Pre-orders for Dragon Quest Builders 2 have now gone live on the European Switch eShop, and Nintendo has shared more details surrounding the game's future content.
As we already know, the game will launch on 12th July. It will receive one free DLC pack as well as three paid DLC packs after launch, with the first two of these coming just a couple of weeks after release on 26th July. Each of the paid packs can be purchased separately or together in a Season Pass available for £18.99.
The packs are said to "offer various content such as new locations in the game, additional recipes, new quests and a variety of customisable options like clothes and hairstyles". We've got all the info you'll need below:
Hotto Stuff Pack (Release date: 26th July / Price: €5.99): This pack includes more than 40 recipes to design and decorate structures that look similar to the Hotto Steppe – a popular resting area in a distant land where weary visitors can take a break from their travels. Players will also get access to an additional island to gather the materials they’ll need to build these recipes.
Aquarium Pack (Release date: 2nd August / Price €9.99): Check the mailbox on the Isle of Awakening to discover a fishing island with a net full of quests and characters to meet. Learn how to catch 40 different fish that can be added to a DIY aquarium. Unlock the fishing rod as well as customisation options, including swimwear, straw hats and a ponytail hairstyle.
Modernist Pack (Release date: 9th August / Price: €9.99): This pack includes more than 70 different recipes to construct modern-looking structures, or change hairstyles and clothing. Players can take their architectural skills to the next level by building a fashionable luxury hotel.
Knickknack Pack (Release date: 26th July / Price: Free): This free pack includes three recipes to create a Pretty Paddle, Celebratory Soup and Ornate Adornment so players can celebrate every New Year with some Hotto flair.
We've had a quick gander on the eShop and found a variety of purchase options. You can pre-order the main game for £49.99 and grab the Season Pass separately for £18.99, or you can buy a digital bundle which contains all of that content for £71.99. Buying both separately actually works out cheaper at present, so we're not sure what's going on there.
Still, if you're hoping to buy a digital copy of the game, it's all available right now at the click of a button.
Are you excited for this one? Will you be grabbing the Season Pass, or are you only wanting the base game? Tell us below.

not dqxi, don't care
Yes, yes and more yes, loved the first game and cannot wait to play this one.
One of my most anticipated games of the year.
I'm worried how much this DLC detracts from the core game, it feels like they're selling off substantial chunks of the core game at an inflated premium, possibly to offset the inevitably price drops of the physical release.
You can get Dragon Quest Builders 1 for pretty cheap lately.
@RupeeClock you mean incase some one decided to wait for a sale instead of day one?
@DarkLloyd
Basically yeah.
It feels like you aren't buying the full game on the game card, you have to buy the remaining DLC to get the full experience.
@RupeeClock
The DLC packs contain items you cannot receive through in-game progress. They're primarily decorative items that cannot be obtained by any other means, as well as a handful of joke weapons/outfits like the Slime Stick that basically perform or protect from minimal damage when used by the main character.
Also, these items can only be used on the story hub island, and don't impact the progress of the game in any way.
The first game was fun for a while but I was a bit drained by the end of chapter two and never went back to finish it. Kinda looking forward to this one as it looks like it builds pretty well on the first one, but the DLC is admittedly a little off-putting. Probably pushes this one onto the maybe pile.
@mjhopkins81
Ah, so it's no different from cosmetic or texture packs like you might see in Minecraft then, that's fine.
Is the Hotto Pack = Japanese stuffs ?
I still curious with Modernist Pack, will it have some electronic tools / stuffs, cars, modern building stuffs, etc ?
Anyway, i cannot wait to play DQB 2 on my Switch. 😃
That game has impressed me with score 95 from 100 so far.
@RupeeClock That's correct.
