UK chart data is now in for the week ending 8th June, revealing that Nintendo's titles have struggled to keep up with PlayStation's Days of Play sales.
Despite its absence at E3 this year, Sony has slashed prices and introduced money-saving bundles during the event. This sale has seen a healthy number of PS4 exclusives jump right to the very top of the charts.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the highest charting Switch exclusive this week, drifting into eight place, while brand new 3DS exclusive Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth enters in 18th.
Here's a look at this week's top twenty all formats chart:

Pretty sure we'll see Mario Kart 8 and Smash linger on these lists for years to come.
But if Nintendo doesn't have many hype-building first party games being announced tomorrow, then be prepared to see Mariokart and Smash surrounded on the charts by PS4 dominated titles for the foreseeable future.
I picked up Spiderman on Friday. What a fun game! Loving it so far!
@NESlover85 Agreed, it's great fun. So hard to put down until you've done everything. Can't wait for a sequel!
Where’s Nintendo’s ‘days of play’ or E3 sale?
After the stock screw up of Koch Media with Etrian Odyssey V and Nexus, plus the super low EU stock of the Persona Q it was good I pre-order Q2 at my regular store, again the stocks are almost non existent and some shops in EU didn't get the game at all.
Meanwhile Q2 and the other games are widely available in the US (and thus way cheaper) not to mention Q2 got a LE over there too.
Enough of my rant, Q2 is 3ds it's last (physical) swan song, fun game if you want a Etrian Odyssey style games with Persona cast in it.
(and after tonight Vita will follow)
@Dman10 I've read there's a European sale starting "19.00 CEST on 11th June and running until 23.59 (local time) on 18th June".
Nintendo don’t do bargains.
@Desrever
Nintendo has a pretty strong lineup of 2019 games that will be in the charts for quite some time, starting with Mario Maker 2 and ending with Pokemon Sword/Shield or Animal Crossing.
The UK has never been a Nintendo country to begin with so I'm not even in the slightest surprised by these sales.
I got SpiderMan for $19.99 on Amazon (Replacing AC:O as my open world game). I skipped it - and went with With Dragon Quest XI and Xeno 2:Torna that September
I picked up the DLC Pack also to take advantage of the SALE. I'll be playing this for a while.
@NESlover85 So did I!... only a few hrs in but Lots of fun (and I am not really a SpiderMan fan)
"Spider Cop" narrator 😂😂
Somebody show this to Nintendo.
Oh wait, it's the UK, don't bother.
Id' be willing to forego actual Switch game sales for 30% off for 300 Gold Coins on MyNintnedo. Somebody show MyNintnedo to Nintendo as well. I have 161 gold coins expiring at the end of June.
Yay! Anthem got some sales... I keep hearing that EAware needs them. (I'm not being sarcastic.)
Just waiting on the Nintendo sales to go live tomorrow....
@westman98 Yeah, I'll concede my point on that one. Mario Marker will do great, but probably won't stay on the charts for long, but Pokemon can hold it's place like super glue and Velcro, and probably Animal Crossing too.
With all the games out currently, the Switch is already a must-buy console and cemented its place as a hit. From here it's either going to coast on it's evergreen titles through the PS5/Scarlet launch, or the hype train is going to keep building momentum and hold its own as a handheld. Pokemon can definitely push some console sales for the holiday, but after that it's a little less certain. We'll see what's in store tomorrow, though. It's really 50/50 until we know for sure.
I ended up buying Final Fantasy IX an X/X2 Remastered with the Days of Play sale. Since Thursday is payday I want to either get Kingdom Hearts or more Final Fantasy.
@Desrever - It's a sale, likely a lot will dip back out in lieu of other new releases.
It's also UK, which Nintendo has had a hard time getting a good foothold in.
I’m happy to see Persona Q2 chart, great game
@Desrever
I cant see Mario Maker 2 performing worse than NSMBU DX, which is still charting quite strongly.
Wait till Nintendo announces a new DLC character (available after the direct) smash immediately takes nr1 (without sale)
@Indominus_B Move FIFA for Madden and US/UK best selling charts are more or less the usual suspects at the top by end of year.
Also, UK has more than twice the population of Texas.
