Last July, Japanese magazine Famitsu revealed Flyhigh Works would publish a port of the mobile rhythm game Cytus on the Switch, under the new name of Cytus Alpha (or 'Cytus α'). It has now been confirmed the title will arrive in North America this April in both physical and digital formats. The initial release of the retail version will include a special CD, including music from a chapter of the game.
As previously noted, Cytus was originally developed by Rayark - the studio behind VOEZ and Deemo. We enjoyed both of these titles, awarding them 8/10 and 9/10 respectively in our reviews. The new rhythm game features futuristic graphics, more than 200 songs (new and old) and touch controls. There's also online multiplayer, where players can engage in score battles. Below are the key features, courtesy of the official PR:
- Music: More than 200 tracks from the original release with over 400 Charts, and additional unreleased songs, including exclusive songs from Cytus Ω, which are available in Chapter Ω! and collaborations from Chapter Ω!
- Visuals: Mesmerizing futuristic graphics with a new UI developed specifically for Nintendo Switch!
- Story: An in-depth data system for diving into even deeper story engagement!
- Difficulty: Easy to hard modes to satisfy beginners and veteran rhythm game players alike, and various musical tastes such as pop, jazz, trance, hardcore and more!

Wow, I know I haven't been back to the states in a while, but I wasn't aware that rhythm was missing in North America. When did that happen?
....Gameplay would've been nice for the video...
I know hardly anything about this game but that boxart alone is enough to make me want a physical copy, cuz hot dang that's gorgeous.
At a glance I thought this was going to be an old school Squeenix title, the picture looks very similar to Yoshitaka Amano's art.
Enjoyed Deemo quite a bit so I might get this too eventually if the music is good and it has controller play support.
@Heavyarms55 There was a sort of crash in popularity of the genre around when Guitar Hero and Rockband got driven into the ground. Now it's pretty niche, like JRPG's.
**Edit for clarity.
Cytus is a fantastic game on Android, and deep enough to deserve a well priced port/upgrade to Swiitch.
Broken robot girl and you have to fix her by playing a music game. Is this GRIS with rhythm? Also, most games these days are female oriented, if they use a male robot: it will be considered bad taste. Ever wondered why there are so many female protagonist in games now?
I bet Nintendo will soon introduced Maria, a female version of their mascot.
I'll definitely be grabbing the game at launch but conflicted about whether to get it physically or digitally. I always try to get physical where possible so I'll probably still do that but I have Deemo and VOEZ digitally (as neither had a physical copy at launch).
@Joeynator3000 You can take a look at the iOS version via Youtube to get an idea on how the game is. I definitely want to get the physical of this and VOEZ.
This sounds neat. Kinda like Kraftwerk meets Ex Machina. 🤖 Groovy.
@Retupmocnin I fail to see how games today are female oriented. When there were as many female gamers in the 90's than there were male gamers. Which is even more proven when alot of Video Game record holders are women. I guess both women can like a game even when a protagonist isn't the same gender as them, who would have guessed?
@Joeynator3000 google bro. It's a wonderful invention.
It's a teaser. A quick teaser unlike the 15 garage that was Last of Us 2 teaser video.
Plenty of Japanese Cytus videos.
@Retupmocnin Good luck getting nerdy male gamers to put together a sexy male robot with the power of music.
Time to import again. Does anyone know if the Japanese version will have English support like Deemo did? That one's going to be easier to get my hands on.
@Retupmocnin
Maybe you're just extra sensitive to games that feature women? I went to Metacritic just now and scrolled through all the recent releases from today to October 26th and I don't know what you're talking about.
Not even a hint of gameplay... this doesn't make me want to buy the game. There is no game!
