In case you forgot, Bandai Namco is bringing God Eater 3 to the Switch this July. To help introduce Nintendo fans to the well-established series, its publisher will be releasing an action demo, featuring local multiplayer support.
This announcement was made during an official Japanese God Eater live stream, however, it's unclear when exactly the demo will be made available to Switch owners or if it will be downloadable in other regions. If it's not released outside of Japan, we're guessing you'll still be able to check it out with a Japanese eShop account.
The local multiplayer is one of the many unique features included in the Switch release. Apart from this, the contents within the Switch iteration will be exactly the same as the PlayStation 4 and Steam versions according to the producer Yuya Tomiyama:
“The contents of the game will be the same as the PS4 and Steam versions. In addition to this, we are adding special features unique to the Switch version, such as local co-op multiplayer.”
God Eater 3 slashes its way onto the Switch on 12th July. View the latest live stream featuring Switch game footage below:
Will you be purchasing this on release? Have you played any of the previous entries in the series? Tell us down in the comments.

I’m definitely interested, would need to try it out first. Monster hunter was a little too slow paced and boring for me. I heard it gets rid of some of the fat of monster hunter. The multiplayer looks like the best part. Also I know graphics don’t matter but I saw monster hunter as ugly, this looks a million times better.
@Bigmuc Well, Monster Hunter (on the Switch) is a 3DS port while God Eater 3 is a PS4/PC port.
You might actually like God Eater if you want a game with more story compared to MH. You should check the demo (once it's released) if you get the chance, it might be up your alley.
I still think MH does hunting better but God Eater is pretty good on it's own.
@Tokiwa thanks is it as slow as monster hunter. Monster hunter feels very slow and tedious to me. Also a god story is definitely a plus.
Day one buy for me. To any God Eater veterans, Does the anime only go over the first game, or does it go over the first game and its dlc campaign (God Eater Burst 1 or called Resurrection for remake) ?
Basically I just want to know how much story is covered by the anime, to see if I can skip Resurrection and watch the anime, so I can get to Burst 2 quicker. However, I want the full story, so if it doesn't go with burst story as well, I will play Ress too.
@Morrow Anime follows only part of the first game story, then it kinda branches a little bit. The most important part of the story of the first game is not covered in the anime
@Bigmuc God Eater feels more fast paced so you might enjoy it more than MH.
@Morrow The anime only covers like 1/3 of the first game story, let alone the Burst arc.
@Tokiwa @YessMasster Thanks, both of you! I'll play Resurrection then. I still do want to watch the anime just for comparison sake, so maybe I'll just speed through the game moments it does cover.
I thought I had Watched it but I mistook it for another anime lol. Still, it looks awesome and there`s no game like it on the Switch, so I`ll get the demo and try it out.
Yes demo please
Local co-op? As in, on a single Switch? Man, that's awesome. Really looking forward to July!
@ilikeike From what i watched on the stream, it seems to be local wireless with up to 4 players (they play together during the stream but each one on their own Switch).
@ilikeike No, local wireless connection. Multiple switches, multiple copies of the game. So if your friend owned God Eater 3, and a switch, you could play it together in the same room. It's confusing but it's not split-screen like you are thinking, sadly.
@PBandSmelly 3 gods eaten....4 goddesses in Neptune....God Eater 4 confirmed!
@Tokiwa Dang it, we already knew about local wireless since it was in the announcement trailer, so I was hoping this was something new. Oh well, I'm still hyped for the game nonetheless!
@Morrow Oh lord! God Eater/Neptunia crossover would be so gruesome!
@YessMasster Yeah, I dont think Neptune would last unless she was in constant Purple Heart form. She's too clumsy and care-free to survive a harsh world like that. I think the other goddesses like Vert and Noire could survive though. Especially Noire, she's good at tactics.
I guess I am a rare breed but I am really sick of the „anime" graphics by now. Those game just look all the same to me. Well, atleast now I know how some feel about the pixel art games...
Ya, I'll be ready.
