Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix lead designer David Sirlin is releasing his own fighting game – Fantasy Strike – on 25th July on the Switch eShop and multiple other platforms. The game will be priced at $29.99 USD / €32.99 / £28.99. We last heard about this title during the Nindies Showcase in March 2018.
This fighter is set in a world where "fantasy meets martial arts" and promises to cater to hardcore fans of the genre as well as newcomers. It features an arcade mode, a boss rush mode, ranked mode (featuring tournaments and 3-on-3 team battles), four survival modes, a daily challenge mode and the usual local and online versus – including GGPO networking technology, for a "fast and responsive" experience online. This is what Sirlin had to say about it:
“Online play is so important to fighting games that we’re trying to push the genre forward here. Part of that is on our technical implementation of networking which somehow allows me, in California, to play my friend in Tokyo and have it feel totally responsive and smooth. The other part is modernizing the genre conventions for user interface so it’s just a single click to challenge a friend online and a single click to watch any friend’s match."
Fantasy Strike will also include a number of innovations, "never seen" in any other fighting game before. Here's more information, directly from the PR:
A visual display of “frame advantage.” These graphical effects communicate which player will recover first after every hit and in how much time. Fantasy Strike also goes the extra mile to get everyone thinking strategically by including, inside the game itself, in-depth tutorial videos for all ten characters narrated by game director David Sirlin.

I.... I totally never expected this game to reach release, to be honest.
Looks a little slow but well featured. I’ll give it a go. I am totally maining the lady in the pride outfit.
Not a huge fighting game fan but this has me interested.
This game looks so gosh dang good.
Fighters have been so booooring for so long. Even Street Fighter has fallen from glory.
This game just... it reminds me of Street Fighter II in the best possible way. It reminds me of a different time when fighting games were exciting with cool characters and immaculate gameplay.
Been interested in this for while. The speed seems slow to me, but I will check out the reviews when it comes out. It's been in early access on Steam for quite a while, so they have had a lot of time to work out the kinks and add features.
@Ryu_Niiyama Not every rainbow colored dress is for Pride, but I will be maining her too. She's so beautiful!
Looks like an interesting fighting game, if the game ever became a hit franchise like Bloody Roar, Eternal Champions, Skullgirls, and ClayFighter then I'm looking forward to how it would evolve its fighting mechanics.
I would probably bite at $15 since I don't like traditional fighting games too much, but this does look pretty decent. If a sale hits, I will buy.
This looks amazing. Don't let the speed put you off, been some brilliant slower paced fighters in the past.
Gonna have to go on the backburner for me though. Too many games this year!
Besides the slow paced this looks amazing, this goes back to the glory days, deffinley will pick this up.
@Dakotastomp It is for me, which is why I take pride when I see my colors. Have a great day!
@Ryu_Niiyama The more you know logo appears Ok then. Good to know. And you do the same.
As someone who has been playing this for the past 3 years on PC, I can whole-heartedly recommend Fantasy Strike. It is everything it promises to be and more. It is how I've gotten my friends into fighting games. $30 is a great price for a game that's had so much love, dedication, testing and community effort put into it.
Jeeeeeeezus, FINALLY!!! Been lookin' forwad to this game since its announcement!
@Paraka
Same, but glad it did!
I personally prefer slower paced fighters, so this looks quite interesting to me.
Meh ... Doesn't looks that good to me, but I guess I'll still check this out when it'll come out, just out of curiosity
Hmmm this or that crazy fighting game where you play as gods???
This does look good though.
FINALLY! I feel like I had this game on my calendar for last summer. That price is a rough pill to swallow, but I'm really interested as a big fan of Sirlin.
@davismv-mon It's really a fundamental based fighter and exposes so much of what is important to every fighter - including Smash and MK. If you look at it as way to get better at fighting games in general, maybe take another look through that lens.
