Nintendo has provided a list of the top 30 best-selling games on the Nintendo eShop for February, and there are games of all shapes and sizes dotted around the list.
The list has been posted on the Nintendo Switch news channel, distributed to users in North America (and signifying that the data is applicable specifically to that region). It notes that the ranking is "based on Nintendo eShop unit sales", which includes games of all prices (even if they're free to download) but discounts demos.
So, here's the list in full:
1. Fortnite
2. Wargroove
3. Final Fantasy IX
4. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
5. Minecraft
6. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
7. Undertale
8. Stardew Valley
9. Overcooked 2
10. Diablo III: Eternal Collection
11. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
12. Hollow Knight
13. Rocket League
14. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
15. Super Mario Party
16. NBA 2K19
17. FIFA 19
18. Warframe
19. Super Mario Odyssey
20. Human: Fall Flat
21. Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!
22. Just Dance 2019
23. Downwell
24. Arcade Archives Vs. Super Mario Bros.
25. Moonlighter
26. Robonauts
27. Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!
28. Civilization VI
29. Nine Parchments
30. Fitness Boxing
It's not really too much of a surprise to see Fortnite at the top, what with it being so immensely popular and free all at the same time, but it's nice to see a mix of huge first party games and some indie stars sitting alongside each other in the other positions.
Did you treat yourself to any of these games last month? Any surprises? Natter away in the comments.

Stardew Valley has built a home in the top 10 and plans to retire here forever
Wargroove is such an excellent game and very much deserves its spot on top of the list. Let's be real, free games like Fortnite don't really count.
Tetris 99 didn't make the list?
Go Fitness Boxing!
Of course Fortnite is top, I don't even play it
@ALinkttPresent Not enough online subscribers, I'm guessing?
@ALinkttPresent @ryancraddock I completely forgot about Tetris 99 when looking at this list but it's definitely just been omitted for some reason, despite other free games being eligible. There's no way it wouldn't be in the top 30. It's probably the real #1.
I bet Fortnite is top even when counting it as revenue, as for a "free" game its actually quite expensive for many parent's. My friends list on Facebook is full of parents complaining about the game and how it's marketed at children, with many spending upwards of £50 over time as their kids are under pressure to keep up woth their friends at school with the latest items and costumes. Frankly Epic know what they're doing and unfortunately kids are even more susceptible to this kind of monetisation
@carlos82 How are kids spending that much money at a time on Fortnite? Unless when we say kids, we mean high school aged teens who possibly are making their own money to spend and not the actual parents doing the spending
@carlos82 Sounds like a good opportunity to get the kids doing chores around the house to earn their own money to pay for their own microtransations I guess. I sure as hell wouldn't just be just staight up giving them money for that if I was a parent, haha.
@TossedLlama i don't see Half Life 3 as well.
man, Nintendo just can't give the number 3 an appeal to the crowds
Awesome to see Wargroove so high. Well deserved!
@BenAV @UmbreonsPapa I don't think it's in one go but every now and then spending on V bucks for those stupid dances and it'll quickly add up to more than a full price game. I see comments about how kids are getting vouchers for the game for Christmas, which in the long run will possibly only make it worse. Part of the problem is that many of the parents aren't gamers so don't really understand what is happening in these games and you can imagine the peer pressure felt by them to keep up with what everyone else as. It's no coincidence that this "free" game makes a ridiculous amount of money.
My son is only 2 so if not have to worry about this nonsense for a while but I'll be teaching him to play real games that aren't designed just to suck money out of you
@UmbreonsPapa Speaking from personal experience: birthday & christmas money...one of my kids has easily dumped $100 into Fortnite.
Oh wait, downwell came out???!!!
Man I need it on switch!
@carlos82 yeah. Business practices like that are super dumb. Lots of people say "well if you are going to have microtransactions just make them purely visual" and while that's a step in the right direction, they can still be abused even if just visual.
What is it with Human Fall Flat? Apart from the fact it keeps cropping up on these bestsellers lists (looking at you, Japan), I've been completely unaware of it.