Glad I held off on buying this a couple months ago when it released
@Vepra If you never played a jrpg before, or watched anime, I guess I could see how it could be difficult to tell differences between animation styles. However, even if to you they look the same, trust me when I say that each Jrpg series (or game if it doesnt have a series) has its own unique story and gameplay. Sure, there are bad Jrpgs, just like any other genre. However, playing recommendations from long time Jrpg gamers could be a way to start into them.
I also am one of those people who hate most most pixel based games. (90's kid) The only pixel games I love are Azure Striker Gunvolt, Gunvolt Burst, and I know I will love Candence of Hyrule when that releases. Really Gunvolt is the only pixel based game I really find amazing. The reason is that modern games (to me anyway) have demolished their older titles in the series. A Link Between Worlds I like more than A Link to The Past---Wind Waker and Twilight Princess I like more than any of the retro zeldas(though I still love OoT and MM) ----Donkey Kong Country Returns I like more than the classical DKC---exc.
Better than Monster Hunter. I'll try it
@Vepra They really don't. Comparing Persona 5 to Tales of Vesperia to Dragon Ball Fighterz; they are all completely and uniquely visually different. I'm not sure how anyone can make that claim.
Though I also find pixel platformers exceedingly lazy and uninteresting in the visuals department, I don't think they all look the same
Looks more fun than MH.
Wonder how co op is.
I know people complain that all western games look the same, but the same could be said for a lot of Japanese games. This could be at least a half dozen other titles I've seen before.
Hope it turns out ok. God Eater 2: Rage Burst was decent on VITA.
But no, every platform where people have a choice - Most go with Monster Hunter.
When Monster Hunter: World came to PS4 it crushed God Eater 3. Basically outsold all of them combined.
I'm a monster hunter vet......will it appeal? Yes...online co-op takedowns yes...voice chat?
a demo nice i think every game should have a demo
This is a must for me when it comes out. I love God Eater and Monster Hunter! Great games to play alone or with friends. Each one has their strong points so I'm just happy if I can play the latest iteration without worrying about my (crappy) laptop specs.
I can put hundreds of hours in any of those without realizing it, so I'll be downloading the demo when it happens to see how it feels compared to the other 2 in the series.
I hope this one feels less shallow then the first 2. Cause geez they where boring.
@Morrow So I'm familiar with the series and actually got in because of the anime. So the anime only roughly covers the first 1/3 (if that) of the 1st game aka Resurrection. But it's more just a different retelling of that part anyways.
I recommend playing through Resurrection and then Rage Burst and it's postgame story (basically a second campaign with its length and intensity)
@Agramonte I just played some of the God Eater 3 demo and it seems more action packed and you move a lot better. I can't get into MH though.
Why do people prefer MH?
@Trajan yeah it is faster and flashy. At least 2... I got burned out at that point. It rewards you pretty often and a story line moving along- so you Kept motivated. I also feel it is more solo play friendly.
Well I think you get 100 answers on that one. For me it is about the hunt and co-op. And just Find what you hunt, and how that hunt plays out is more my style in MH. I also really like the Events in MH:W.
But again, I found GE2 ok on VITA. And for what I understand GE3 looks and plays better. I am sure they will announce another MH for Switch sooner or later. - So good you now have choices on Switch.
@FELord Thanks for the tip
@Trajan Monster Hunter is more simplistic, and some people are attracted to it's base system value. You are a Hunter, killing monsters to save villagers and make some coin. You aren't some super powered hero in Monster Hunter, unlike how in God Eater you have super strength, faster reflexes, and better recovery than average humans. In Monster Hunter, you char is only as good as the weapons and armor he/she has. Don't have good gear? Going to be a lot more hell on your fights with the tougher Monsters. It's a mix between skill, timing, and weapon farming. With how much you can do in the game, it really does give you that simulation of being a Hunter, finding your own way to hunt.
I love both Monster Hunter and God Eater. They have similarities, but I think they are both good in their own right. God Eater is better for faster action and more story, while Monster Hunter is better for the simulation of being a warrior. Least, that's how I see it.
@Lord 8 person co-op online or local wireless. Voice Chat will most likely be supported.
@SakurabaNeku Godspeed God Eaters! omo/
I'm hyped to see how in depth this char creation is for 3.