@Indominus_B The UK has a rich history of video games and formats, the whole 'Nintendo saved video games' does not apply here. The 8-bit micros were big into the early 90s, as was the Amiga. SEGA were also really popular up until their 'cool' image was picked up by the PS1. The Xbox and 360 also did well. Nintendo just cant trade on nostalgia to the extent they can in the US.
@Agramonte was a good time to renew PS + too...
@Dman10 Nintendo has no idea what a sale is lol. They just discount the same games over an over an call it a sale.
Im a Nintendo fan through and through but my god was God Of War an outstanding game.
Fully understand why it won goty last year.
Don't understand at all how it isn't on this list.
I live in europe and i dont understand why there is only the uk chart...europe is more than uk....uk is a tiny PlayStation country. Can we have please a EU chart?
@Agramonte Spider Cop is hilarious!!!!
@JohnnyC I've barely played the story so far. Having too much fun swinging through the city!
Hard to pass up Spider-man for $20...
@Indominus_B Nintendo absolutely markets to nostalgia.
@Indominus_B Oh - na man, no offense (My girl and I just travel to UK for work - London/Manchester - We live in NY). Just pointing out charts are more or less the same. And they have a decent buying power.
But yeah, US is massive - Japan mostly fits in California!
More people would want that Persona game if the first game wasn't so expensive used these days due to the series getting more popular due to the fifth game.
@Indominus_B No one is saying that Nintendo is only successful due to nostalgia. But to say they don't leverage it is asinine. NES/SNES classics, VC, nostaliga segments in Mario Odyssey (including an entire world dedicated to it), etc.
@Indominus_B @Agramonte I would say that you're both wrong. A lot of people aren't gamers, they buy on sheepish behaviour and what is marketed, simple trends among the populace that want to be like others. Ps4 here IS the popular console and when one of the group of football loving, club going males buys it, they all do. As for the real gamers here like me, we go for quality which is why I own a Switch and only just recently got a cheap ps4 for the exclusives. Nintendo has, however, tackled the younger generation and a lot of the gen pop are now buying a Switch for their children, hence the popular games remaining popular here. It is also another case of one child owns it, the others will get one.
@Jayofmaya this is more or less the reason why so many of my friends own a PS4 with like 2 games.
They got it because in 2014 during the world cup, my friends Gary and James decided to do a tournament on Fifa and the rest of my mates ended up getting the console because we had a good time with it, i can't actually play football games so i never played but i was there watching the world cup and doing colour commentary on my friends Fifa matches.
Off the back of that one experience the rest of my friends got the ps4, with 2 or 3 games and one of those games was defo Fifa.
When i got my Switch we all had a Mario Kart tournament on it and off the back of that both Gary and James got the Switch and to this day they both only own Mario Kart.
This really gives anyone reading this a true glimpse into the gaming habits here in the UK... there are actually not many real gamers like us here in the UK lol.
@Razer Ahaha sorry, I just find it funny that they both have a 280 quid piece of hardware for ONE game. That's insane.
On a serious note, I like playing Fifa with my friends too, 2 of my friends are big fans and it's fun for a while now and then, you should give it a go, even if you're rubbish, it's a laugh.
I guess they probably lead busy lives, though, can't expect everyone to switch on a console for a few hours every night before bed. Haha
@Indominus_B Nostalgia is a big part of why I like games like Mario Maker, or Sonic. But, what Im saying to you, is Nintendo lean on their past a good deal, its part of how they sell their brand (classic mini, NES app and so on). In the UK, there is less significance to that history, as there were far more alternatives. For example, the NES is less important to many retro folk than the Spectrum or C64.
@Jayofmaya Na, seeing how The Nintendo release schedule (outside 1st party) the last 2 years has been a parade of reasons why gamers been buying a PlayStation for 3 generations. That argument does not hold any water.
Reading how "No reason to buy a PS4" and then have people gush over HellBlade or an Indie that has been on it for years makes no sense.
PS4 is a safe bet - why it is popular. Regardless what you like, you know you will get it. VR, Sports, Racing, OpenWorld, Online Shooters, FPS, F2P, indies, RPGs... it will be there on day1.
You supplement with a Nintendo hardware to play Nintendo games and you set.
@Agramonte
Great game. I’m near the end but I’ll be getting the dlc.
@Indominus_B Sorry but it's not "tiny", it's around about the 20th largest population in the world, don't exaggerate.
@gamer95 No, I didn't say that at all...
