If you've got a copy of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and still have a code for the DLC fighter Piranha Plant, you should probably redeem it right now. After 30th June, Piranha Plant download codes – sent out to players who registered their copy of Ultimate before the end of January – can no longer be redeemed. So, if you haven't already used this code, now is your last chance.
Fortunately, it's not the end of the world if you're reading this at a later date and forgot to input your free code before it expired. It just means you'll now have to buy the DLC fighter from the Switch eShop for £4.49 / $4.99. To play as Piranha Plant you'll need to be running Version 2.0 or higher (previously released on 29th January).
The next paid DLC fighters following on from Joker include The Hero from Dragon Quest and Rare's Banjo-Kazooie. If you would like to see these characters in your game eventually, you can purchase the Fighter Pass (giving you access to all of the DLC fighters) or pay a standalone price for each one.
Did you redeem the Piranha Plant code in time? Know anyone who hasn't yet? Leave a comment below.

Could had given us a longer expiration date there, June 30th is basically just tomorrow. Even the Ouya gave us a one month notification before pulling the plug. This is not how you give notification Nintendo.
I never got my DLC even though I redeemed my code.
@retro_player_22
but they did give us notice.... Nintendo life just posted this today.
@retro_player_22 We've known for like, half a year now.
@Kalmaro I'm not talking about the expiration date, I'm talking about the notifcation. They should had notified us one month or several weeks in advance that this expiration is near. There are some people that may had forgotten about that upcoming day ya know.
I think Piranha Plant is a good fighter. Played some fights with it today, by the way. The controlled spin attack is really useful.
I just think people who received the code months ago and haven't redeemed it yet don't even like the game, so why the rush to redeem it now?
Thanks for the reminder. The code has been sitting in my email, and I never got around to redeeming it.
@retro_player_22 That's true, but ultimately the fault of the customer.
Not that reminding us wouldn't have been nice.
It looks like Nintendo first told us at or before December about the piranha plant here. (this page was put up around December 17 but the content could possibly have been changed since then)
They also sent a reminder in late January
Actually, the earliest page I could find was here
I redeemed the code the minute after it appeared in my e-mail inbox. Why would you wait for it to expire? That's just stupid.
How many dlc releases are left after the next 2 (banjo and hero)? Is it the final one or are there two more?
@AG_Awesome 2 more
@Indominus_B Why didn't you contact Nintendo? That's still something they owed you
@AG_Awesome There are a total of 5 dlc characters in the fighter pack. Joker was one. So two more.
@sanderev @Kalmaro Thanks guys!
How do you forget this kind of stuff?
@retro_player_22 the expiration date has been known since January
So I got a question, if I sell my copy of smash, will the DLC go with the game or will it be deleted if it's on a other Switch?
@retro_player_22 You know that Nintendo don’t run this website, right?
@KazooieTooie I'm pretty sure the DLC stays in the Switch's internal memory or a microSD card.
I mean, I appreciate reminders like this, but... if you have the game and care enough that you would want the character, Why on Earth haven't you redeemed it?!
Wasn't the this code given out to people who bought the game in the first month or so?
@Indominus_B Same with me.
They also did the same thing with Mewtwo when I bought the Wii U and 3DS games.
Hey thanks for reminding me! I couldn't find the code when it was emailed but ended up in my spam folder, just got the Plant in the nick of time, really appreciate it!
For those who will not use their codes, can you help a fellow gamer that want to have a code? Thank you!
@AG_Awesome
1. Joker
2. The Hero
3. Banjo-Kazooie
4. ???
5. ???
Two more to go.
Never got my code but I don't care as I haven't played Smash more than a couple hours. Wish I had purchased physical so I could sell it!
