UK chart data is now in for the week ending 22nd June, revealing that Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled has raced past the competition to secure a might first place.
The game generated the second highest week-one sales the franchise has ever seen in the UK, only being beaten by Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy before it, and has managed to secure the third best launch of 2019 so far, just behind Days Gone and Resident Evil 2.
It also managed a much stronger debut than Team Sonic Racing, selling more than four times as many copies in its opening week. Interestingly, though, only 16% of the game's launch sales were on Switch as opposed to Team Sonic Racing's 39%, potentially being down to Crash's original PlayStation exclusivity and a larger fanbase on Sony's platform.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:

Yeah I saw that coming. CTR is amazing.
It makes sense that it sold more on the Sony console. If you never played the original you probably wouldn't care as much for this.
CTR was always going to destroy Sonic Racing. I imagine it will have excellent legs too though not quite Mario Kart 8 levels.
It's a great game. So much content, 31 tracks a decent adventure mode and very good graphics. However, the online needs some further work even with the patch and the drift mechanic is abit off but it's a very good game.... I hope the Switch sales have legs, Crash Trilogy did very well on Switch so I would have thought it would have opened stronger on the platform....
CTR destroys Team Sonic Racing on every aspect.
I tried Sonic on Friday for the first time and Crash on Saturday and it's day and night : CTR is immediatly fun and TSR is ... interesting but not very fun.
I would've gone PS4 for CTR too, but I don't have PSGold. And I don't want to pay for more than one online membership, so I stuck with Switch. Hope the Switch online base for CTR doesn't die too fast.
How come you don’t cover Nintendo opening it’s second official store in the world later today?
@Kalmaro funnily enough I never played original properly but love this!
Tried Switch version over the weekend. Looks great in handheld and docked. Very happy.
But the game is HARD. Like, I raced my butt off on a near flawless run, only to have some CPU whiz past me at the last second (0.4 seconds faster) and 2nd place apparently isn't good enough in Adventure mode.
Really turned me off.
Sonic Racing is better imo, Mario Kart is king, but this is still fun. Provided you're ok with gut wrenching difficulty.
I was planning on waiting for it and buying it on the PS4, but the lower than standard price and the fact that, despite what I initially heard, all versions run at same 30FPS frame-rate was enough to convince me to get the Switch version.
Can't wait for it to arrive, honestly I'm more hyped to try it than Mario Maker, I loved the original CRT so much but never really got a chance to play it proper.
Well that's not a surprise.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still my best choice. 👍
CTR has some really bad track design in parts: blind corners and stopping points near water... etc.
I like both kart games, but prefer sonic racing.
@BensonUii on the eshop?
@JaxonH yeah I agree, I stick to just playing the grand Prix in CTR as the adventure is just too difficult on medium, but why doesn't it save your results?
I hope this is Enough for a Twin Sanity remaster and New game
I love Team Sonic Racing though.
@JaxonH It has very bad rubber band AI which is unfair at times.
But I still love CTR. Very underrated game
Next week is going to be very interesting, Crash Team Racing vs. Mario Maker 2. I'm going to guess Crash Team Racing wins.
Wait until Nintendo announce and release Mario Kart 9
Crash Team Racing wont last
@DoctorMarc that kinda makes no sense considering Mario Kart is for switch only.
CTR will still sell very well.
Looks like people prefer 30 FPS Kart racers...
/s
CTR launch sales are between 57,000 copies. The Switch version sold 10,000 copies.
@BensonUii I did instead, my copy of TSR should get delivered any second now OwO
Still surprised it got discounted so much so soon, can't avoid to wonder if CTR had anything to do with it...
Next step: A new Crash Bandicoot videogame, made from scratch.
Well of course the king of kart games gets number 1. Good on you Crash! Make a new game next please.
Saw it coming. British people are really in love with Crash apparently lol, it will stay in the top ten for many months.
@the_beaver as a Brit I can confirm we love Crash. Mega Man never really took off here so to us the big 4 retro heroes have always been Mario, Sonic, Pac-Man and Crash.
I'll pick it up along with my weekly copy of GTA V.