As for Fortnite, my take is that anyone who spends hundreds of whatever currency on cosmetic items deserves to be poorer by several hundred dollars. It's practically Darwinian.
Otherwise, this is mostly a really solid list, full of deserving games. Which is a credit to the eShop library, really.
Glad to see FFIX on the list! Such an outstanding RPG, and an under-highlighted entry in the franchise! Hope this sends a message to Square Enix that Final Fantasy and Switch go together like Moogles and Chocobos!
Fortnite shouldn't be on this list. It's free, so it didn't really "sell".
Good to see Civ VI hanging strong. Hopefully they give us the expansions the PC got
@Aozz101x @TossedLlama. Hey, Half Life 3 and Mother 3 are just below Pikmin 4. You’re just not looking hard enough!
@UmbreonsPapa its actually one of the most common things of the modern world. Many accounts that had to be set up whether it was psn switch or live pass asked you to input your credit card. Once the kids had that and a lack of oversight all of a sudden you get huge sales.
Strange that Tetris 99 isn't on the list.
I am surprised fitness boxing is on the list. Isn't Arms better?
I got bored of Fortnite after a month or so. Is it worth going back to?
@carlos82 @Newsinz @X-blades I'm very aware some accounts ask for credit card info. I've probably been a customer on every platform at some point. I'm also aware that many of those platforms, like a Nintendo account, don't require you to keep a card tied to the account.
I also have a 5 year old who likes her iPad games (Roblox in particular ) and is well aware of Fortnite. So I know the nagging that comes with wanting us to spend money on in game items. But even with thsqings like birthday and Christmas money, me and her mom are the ones who have the final call on how that money is spent because we know you can't always count on kids to make the best decisions
So I guess the point I'm trying to make is where are these parents when these decisions are being made? To be clear , I'm not entirely against a micro transaction every once in a while. And for older kids making their own money and having some agency over it, it's another story (though I'm not against some bit of oversight there as well). But I have a hard time stomaching parents allowing their elementary and middle school aged children to go down that rabbit hole.
I hope something finally outsells Fortnite
I wonder what the list would look like if they ranked it by revenue...
@biglittlejake Fitness boxing is nothing like Arms, but also I doubt Arms sold much last month given it's almost 2 years old.
@chardir At least 3 of those games are 2 years old. There may be more. And how many were new or new on February? Not many.
Go FF9! Here goes the Fortnite hate again...
I wish Space War Arena was on that list.
@UmbreonsPapa I understand your sentiment when it comes to having the last input on what you’re children are purchasing. I’ve got to think since our kids are younger( my oldest is 4) that we’re not experiencing the same pressure as parents of older kids. I know my nephews ( 9 and 11) have easily put in hundreds into Fortnite and when I asked my brother what was up with that he said they like it, it’s all the kids talk about at school/ all the time, and since playing Fortnite was what they wanted to do they weren’t buying other games or partaking in some other entertainment activities.
Yeah, those are probably sales from V bucks and whatever you buy in Warframe. That is why Tetris 99 isn't on here, because it is actually 100% free. (Okay not really 100% free since you have to buy the service to play it.)
I hope No More Heroes 3 is still happening.
@pupypup Last I checked Downwell is only $2.99 on the Switch eShop. Also, playing it with the FlipGrip is my favorite way to enjoy the game.
@sfb yeah, its a great game! its the same price on mobile, and its great but i want to use a controller rather than the touch screen
A great, varied and encouraging list I’m happy to say.
Why is a free game even counted among this list? It is FREE. Nice to see Wargroove and Stardew Valley in the top ten though. In fact every game in the top 10 deserves its spot except Fortnite.
Isn't Warframe free to play too? It should be out of the running too.
@ALinkttPresent NSO subscription required.
@invictus4000 The hate is in abundance wherever you go, it seems.
The hell with fortnight. I just downloaded Warframe a week ago. Great game, a lot better than most AAA games in every area and you don't have to spend money to enjoy it.
Oh it has real voicechat as well!
Where's Starlink on that list? They had a sale and its an awesome, awesome game!
