Previously released across a whole bunch of platforms stretching all the way back to 2012, we knew that 2D beat-em-up Skullgirls 2nd Encore was coming to Switch after the game was announced at Anime Expo 2018 without a release window, but Skybound Games has now narrowed it down to spring this year.
Not only is it arriving digitally, but fans of the physical can find a limited edition boxset up for pre-order which will include the following goodies:
Skullgirls Encore Switch Cartridge with all previous DLC
Skullgirls Switch Controller Skin
Skullgirls Original Soundtrack, by composer Michiru Yamane, on a never-before-released 12” Vinyl Record
Although there's no fixed release date just yet, the game will be playable at PAX East in March so we imagine we'll be waiting weeks rather than months.
Will you be picking up this physical package, sticking to digital or sitting out this round? Have at 'em in the comments.

Definitely gonna get this one.
Michiru Yamane composed the tracks!? Now I've got to listen to this!
I might have to get this.
Preordered. Although the print run number isn't revealed, I doubt more than 5k-10k will be printed. Get it before it's gone.
Looks good tho I'd like to see full screen images!
If I decide to get it, I'd prefer physical over digital but not to the extent that I'm going to preorder the expensive limited edition with vinyl and Joy-Con stickers that I have no need for. Will there be a non-limited edition too or will I just be stuck with digital?
FINALLY! It's been so long since the first announcement. Double dipping.
Why can't I hold all these games?!
It's showtime!
I have the first one (i think) on steam, loved it. I'd consider this if the price is right
I have this on PS4 and I’ll think of double dipping for this one.
I'd prefer a regular physical edition without superficial goodies that just increase the price beyond reason.
I wouldn't want to overpay for that stuff.
Those long combos though and here I am happy I can pull off a 9 hitter.... Have it on Steam btw its a fun game that I remember the devs once said in a reddit AMA that Skullgirls would never be in a Nintendo console, guess you never say never huh
It's too bad Skullgirls isn't a good game.
That's right, I have an unpopular opinion on an online website. Go ahead, feed me your tears fanboys. Muahahaha!
Anyone know when the actual retail release will be? I'd rather not spend extra on this special edition, because I really just want the cart and box.
That's probably my most anticipated Switch port, since I play the Mobile version everyday – it's probably the last frontier of my mobile gaming btw...
Hopefully they will have download for the OST.
Nintendo is getting serious about the Switch fighting game library compared to the Wii U; definitely will pick this up for the 4th time (PS3, PS4, Vita cross buy).
I have the physical PSVITA version and it’s great!
Got it on Steam, getting It again. So glad it has ost in it because this game has one of my favorite osts of all time.
@dartmonkey
It's not a "brawler".
It's not a "beat-em-up".
It's a fighting game.
The distinction is very significant.
My first exposure to Skulls Girls was the mobile game... yep, that’s right... I didn’t even know this existed before that.
For a mobile game I found the aesthetics and characters to be great. I’m definitely very interested in this but not if I’m force to buy stuff I don’t want (like the vinyl and stickers) just to be able to get a physical copy.
I hope we get a demo of sorts to try it before release.
Versus games are a bit of hit-or-miss case for me, as I really enjoyed my time with the Dragonball Fighterz demo (still waiting for a complete edition for that one), but got sick of Marvel VS Capcom 3 in like a few minutes.
The zombie girl with the snake in her head is one character I really want to try, she looks like tons of fun from what I've seen of her fightstyle ^_^
Also, we need a regular physical edition that doesn't cost an arm and a leg...
There are a lot of fighting games on Switch at this point. Really becoming a buyers market in that genre. BlazeBlue, Smash, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Skull Girls... just to name a few.
@Lizuka I want to get the game, but I have a feeling my favorite part of the game will be the designs/personalities of the different characters.
It took, what felt like, forever for my physical PS4 and Vita copies from Limited Run Games to arrive. It looks like they opted for a different publisher this time. Hopefully they expedite the release and shipping for the Switch version.
One of the best fighting games on the market. Maybe one of the best made since it's not only mechanically solid, but has a wealth of single player content and also tutorials that actually teach you how to play the game from the most basic inputs to performing long combos that will be your bread and butter.
Cool, I heard this had potential to release on Switch, glad to hear official news it's coming soon!
@LuciferOnReddit Ahhahahah thank you, your reply made my day. XD
Played this a lot on PC, though my interest petered out by the time they released Beowulf and Mecha-Fortune.