Only got "Team Sonic Racing" on Switch last week so will wait a few months before I get this unless I see it for £20 or less for some reason.
@Chayshirin weekly copies? What do you do with them all?
I give it a month before it drops off the radar for anyone but its core fanbase. Meanwhile Mario Kart will just keep on going for years to come.
Really nothing against Crash, but buying any other kart racer than Mario Kart is like buying store brand cola instead of Coca-cola. Crash should stick to brutally hard platforming games, that's where he shines more.
Why is everyone bashing Sonic?
Its a great racing expirience no its not on the same level as Mario kart, but its up there.
Im loving sonic more then im loving CTR so far.
Dont get me wrong but CTR has some real flaws in this age of gaming.
Almost impossible corners? AI thats always faster then you *yes git good i know that bull by now *
Sonic is more balanced and I really hope we get an all star racing soon
Sonic is the better game, so this is just sad to see.
See just like what I predicted last time, Team Sonic Racing may rush release date but once Crash Team Racing comes forth Team Sonic Racing is crushed. Crash games are more appealing to the UK than Sonic. Of course this is only in the UK and not all of Europe.
66% on PS4. Basically UK is for SONY what Japan is for Nintendo (so much for gamers not having time to play at home)
Also, We have 3 of these racers now - time to make 1 decent regular racing game for the rest of us. You know that "something for everyone" concept Nintendo keeps mentioning 🙄
Side Note. Zodiac Age at $35 Amazon US.
@LuciferOnReddit Just so you know not every game had to be running at 60fps to be good. As long as the game ran smoothly it's a winner in my book. The original Crash Team Racing and Mario Kart 64 both ran at 30fps and were still enjoyable to this day. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! ran at 60fps and people still prefer Mario Kart 64 over that one.
The Switch version of CTR was the second best selling unit this week, it sold more than the Xbox One version which reached third.
@quinnyboy58 I'd say you missed it but now you have this! Glad you're enjoying it
@retro_player_22 Would you prefer smooth gameplay, or 𝙎𝙢𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 gameplay?
@BensonUii So that's why on amazon they already raised TSR price up by 5€, got it there and didn't know they were matching MediaWorld's prices XD
Still TSR is getting a lot of price bash: MediaWorld, Amazon and at Gamestop the game is part of their summer promotion (which can make it around 20€ there too depending the combo of games you buy).
Played it has really bad loading times but otherwise beats Sonics poor attempt.
@JaxonH
Just watched some stuff about the rubber banding and that is off putting actually. A bit too obvious.
Well, beating Sonic nowadays isn't that hard. Back in the old days, Sonic was really one of the biggest mascots and the only one that could rival Mario. But now, he is more of a joke and a big internet meme. It seems people like Sonic more in an ironic way.
@BensonUii I know, I was just try to keep my reply short XD
Indeed Amazon raised the price of TSR cause the Mediaworld's price raised after the No-Iva weekend.
And the GameStop offer I meantioned is indeed that one, buy two-pay the cheaper 5€. Fact is that TSR is between the games' on offer and with two 40€..pardon 40.95€ games, you would pretty much pay 22.9€ each game.
“it sold more than the Xbox One version which reached third.”
CTR was always going to sell more on PS4, it’s a Playstation game. However stuff like this still amazes me. As a long term U.K. Nintendo fan the turnaround is amazing. Of course it has portability on its side which is big in a Country where so many people use public transport, and Nintendo’s portables have done well here but Switch is having so much more impact than 3DS.
Sonic Team Racing was very good but it is just that Crash is better.
I imagine the PS4 still has a rather sizable lead over te Switch in the U.K. The PS4 version better sell more.
The more noteworthy news is the Switch version outselling the Xbox One version.
@BensonUii Really?, I missed that..
Not sure if I will get CTR ...although I played the original and liked it.
Not surprising
TSR could have been so much more successful if they didn't made the dumb mistake of getting rid of all the other SEGA characters imho
Next week will be interesting. Can Crash keep up or will Mario Maker 2 knock it off of first place for at least a week?
God, that's a depressing top 10. Mostly games from scumbag publishers that treat their developers and/or customers like utter crap. Why are people buying these games?