@rhyeee3216 Yes, yes, and more yes. It's the best way to determine if you want a game or not. first watch a trailer, then play a demo, and then see a final gameplay trailer on release day. See how the gameplay release trailer looks in comparison to the demo. If both are good, it's a solid purchase.
@Trajan What do you want to know about it?
@Morrow @Agramonte Thanks guys. I played through the demo last night. The online section couldn't find anyone so I played with bots and got destroyed. Seems like a fun game, but probably not my style.
@Trajan Oh, ok. A bit more fun when you playing co-op. But yeah not for everyone. @Morrow pretty much nailed it (at least for me) on the pull for either MH or GE.
Glad Nintendo base now has the option for both.
@Trajan God Eater 3 demo for Switch? Where did you play it?
@Morrow No I played the demo on PS4.
@Trajan Oh, ok. Well, that's why you can't find anyone online, lol. The ps4 version got swamped behind all the bigger games that came out, and the Anthem controversy. Literally I saw many ps4 users say "wait, God Eater 3 came out?" and "There is a third one?". Quite a few people that would have bought it, didn't even know it existed, because it wasn't being talked about, because of all the bigger games.
@Agramonte Thanks, lol
@Bigmuc Did you ever try Monster Hunter World? Or did you only play Generations Ultimate? Cause I hated the way Generations Ultimate played after I played world. I personally couldn't get over the quality of life improvements world made.
In addition, if you tried world and are looking for faster paced gameplay I would recommend the insect glaive. I find Monster Hunter awfully boring without using that weapon, flying through the air with a little bug buddy on your arm (I named mine Friction and Aura). It's kind of crazy how depending on the weapon you use the difference in the actual gameplay. I main the bow and insect glaive and I swear the moment I pick up the bow I feel like I am playing Horizon Zero Dawn.
@Morrow I also feel like this game never got any type of marketing budget, I only knew about this because I was hype on monster hunter at the moment!
@Chunkboi79 It never had much of a marketing budget to begin with, even on Ps4. Although they are marketing better on Switch, since it even got a TV commercial.
It has a similar style to MH, but it plays a lot differently too. It is much more story driven, much more fast paced combat, better char creation, and more weapon options.
If you like MH, you'll love GE. Just don't expect it to play the same.
@Morrow I tried the demo and loved it, I appreciate the different take on this game too. I hated most of the slow weapons in MHW so I stuck with the insect glaive. Honestly I love the way the insect glaive worked from mobility (since everything was actually pretty slow) and my kinsects (which I named Friction and Aura). So it looks like GE will be a smashing good time! I have always liked the fighting in DMC, Bayonetta, and Nier Automata so this game might be more of a fit for me!
@Chunkboi79 Heh, smashing good time. Nice pun xD
Good picks on games though! You have a good taste for action games.
Also, if you want fast weapons in Monster Hunter, other good options is Sword and Shield and Dual Swords. Those are the most speed paced weapons in the series.
@Morrow Thanks mate! Yeah, this is a game I've been looking forward to for awhile. I have been playing Dauntless and MHW for awhile now but my wife hasnt had the opportunity to try out a monster hunter type game so I am hoping this is a good introduction to the monster hunter type experience
@Chunkboi79 Is she better at fast paced games, or in depth games? That would determine best which series you should start her with first between God Eater and Monster Hunter.
@Morrow the most indepth games she's been exposed to are smash bros and stardew valley lol.
@Chunkboi79 You might want to start her off with Monster Hunter then. God Eater is way more fast paced than MH. She could use a bow in MH until she got used to it. That way she could be far away from monsters. MH may be more in depth, but God Eater relies much more on quick reflexes and knowing where to dodge, exc
@Morrow She's actually not terrible at the combat aspect of these types of games. I forgot to mention that she has dabbled in some devil may cry and Nier but only off and on when i took a break playing them. I feel that it would be the crafting and inventory management part of monster hunter that she would downright get annoyed with lol
@Chunkboi79 Ah, I see. There is crafting and inventory in GE, but it's much more forgiving than Monster Hunter. RNG is B*TCH in MH.
@Morrow I felt that comment on a spiritual level XD