The Knickknack and Hotto Packs are Japanese New Year-themed and Japanese Architecture-themed, respectively, while the Aquarium Pack lets you build an aquarium, fill it with fish, and create glass structures through which you can see water (which requires a textures update when the pack releases). The Modernist pack lets you build what look like skyscrapers and museums, rather than Dragon Quest-specific thematic designs (Medieval, Desert, Cabin, Pyramid, et cetera).
Essentially, the native blocks you can find in the game are all based off of existing Dragon Quest imagery (specifically based on Dragon Quest II); the DLC packs provide "newer" options for people who want to create more modern looking designs in the hub island (from which you launch to other islands - story islands and harvesting islands where you gather raw materials/blocks that can all be found in-game, with a handful of items specific to each harvesting island - the Desert-themed island has a sunflower plant).
Hope that's helpful.
Is this game part if the Nintendo Voucher program? The first one is if I remember correctly.
Dammit, looks like I'll be spending even more money on the game. Not often DLC packs/Season passes interest me, but I so loved the first DQ Builders and I've had the second on pre-order for a while now, so I'll absolutely be paying for the extra stuff lol.
I loved the first game. Hope to see the physical version on sale very soon.
@mjhopkins81
Wait, is Modernist Pack has been released for Japanese version lately ?
Is there any electronic stuffs such as TV / Stereo / any electronic tools ?
I'll wait to get a better sense as to what proportion of the experience I want to have is locked behind the DLC.
Maybe a deluxe edition will get released subsequently with it all on if it's really worth having.
Guys!!
Live Presentation about modern Pack is Right now!
@aznable you don't have to announce that you don't care about something. Just don't reply and that gets the message across.
@WomboCombo Yes, quite frequently. I love Nintendo, the Switch and a wide range of different games (especially indie games) and would generally consider myself to be pretty positive.
@Alex78 I hope the irony of that reply isn't lost on you
Sold. So hyped for this game and I cannot wait to buy it.
The bundle actually costs more? What gives?
I really want to play this game. Never worked the will to play Minecraft but I'm sure I'd enjoy DQBuilders
I recently bought the first game and boy, it's fun! I'm playing through the story now, and looking forward to this one. Another must buy. RIP wallet.
At first I was worried, but looking at the list the DLC seems to be all Minecraft pack style theme pack stuff, not campaign related stuff. If so, that's fine. The article mentions quests, but I don't see that in the actual pack lists.
Dragon Quest Builders was a fantastic game and one of my favourites on the PS4.
The sequel will obviously be a Day One but do i play it on the Switch this time or the Ps4?
Very excited for this game, but probably won’t be buying the DLC.
Probably grab the deluxe pack. I loved DQ Builders. I'll take all the extras here
@tech7 I just tried it, YES you can use a voucher on Dragon Quest Builders 2!!! I might use my second voucher on it. I'm also thinking I might buy 2 pair of vouchers (I already bought the first pair)
Sheesh these are some substantial DLC packs. Even a function of the game is locked behind a paywall. Shoot most RPG's have fishing already packed in Monster Hunter, Ys 8, Final Fantasy 15, Zelda, FREAKIN ANIMAL CROSSING. And Square has the balls to charge for a fishing pack, that's really lame imo.
As a fan of the series I guess I'll end up buying the DLCs, but not now. First I'll wait for confirmed information as for if some of it actually expands story and then I'll check the best price in other eShops.
@leo13 cool. Thanks for the info. I will most likely use it then also. While I usually prefer physically, time wasters like this and mario maker are an exception. And for that the voucher are a decent deal (imo)
@Yorumi i do and don't. Goldeneye and Donkey Kong 64 both launched at $70 US- adjusted for inflation, thats $130 . I'd rather have a $60 game with $10 DLC that i might not . have to get, or more likely, buy on sale half off vs games always be 130.
Kind of cheapens the whole Dragon quest Builders experience. First game didn’t have DLC and was great
The dlc sounds pretty awesome. Two new islands, quests, clothes, and recipes. Sounds pretty worth it. I'm getting the physical version though.
