Finally, all top 10 games for the switch!
I wouldn't call that dominating the top 10, I would call that owning the top 10!
Very interested to see how Astral Chain performs. Brand new IPs are a definite risk for developers. Some, like Splatoon, are great successes, whilst others, like ARMS, are popular with a smaller community not the majority. It will be interesting to see which category Astral Chain falls into!
Wow... Wouldn't have thought a fishing game would do so well.
@Matthew010 If Astral Chain sells as well as Arms, I think it will be a success. Arms just didn't do that well when compared to most titles that come out of Nintendo proper... but it still did better than others like Labo.
@roboshort I agree that it will be a success regardless, but it will still be interesting to see how much of a success it is.
Switch has now outsold PS4 + Pro put together. Nice. Such a difference to the Wii U years.
Keep it up Nintendo!!
@roboshort Fishing is actually really popular in Japan. Even among the younger generation.
@roboshort @Matthew010 it already doing good as it is on the eshop best selling chart in Japan for at least 3 updates now (if not more) and each update is a 2 week period, each time at a higher space
In the last update it also got into the list of Australia and probably other regions
The Israeli store doing a special event for its release so they believe it will sell good here as well
And it is wondering around the top video games related stuff in amazon between 35 up to 25 spots for couple of weeks already (and maybe more)
The hype around it is insane and the first review that comes out from famitsu put it very high (37 out of 40, 4 people who review from 1 to 10 added together, it got 10/9/9/9)
Those numbers are super high! Was there a holiday or something in Japan? And the switch owned the top 10! And the hardware sales are very high! And both Zelda and Mario Odyssey are out of the charts although I am sure they did well!
Even the Xbox brand in Japan had a relatively good week lol
Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition will hit one million physical copies long before Christmas. Those are some steady sales for Switch games, and not just first party. Fantastic all round, good for everyone.
@Tantani Cool, nice to know the pre order rate seems high. That reviee score is pretty good too!
@Matthew010 update, on Amazon it is currently number 20
Higher than Mario maker 2 (22) and fire emblem (23) madden 20 for PS4 (28) and other big name (or course it isn’t selling more than those games overall as they are games that are out for a while, but those are games with long legs so it shows strong pre order sales for new ip)
Other than that, Platinum have a big name now, and Bayonetta 2 sold above 700 thousands on the Wii U and even more on switch (I have no idea how it didn’t cracked the million on the switch yet) so this game should sale very very good
Wow, nearly 9 million Switch's sold just in Japan! And that's before the Switch Lite comes out! It's bound to go up to 100k in the first week. Amazing
Great game, already half a million sales in Japan (and this is just physical right?).
@Quarth it is just physical
Which game are you talking about?
@Tantani Sorry, the one in the headline: SMM2.
When Fire Emblem becomes more popular in the Western culture/market....
@Bizzyb Fire Emblem: Modern Warfare would never be out of the Western charts.
Fire Emblem has done decent in Japan but not as well as the 3DS entries in its heyday (3DS was a monster in Japan).
But in the west it's absolutely dominating. Probably a 4-5 million seller globally by the time the dust settles.
We need someone to spin a negative on this....hmmm.
Curious to see how the numbers change when the Lite comes out, are there people out there who were holding out for a more portable unit? Time will tell.
First of all, that's incredible to see a Switch top 10. This holiday season and 2020 are really important for the Switch. They are the only real presence in the market before new hardware from Sony and Xbox. They gotta pad those numbers and build up that user base as much as possible so their software can still compete against the new PS5 games etc.
The Fire Emblem sales seem to be quite low. Perhaps I was thinking a higher sell rate but when I think of FE, I think of Japan. The game has a very high Japanese flavour to it. Will be interested to see actual western numbers down the road.
I wonder what digital sales look like for FE 3 Houses in Japan? I'm surprised it hasn't sold better but maybe the voucher thing swayed some people to go digital?
Nintendo may sell more switches in Japan by this time next year then they sold Wii U's world wide
@Gerbwmu @Nintendofan83 I am not sure it is as low as it seems
The switch digital sales are much higher than the 3ds digital sales and it is smashing the eshop charts in Japan ever since release
I am now at 50 hours in MM2, and that is while playing other games.
Playing is fun, creating is fun. I can't say enough about this game!
taught Fire Emblem Three Houses would have done more that knowing how popular the franchise is in Japan
Wow, 10 from 10 games are Switch games!
Btw, i still scratched my head and never understand the appealing of Minecraft that came in All blockiness.
For me, i adore both Dragon Quest Builders 2 & Portal Knights than Minecraft due to their Nice 3D Cartoonish stuffs, despite both of them are still not as popular as Minecraft, but i don't mind since i prefer underdog / hidden gem games rather than overrated popular games that perfect for other peoples but not for me.
Nintendo officially own Japan now. Sony better hope the PS5 or the Final Fantasy VII remake does well.
@GrailUK Dude, I'd definitely play a Fire Emblem spin-off set in a time period with traditional military weaponry and tactics! Although that does sound a little like Valkyria Chronicles.
@AnnoyingFrenzy ...or maybe Advance Wars o.< (It's coming. I pray to my shrine every day)
@GrailUK Advance Wars, now with 15% more dragons.
@AnnoyingFrenzy Man, imagine that! Reign of Fire vibes
Nintendomination in Japan this week!
Somehow I knew Super Mario Maker 2 will be in number 1 cause its awesome..
@AlternateButtons i could play all those games in 8k on my super duper neckbeard fantasy PC for $4 five years ago...
Awesome! Japan favors handhelds, Xbox was outsold by a Vita. What about the top ten in America?
That Fishing Spirits game is gonna sell like 300,000+ copies at the rate it's going. Pretty crazy for such a game.
Tokyo Olympics 2020 sold more last week than it did during its launch week, and the actual Olympic games are still a year away. Bodes well for Mario & Sonic at the 2020 Olympics come this November.
@AlternateButtons Well, both can be true (and it can’t be a disappointing sequel if you haven’t played the first one). Recall that Super Mario Land outsold Super Mario Bros. 3. And if we’re going by sales figures alone, we would have to conclude that Fortnite is one of the greatest games of all time.
At any rate, the game selling so well is good news for all Mario Maker fans, as it only increases the likelihood that they release DLC including additional game styles (they still need to release the Super Mario Bros. 2 theme to complete the Original Trilogy).
FETH is selling a lot on digital, which makes no sense. FETH is nearly 20gb and Mario Maker 2 is about 3 gb. I love both games though, so I'm happy both games are doing well.
Can you believe it? A HOME CONSOLE now dominates Japan!! Remember when handhelds used to be the top selling systems? Well, since Switch is a home console, not a handheld, it means home consoles are once again dominating the charts for the first time since the Famicom, before the release of Game Boy!! Never in my 51 years did I ever think a home console would be dominating a handheld loving country, but it seems Switch being a home console is doing just that! I wonder what the 3DS's successor is going to do to beat the home console Switch. Hmmm. Clearly Switch is a home console, because it's only replacing Wii U which was a home console, while 3DS a handheld, isn't, so that means there's going to be some handheld to replace it, and it's not Switch Lite, because according to Wikipedia, that's just a home console that doesn't output to a television- that sounds weird, but that is what they call it.
they need to update mario maker 2.
new world, new features, music etc.
@WiltonRoots
sorry mario, your but your master race pc is in another castle.
Dang, I only bought four (4) Switches this week. One more and I could have bumped the total to 8,722,310.
