Nintendo has shared a list of the top 30 best-selling games on the Nintendo eShop for September 2019.
There's no stopping the mighty Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which tops the list this time around, but some of September's biggest releases also made it to the top few positions.
This list comes from the Nintendo Switch news channel, distributed specifically to users in North America. It notes that the ranking is "based on Nintendo eShop unit sales", which includes games of all prices (even if they're free to download) but discounts demos.
Here's the full list:
1. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
2. Fortnite
3. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
4. Untitled Goose Game
5. Minecraft
6. Super Kirby Clash
7. Final Fantasy VIII Remastered

10. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
11. Undertale
12. Astral Chain

25. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
26. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Hopefully untitled goose game did well enough to secure a physical release! On 1st appearance, so far so good. It’s in pretty good company up there.
Astral Chain out of the top 10?
SSBU is unstoppable lol
River City Girls should be much higher. It's a fantastic game.
@hoopderscotch I hope they reached their sales target with that game. Even though early demos were lacking, it’s clear they cared and poured their heart into the game.
No wonder their first party games never go down in price
@CupidStunt That's not true... most generations have had the "Nintendo Selects" line that provides first-party titles at a significantly reduced price.
Glad to see Celeste reaching some more people.
I guess the chances of getting a Ni no Kuni 2 port are looking pretty grim.
UGG Game of the Year!
A good position for DQ considering it was only out for about 3 or 4 days of that month.
How is a FREE game the 2nd most PURCHASED game? (O.o)
@PharoneTheGnome
It's due to profit gained, not copies sold. The game makes money from cosmetics.
@JR150 You sure it's not by download?
@Spiders
The game is free so downloading it doesn't go towards sales. It's the cosmetics XD
@hoopderscotch I’m going to definitely say that’s an underrated game then.
@PharoneTheGnome
@JR150
@Spiders
It’s by number of downloads, as explained in the text above the list.
Nice to see people are doing their research and not buying trash. Most of the games on that list are seriously quality titles.
I'm going to be careful to not support lazy posts etc... unfortunately, as I suspected, A Hat in Time has turned out to be one of them. The first review shows it to be the unoptimised mess on Switch I thought it likely to be, and I'll be very surprised if they adequately fix it ever.
The main dev is an arrogant man who takes criticism too personally instead of taking it on the chin and actually fixing it by hiring someone who actually knows how to optimise code. The game has been very lucky with its reviews so far, due to demanding ridiculously high system requirements on PC for this type of game. High end machine hide the sloppy craftsmanship and masked what a mess it is.
The Mac version supported by many Kickstarters, was borderline criminal. It was utterly unplayable and years later it's still unfixed. The company dealt with that version by completely ignoring support emails and never mentioning its existence again – but still keeping on charging for it on Steam. Disgusting practice for any company.
I'm genuinely surprised they managed to make it playable on PS4. Please think carefully about supporting that game and company, and I feel for those who pre-order without seeing a review first.
It's such a shame for those who love a good 3D platformer – which to some extent, behind the horrendous technical issues, it still is.
Valid rant over.
Hey did anyone play Blasphemous? Is it any good?
@brunojenso Thanks for the info. I have very limited funds right now and will wait to see if it is updated before I purchase it.
@hoopderscotch Right? I wasn't expecting Daemon X Machina to do well, but this is pretty sad. It came at a busy time but also didn't score great, and I think people forget that mech games almost never review that well. DXM metascore is about on par with most Armored Core games.
@baller98 Yeah, I want to support New Super Lucky's Tale. I love the 3d world/Land style gameplay.
@Oat It's a great difficult metroidvania that oozes atmosphere and lore,it's deliciously depressing to say the least. If you like all that, i would recommend it.
BUT, i have been reading around there's some glitches on the console ports so keep that in mind. The developers did say a patch is coming, but we don't know when.
My personal low opinion aside, Fortnite and other free to download games should not be on this list. It's not remotely fair to include games that cost nothing to start alongside real games that actually cost money.
I know it's Nintendo's list, not NL's, just sharing my thoughts.

@MsJubilee Thanks for the reply, I'll be sure to check it out.
Good selection of weird and wonderful video games! As someone said above , switch gamers have good taste.
Minecraft still going strong, surely everyone had this by now?
Yooka-Laylee (2) better be near the top of the next list. It’s an absolute gem. I’m so addicted to it right now.
@brunojenso I adore the original VR one. Yeah it’s nothin’ special, but it’s very charming and the sense of presence really adds to the atmosphere. Has a great presentation too
Anyone else notice how Minecraft hasn't failed to make it to at least the top 5 spots on these lists for awhile now? Almost makes you think it deserves representation in smash...
@graysoncharles Even so, can you deny those games would have as many downloads as it does if it had a price-tag on it?
I got four of these right at the start of this month.
Cuphead's the only one I've yet to find any real time for playing.
@holygeez03 I am fully aware of the player selects line, but it is towards the end of a console life cycle before that tends to happen, much longer than other consoles and some games never do. If a game is still selling so well, why would a company reduce its price?
