Hamster's latest Arcade Archives release on Switch has been revealed, and this time we're being treated to 1987 arcade title, Buta san.
Featuring the perfectly reasonable blend of playable pig characters and explosives, the game has you picking up randomly generated bombs and attempting to blow up other pigs. Each bomb has a number which indicates the amount of time it'll take to explode (10 equates to ten seconds, for example) but they can also cause immediate damage with a direct hit.
Here's some PR:
‘Buta san’ is an action game that was released from JALECO in 1987. Players try to survive while throwing timebombs at each other. Can you survive the gauntlet of 100 fellow pigs to become the champion Pig? In this title, two players can play together to help or hamper each other.
Buta san will be available on Switch from today, 16th May, with the usual Arcade Archives pricing of $7.99 / €6.99 / £6.29.
Will you be giving this one a try? Let us know down below.

All I can hear is "makin' bacon".
I just wonder how well these sell at a price point of $7.99 / €6.99 / £6.29.. Honestly I can only imagine people paying that price for the biggest/most nostalgic old school titles like Donkey Kong or Mario. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong
@Cissero I'd say nostalgia or curiosity. I personally wouldn't pay a penny for an old game I never played nor heard of.
I love this their so darn cute! (Cough) I mean my wife thinks this game is so cute.
@Rhaoulos Couldn't agree more. If it's not free, I don't feel enticed to try it out. Then I'd rather spend that money on a new release.
I know which one I’d rather play with.
The original Fortnite/bomberman/tokyo pig.
@Cissero
That's a very condescending tone. Give it to me free or don't bother. It may end up being a great game it's not like when the game first released in the arcade you might be hard pressed to find a decent review unlike today you have multiple sources for reviews. Some of us want to have our money's worth and have uncumbered access to games we purchase rather than waste money on yearly subs that you stand to lose should say your internet connection go out.
I remember his came out on 8bit computers in the late 80s as Psycho Pigs UXB, along with a fairly gratuitous advert.
Never tried it back in the day, might give it a try now.
@Cissero I just buy them on other eShops in order to noticeably decrease the price. But yes, they're not selling well. In the most downloaded games list that comes out every now and then you'll only see VS. Super Mario Bros.
But I think it's funny how people doesn't like this price for arcade versions usually unavailable anywhere else, and at the same time demands (yes, demands) the arrival of the Virtual Console so they can pay that price for individual and previously often re-released console titles.
After we're all done playing, we can have bacon!
@GameOtaku I know, and I realise the tone is condescending. You raise a valid point about the internet connection, but for me they simply don't offer enough. I don't say that they should stop producing these, all I'm saying is that you can count me out. You can purchase so many games for 7 euro's on Switch, and an arcade game like this simply doesn't offer enough.
I know releasing things for free isn't an option, but a bundle like the Nintendo Online Service works much better. You pay for access to the collection, and you get access to a ton of oldschool games. Here I actually would be enticed to try it out.
I would personally buy a collection pack for 25 euro's~, play the games I bought it for (e.g. mario and donkey kong), and try out the others available in the pack (e.g. this game).
This sounds like a healthier business model for these games in comparison with their current approach.
@Moroboshi876 Yep that's indeed odd. As I just stated to GameOtaku, I would only pay for a VC if it came with all the games and a subscription/purchase fee to get access to the whole collection.
Still good effort from these guys that they put in the effort to recreate the nostalgia for some people I can only admire that as I'm a big nostalgia fan myself.
Had a lot of joy with Psycho Pigs UXB on my Amstrad CPC, but nevertheless this is a strange choice...
Nice. I've never played this before so I'll definitely pick it up.
@Cissero Compared to buying actual arcade cabinets, this is a cheap and legal alternative. However, you are not wrong, it does add up (and I have never seen them on sale).
I bought the Namco collection on sale in the eShop. For Arcade Archives, I have purchased DK 1-3, Moon Patrol, Magical Drop 3, and VS SMB. Still waiting for VS Balloon Fight.
@Tandy255 That's a nice collection And yes, that's absolutely true. I do believe there is a market for these games, I just believe that with a different revenue model the market could be so much bigger haha
@Cissero And I wish the Namco collection was more complete. If they release DLC with extra games, it will probably be paid DLC.
