If you're a regular visitor to Nintendo Life, you probably don't need us to tell you just how beautiful Super Mario Odyssey is. Featuring multiple Kingdoms, each home to their own distinct aesthetic, this game is up there with the prettiest on Switch, and this book aims to show it off in style.
The book, called 'The Art of Super Mario Odyssey' is said to feature "concept art, preliminary sketches, and notes from the development team, plus insight into some early ideas that didn’t make it into the game itself" according to a press release from publisher Dark Horse. You can see the cover in full below.
It's actually been out in Japan for some time now and, just a few months ago, photos of the book surfaced online showing an official Bowsette-like concept (remember her?). It's lovely to see it come over to the west, though, and will no doubt be a glorious addition to any Mario fan's collection.
Polygon notes that The Art of Super Mario Odyssey will be launching in North America on 22nd October, scheduled to release with pricing set at $49.99.
Will you be picking this up later in the year? Do you like learning more about the development of your favourite games? Tell us below.

Definitely buying! Odyssey was the first 3d Mario game to give me the same amazing feeling since Mario 64 back in the day.
I may just get this! I seems nice.
Not many details but definitely interesting.
Cool, can we have DLC now please?
amaaazing.. but so expensive! odyssey is a masterpiece...
@ShadJV for me is DLC confirmed
Maybe in E3
@Venus_Adept who/where is the source? your cousin that works at Nintendo? with all this time waiting, I rather have a mario odyssey 2.. same way i'm waiting for a DLC to mario party. I could pay it for...
@Venus_Adept doubt it. It’s been so long after launch, if anything they’re more likely working on a sequel... which isn’t bad but Galaxy 2 never lived up to Galaxy, I just want more kingdoms to the SAME world.
Plus I feel like they’re gonna focus on MM2 for awhile.
Cool book! I want it, kind of seems like that mario maker book you got if you got the physical version.
Dark Horse has developed a good relationship with Nintendo this last decade it feels like.
Four Zelda books, one Splatoon and now a Mario one.
I know there's also an artbook for Splatoon 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in Japan. I'm curious if Dark Horse will also release the English versions of those.
$49.99 for a (likely) smyth-sewn, hardcover, full color, gloss-paged, illustrated, large-format book is not expensive. Try making one.
EDIT: Sorry, that sounds snarky, my other hobby after gaming is book and comic book collecting, and much like physical Nintendo games, most quality books retain their value.
@SockJones oh I agree, I have a few Pixar artbooks and they were anywhere from 30-50 dollars, but all worth it.
@rex_rex it was a personal guess or wish not a fact.
Incredibly pricy and releasing ages away, where can I sign up? Honestly I’d buy it for double the price.
I hope y'all hadn't forgotten about bowsette!
Yes!!!!!!!!!!
Begging on Twitter really dies makes wishes come true!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
A must-buy for Mario fans and collectors, this will all be history just as original NES is history now.
2 expensive for me, unfortunately.
