We love a good shmup here at Nintendo Life Towers, and the upcoming Freedom Finger from Wide Right Interactive looks like a refreshing spin on the genre with the addition of melee combat. With a crazy soundtrack featuring a whole host of famous musicians and voicework from none other than Nolan North, this looks like one to watch out for.
More from the press release:
Freedom Finger sends you blasting, punching, and smashing your way across 37 levels of crazy cartoon action. Featuring a unique soundtrack including music by Red Fang, Aesop Rock, METZ, Power Trip, Com Truise, White Fence, Ty Segall, Makeup and Vanity Set, True Widow, The Radio Dept., Drab Majesty, John Maus, Vektroid, Danimal Cannon, Cleaners from Venus, and many more!
Freedom Finger features classic shmup gameplay blended with melee combat! You're flying a giant fist, so use it! Punch, toss, and smash enemies to smithereens! The unique Grab attack allows you to capture enemies; use them as a shield or wield their guns against their own comrades!
Rhythm based chaos! The music is heavily connected to the gameplay, so things like enemies, bosses, attacks, and events are synced to the music.
Fight your way through 37 handcrafted levels, spread out over 12 worlds! Each world features new enemies, power-ups, and challenges!
Freedom Fingers blasts on to the Switch on 27th September. Will you be checking this out?

Well... that is something.
This trailer was painfully unfunny, I was rolling my eyes the whole way through.
Featuring a unique soundtrack including music by no one you have ever heard of, and many others you have never heard of
@Bunkerneath
I mean, I've heard of voice actor John DiMaggio. I like this work.
At the start of the stream, I was goofing around saying I want a game where you play as a big hand. I'm off to play the lottery.
They don't do a great job of explaining how the music is linked to the gameplay. Do I have to keep time, like an actual rhythm action game? Or does it just sort of happen without me while I keep blasting away regardless?
Article needs more Yellow Submarine.
Looks kinda cool. They should release rhythm paradise for switch. I aced that game on wii
@Bunkerneath I know two of the bands/musicians/whatever. What do I win??
Am I the only one who knows and loves the work of Aesop Rock?
This immediately reeked of Rick and Morty creators, but I looked it up and I was close... It's being developed by the creators of Sanjay and Craig...
@HMN_0 no you are not! He’s awesome and the music is one of the reasons I’m interested!
This looks like some monty python stuff here. It looks different and fun and really weird although I will admit its not funny. that doesn't stop it from being a day one for me.
@Bunkerneath Ty Segall, Com Truise, and Red Fang are pretty big, but if you dont listen to rock/electronic I could see how you might miss them. Really cool lineup overall.
From what they show in the trailer I couldn't get how music and gameplay are related. Graphics are beautiful and the soundtrack seemed very good, though
This is the kind of crude humor I liked in middle school and don't look back fondly on. But that's fine, it's just not for me.
Looks rubbish I will stick to my retro shooters thanks👍🏻
@Bunkerneath You never heard of Bender or Nathan Drake?
@brandonbwii Bender is the robot from Futurama right? But never heard of Nathan Drake.
@bunkerneath Bender is voiced by John DiMaggio and Nathan is from Uncharted voiced by Nolan North. The other actors I admit I never heard of though.
