In preparation for the Christmas period later this month, Nintendo has rolled out a new firmware update for the Nintendo 3DS. Version 11.9.0-42 is by no means a game changer.
Once again, it's a minor update that aims to enhance the overall user experience and prevent any nasty exploits. Here's what you can expect in this latest update:
Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
Have you downloaded this update yet? Will you be spending time with your 3DS over the holiday season? Tell us in the comments.

No! Not more stability! Oh the humanity! #Nintendoomed
I try to play my Switch, but my 3DS is so stable I just keep coming back to it.
Apparently it removes some hotspots from the Nintendo Zone hotspot list.
The 3DS is more stable than my mental state.
@Bomberman64 I know all the McDonald's and Starbucks stopped working near me a while ago. Best buy has been even longer.
What do you mean this is no game changer?! Nintendo’s constantly evolving stability tech is helping keep the tectonic plates in balance
Man, it's been a while since I played my 3DS. I'm guessing I'll miss it dearly and play it again in a few months...
They do have to stop with these stability updates, though.
If the 3DS gets even more stable, it will become stuck in one single spot for the rest of its lifespan.
Or, if it becomes even more stable, it'll have unlimited horse power...
Yeah, I know. Figure it out...
Everything has been leading up to this moment.
3ds The Immortal.
Just let the thing die, Nintendo!
Who's your immoveable foundation in times of trouble? The one gravity leans on? Who will provide a spacious home for every horse in your vicinity? A shelter for many video game characters?
Vote for the 3DS this holiday season. Vote for stability. Stability is only an update away.
Paid for by associates of Nintendo.
It's something to look forward to...in a way that I'll barely notice.
The key to the future is stability
Obligatory stability joke.
Iceberg dead ahead!
Yawn... go back to sleep. We have a 3DS.
I play the 2DS XL way more than I do the switch. I bought the 2DS XL after the switch! Smart move by Nintendo to not kill support of the DS line.
It’s so stable that Wildcard is afraid to port Ark to it.
I played my 3DS on a plane after this update and we had 0 turbulence - the pilot even thanked me for the stability!!
Lol that's cute
My 3DS is so stable it hasn’t moved or even fallen over for months! How could it get more stable?!
The 3DS is more stable than our climate
It’s even stabler than the economy! (Politics, amirite?)
This operating system is so stable there are no more original jokes that can be made regarding its stability.
Including this one.
Its Stella getting updates huh,
Amazing
Yeap more stability and probably more ways to pissed off hackers.
Yay, I love stability!
I love Nintendolifers.
And wtf, why am I still laughing at these jokes? 😂
It says my SD card is write protected and refused to read my SD card. I've spent over 300$ downloading games from the E Shop and they pull this crap!
3ds is far more stable than Switch
Stable. Like where horses live? I want horses on my 3DS! Thanks Nintendo!
Hopefully they'll remove the miiverse icon one day. Its just a slap in the face to those of us who actually liked miiverse
@MichaelLewis dude that isn't a 3DS issue but a cheap sd card issue failure.
@Moonlessky
And it's a double pointless bit of clutter now for those that didn't much care for it. :-/
I love my little 2ds, it's my go to when commuting, but I do wish Nintendo would decide, let it die, or give it a resurgence. It's like when the switch came out, they let developers move away from the DS but won't put it out to pasture.
Upon writing this it occurred to me, it's money. The day they say the ds is dead is the day parents stop buying it for the kids. So, I can understand a little more now. Nintendo gots bills to pay too yo
oh boy I am so looking forward to Update 11.9.0-43!
Curious if this has anything to do with Yokai Watch 3 release.
Soon
The 3DSingularity
Right, the last few updates have been reported on in this manner. I would hereby like to go back to when the title was insanely clickbaity and the article kept teasing and misleading you into thinking something amazing was happening in the update. And then a stability joke. I miss it deeply and it was infuriatingly entertaining.
All that dust gathering on top of my 3ds will be more stable than ever!
No more stability thanks, but for the holiday season and after I will be playing Majoras Mask.
Just arrived can't wait to pick it up and play I the afternoon.
@MichaelLewis Flick the little switch on your SD card.
3DS: FOOL! I haven't even reach my most stable form! Hahaha
Oh, YES! My 3DS is more stable! I'm sure the 3DS is actually more stable now. I bet this totally isn't more protection to stop people from homebrewing their system. Thanks Nintendo! My Switch isn't stable enough though. I want it to be more stable please!
@Jacob1092 I remember how whenever my 3DS would update I'd be super excited to see if it actually added something useful. But I'd always be insanely dissapointed. I would scrounge the internet to see if the update actually did something, only to find out it was more protection from people attempting to homebrew the system. Little ol' me had no idea what that was at the time though so I was super confused.
@Moonlessky Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Nintendo publicly said that they'll never remove the Miiverse icon, it sucks in my opinion, it's like putting a picture of your dead dog right above your bed.
@redwingleader they're all gone outside of the Nintendo New York store, and I doubt they're ever coming back, this thing seems to be in the phase out time now with all that's gone, and the fact "new" games are nearly all remakes/ports.
@Echang well that just sucks, all the kids getting a 2dsxl for xmas will have a pointless icon taking up space in their ds
Nintendo switch uses smash ultimate release to attack 3ds directly, however the 3ds activate its spell card stability to soften the hit. sorry I had to do it... XD (yugioh reference)
Good. A stable. My legs are killing me. I would like to checkout Epona. Thanks.
oh yes, those nasty nasty exploits ... Pft. (' > ') { talk to da hand
