Nintendo has revealed a list of the best-selling games on the Switch eShop for the month of September 2019 in Japan. Number one likely won't come as a surprise, but there's quite the mix of brand new and slightly older titles in here.
You'll find the release dates for each game in brackets; as you can see, plenty of games are new releases which we'd expect to see, but there are several which have been around since 2017 (thanks, Perfectly Nintendo):

A pretty solid mix of games there, we're sure you'll agree. Did you download any of these games last month?

Seriously, how does Human Fall Flat keep doing it in Japan? Even with sales.
Link's Awakening, Dragon Quest 11, Astral Chain, in September. Already had Fire Emblem, Smash, Mario Maker 2 and Minecraft.
I bought Link’s Awakening (physical), Dragon Quest XI (physical), Daemon x Machina (physical) and Untitled Goose Game last month.
Already owned Undertale, Astral Chain, Fire Emblem, Smash Bros, Breath of the Wild, Mario Maker and Mario Kart physically and Minecraft digitally.
Really keen for the English release of Atelier Ryza.
I tried so much to like the dragon quest demo, but I just couldnt get on with the designs of enemies (frogs with tongues out, those blue blobs - seemed at contrast to the environment)
@ozwally Isn't that the idea with Dragon Quest? To have really cool characters fighting silly looking monsters?
@ozwally I guess you have never played a Dragon Quest before, right? They are all like that, it's their style.
But believe me, if you overlook that and the OST, you'll find a master piece here.
It's my first Dragon Quest game and I can't put it down. I haven't touched a JRPG in a very long time (Grandia 2 on the Dreamcast), I was intrigued but unsure whether I'd have the time to play it. I tried the demo out and that convinced me to get it. I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
Edit: Looks like it did great opening numbers in Japan too. Well deserved!
@the_beaver @Shade_Koopa Thats right, never played before so wasnt expecting this when I fired it up. I cant argue it must be a great game due to reception it received, thats why I tried a good few times to get into the demo. I think Skyrim and Witcher 3 are more my cup of tea
Hold on. When did dragon quest monsters come out for switch in Japan?! How did I miss this?!
@Alexface September 17
@ozwally I can appreciate the art style is not for everyone. Over the decades Dragon Quest has developed a really distinctive look, so much so that if they ever did alter the look of the slimes (the blue blobs) for example then the fans would be in uproar. You raise a good point actually about whether Dragon Quest has painted itself into a corner with their simple cartoon-like designs being so synonymous. Final Fantasy has always changed and adapted its art style so that now in the age of HD they can create super detailed more 'realistic' looking characters without losing the FF identity. Dragon Quest simply cannot do that.
@Ooccoo_Jr That’s fine. Not every game needs super realistic graphics.
I grabbed Link’s Awakening, Ori and the Blind Forest, and Astral Chain.
This month I’m grabbing The Switcher 3, Darksiders 2, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and Ghostbusters Remastered.
Then my gaming budget is spent father-in-law rest of the year.
I’m waiting to see how Ghostbusters Remastered looks and performs on Switch first before I decide to go Switch or PS4. I loved the game back on my 360.
.
@Anri02 Oh I agree entirely, that's why I'm a Nintendo fan as they understand that good art design beats good graphics any day of the week.
I have the top 4, but in physical format for the first three.
@Ooccoo_Jr I think if its a long running design philisophy then they need to stick with it, otherwise it would lose it identity amongst other RPG's. I'm new to DQ so it'll just be that which is affecting my experience, for existing fans im sure they love it!
Picked up DQ XI (physical) and I am loving it. I have been a fan of the series since Dragon Warrior 1 and the nostalgia is just awesome.
Haven't done any of these via e-shop, though i got Link's awakening physical. I've been considering checking out dragon's quest 3 though due to enjoying XI on PS4. I may eventually double dip on XI on switch for the cool 2d mode.
HA! Never thought I'd see the day a Fire Emblem game outsells a MARIO game. Just shows how great Three Houses is, and how ridiculous some of hate this franchise gets. Blue Lions rule!
@DockEllisD yep it’s not exactly difficult, it’s another game where it’s all about the story and the journey...and they’re both great. Loving the art style too. Full of personality.
I would like the Dragon Quest Monsters games to be released outside of Japan.
Dead by Daylight? Well, rather you than me... Good to see Untitled Goose Game so high in Japan's charts, though.
I missed the chance to grab the Dreamer's Edition of Link's Awakening here at home but was able to preorder the superior UK version. It just arrived last Saturday and does not disappoint! That said, I'm already deep into DQXI after spending more than 10 hours on the demo, so both Zelda and Ni No Kuni (another recent arrival) will have to wait for a bit. Same for Untitled Goose Game, on the digital side, which looks like it'll be fun. I have some of the others on that list but they weren't recent purchases for me.
Goose Game only #11? I demand a recount.
@ozwally Ah gotcha. Ya like the more realistic fantasy then anime, cartoon, or fantasy fantasy. Other side of the spectrum of fantasy games.
@Shade_Koopa I’d say so. I’m really into Breath of the Wild, and that has some quirky character designs but I think DQ takes it a step too far for me
