X button on the Joy-Con and get upset that it doesn't do what the manual says.
The one time you’re talking about a D-Pad, you call it a control pad. I’m pretty much done with this site.
The (dual)shocking thing is that the game actually came with a printed manual in the box!
Everybody has a dual shock with a switch, it comes with it in every box, this game was the only one to actually make use of it, how kind of them
Yes I have encountered something like this. Anyone remember the Disney movie Chicken Little and its game? Well, the GameCube version of the manual has the PlayStation style X button right at the top of page 17. Specifically for Abby Mallard's jump.
Fun part, the rest of the manual all have GameCube controls. I actually pulled out the manual just to double check too.
Color me dually shocked.
@blecch Agreed! The most shocking thing was indeed that the game box actually came with a manual. Ah how I miss those days.
Unfortunately my Play-Asia copy never came with a manual so I didn't see any problem with it, I do realize that it had a digital manual which was the correct one similar to my Super NES one.
I'm still awaiting my CE from Strictly Limited and I seriously hope it doesn't have the same mistake in the manual (as far as I know, their edition was done completely separately from the regular release).
I mean, it's not THAT big of an issue, but still...
I told them on Twitter the day I got it but they ignored me. -_-
To be fair all the main consoles have controllers that are alike the Pro controller is basically a Xbone/360 controller
aren't like years ago when consoles are very different controllers like the Genesis/SNES for example
Does this make it one of the most sought after physical Switch games?
Haha I got the game with the misprinted manual. Hey I'm just happy to have a game with a manual in 2019. Also, didn't a PS4 Tell Tale game get released with XBox button prompts for QTEs? That must have been quite confusing.
What ever happened to Quality Control??
You can't download a patch for that mistake
I think the big news here is that a Switch game has a printed manual!
You know what, though..
I instinctively know the layouts of the four Playstation buttons, having only ever owned a PS1 and (for a very short while) a PS3.
Multiple Nintendo systems later, I still occasionally find myself looking down to see which is X and Y on Nintendo controllers.
Oh, and .. They're not "Square, Triangle, Circle and Cross"..
.. Silly people!!
They're "Kick, Punch, Chop.. and Block.."
@SalvorHardin DS4 already worked on Switch since launch, and so did Xbox One, Xbox 360 controllers etc.
Just get a Switch Mayflash adapter. I did when Switch launched.
Also. This Switch adapter can also be used on PC, PS3, Neo Geo Mini and NVIDIA Shield TV.
Supports wireless and wired gamepads. I only paid 15$ for it on release, over 2 years ago.
I don't understand. My controller doesn't have an X button, it only has an X button.
they probably just didn't care most games nowadays don't come with a physical manual in the case
The PS4 version of Risk of Rain says to push B to jump instead of X
This would actually be easier for me to learn. Maybe it was the countless hours I spent playing Final Fantasy IX in the beginning with the sword fight that ingrained the playstation controller as my default.
Not really Nintendo's fault though. Xbox with the swapped abxy as bayx is what hurt me. Why, Microsoft? You could've used numbers or something and I wouldn't have this deficiency 😭
Yup, when I received my copy of this, mine came with a manual for the PS4 controls in it! lol!
