Annual sports game releases are a staple of every video game system's library and for the Nintendo Switch, it is no different. It typically means we see slightly improved titles year after year, including new faces, team outfits, commentary and featuring more social and gameplay features than before.
With this in mind, the next entry in 2K's basketball simulation series has seemingly been confirmed for the Switch, after promotional materials for the "Legend Edition" were leaked online recently. The Nintendo version of NBA 2K20 is expected to be launched alongside the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC release on 6th September.
As already explained, sports series get updated every year, so this isn't really a spoiler prior to E3. If you do prefer to kick balls rather than throw them, perhaps you would be more interested in the next entry in EA's FIFA series, which was listed for Switch on Amazon back in May. We'll presumably get more official announcements for both of these titles very soon.
Do you purchase these annual sports releases? Are you relieved to hear you'll be able to get another basketball fix on the Switch? Leave your thoughts below.

No surprise here certainly. I never felt the need to buy a slightly updated version of any of these sports games though and admittedly I'm always surprised at how well these games do sell each year, Fifa in particular. I guess if you're enough of a fan of the sport and/or it's the only kind of game(s) you play then that's enough reason to go for it.
Gah, I can't pull the trigger on these games knowing a 'better' (if better means current players I guess) version will be released next year lol. I always wait till this is a quid in my local CEX.
Would have be nice to see a Raptors player on the cover
I'd buy NHL if EA Games would bring it over.
Need a rugby game, it would sell unbelievably well considering the upcoming world cup
A leak of a game that releases every year.
Only surprise is who's on the cover.
@Yosher @GrailUK the main game has a completely new story to play through every year.
I own 2018 & 2019 on Switch, but I haven't decided yet if I'm going to get 2020, there are a lot of other games I'm wanting to play
Probably the 199,99 game on that GameStop list. Last years NBA 2K had a 149,99€ Legend Gold Edition if I remember correctly.
If EA does not release Madden on Switch they need their heads examined.
@Agramonte @Justifier EA and releasing games on the Switch? Outside the obvious Fifa cashgrab and some minor indie titles. Not gonna happen.
Good to see Switch is getting this again. Both 2018 and 2019 were decent games....
Great. Now bring me Madden or a decent baseball game please.
NBA2k on the Switch is really good. So yeah, the yearly releases that have been happening since the beginning of time is not something to shake your cane at.
Also, there would be 7 articles about how it isn't coming to Switch if that were the case. So, I question the journalism here. Why was FIFA even mentioned? You gonna mention Sonic too?
Do better, NintendoLife. Please.
2k better not be cheap on putting half of the game on cartridge and the other downloadable they need to used the 32gb cartridge.
I’ve played 2K since the Dreamcast started it...I’ve bought the past 2 on switch and I really prefer it this way. It’s just so nice to be able to play if someone else needs the tv. I liked 2K18 a lot more than 19...but 19 had a better story.
@Justifier The Switch can't even handle Fortnite. So not asking for their top AAA games. I have a PC/PS4 for that.
Madden as a "cash grab" in the US will be more lucrative than the 4% sales FIFA gets in the UK. And honestly, easier to make. Half the game is turn based and QTE, smaller roster to maintain and no yearly global events like champion league to deal with.
And i take Sea of Solitude over another broken old port like Blades of Time or AC3 any day of the week.
Waiting on that madden 2020 leak.........
Only thing this system lacks is good sports titles. Would kill a stranger for NHL20 on the go. It would complete me. Wouldn't say no to NFL or baseball either.
@BANJO forget about a baseball sim. nobody outside of SIE San Diego Studio wants to develop a baseball simulator.
@GrailUK That’s why you buy them every other year. The only real reason to buy it consistently is shifting playerbases and even then there’s enough in the old version to keep you playing.
You think anyone is ever genuinely surprised by these?
Bought last year. Won’t buy another version. Hopefully probably not but would love to see live return to Nintendo consoles.
@Justifier Yes, please! NHL for Switch!
@kobashi100 The Switch needs a good baseball game your right... RBI 2019 is ok, but not really worth getting..... I would take a Mario Sluggers game at this point!!
@SKTTR I was thinking the same thing
I've put in more than 550 hours each on 2k18 and 2k19 for the Switch. Great games done well. The fps difference between Switch and XBONE/PS4 is noticeable but being able to play anywhere brings it up to par.
@Yosher they actually did a good job between fifa18 and 19 on switch in my opinion, maybe not work £50, but i was persuaded to part with £30 on offer and have not regretted it.
I don't however do anything with ultimate team..
EA are leaving all kinds of cash on the table, if i were them, id be looking to use that workable switch fifa engine to make NHL, MADDEN, NBA and GOLF.
its almost like they hate money. big business baffles me sometimes.
Also SEGA i feel are in the same boat, where is my monkey ball, jet set radio, sega rally, virtual on, daytona usa, panzer dragoon, manx tt, SHENMUE, nights.
The list of IP left on the floor is baffling.
