Stardust Galaxy Warriors: Stellar Climax launches today on Nintendo Switch, bringing yet another round of shoot 'em up action to the console. To celebrate, Aksys Games has launched a brand new trailer (seen above).
Developed by Dreamloop Games, Stardust Galaxy Warriors is a fast-paced, side-scrolling shooter with four-player local co-op capability, light RPG elements with upgradable mech characters, and a variety of different gameplay modes for players to explore. As a new recruit to Stardust Galaxy Warriors, an interstellar peacekeeping organisation, you must take on a ten-level campaign mode and battle your way through different worlds.
Along the way, you'll be coming up against plenty of enemies big and small while experiencing a story said to be full of humour and "stunning graphics". You can choose from five different characters, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses, and then go on to upgrade them via RPG-like mechanics such as boosting their weapon damage, armour effectiveness, and other attributes and stats.
For those who like to tweak their gaming experiences to their preference, you'll be pleased to know that the game allows you to change the default parameters and rules to suit your playstyle (including things like health and shield levels, fire and drop rates, and even hit box sizes). You can also enable friendly-fire in co-op mode, adding another level of difficulty if the story, challenge, and 'Gauntlet' modes aren't enough for you.
The game is available to download right now from the Nintendo Switch eShop; you'll find it for £8.99 in Europe and $9.99 in North America.
Will you be giving this one a go today? Let us know in the comments.

Looks interesting enough for the price, music was on point as well.
I've just put 220 dollars into my switch and I still have not made a dent in my wish list. I can't afford this system...too many games to buy!
I know what you mean. I love retro games so I have bought virtually every NeoGeo/Arcade Archives/retro remaster/etc (excluding the multiple versions of fighting games etc.) and that alone is a lot of money. That's not counting the retail games and other eshop games I've bought!
I kept wanting to pass this up every time I looked at it, but I added it to my wishlist anyway. With some of those customizations, even amateur mech-shmupers like me and my friend might be able to get some miles out of this. Hopefully I'll see a review or Nindie Round Up on it soon.
I've played this extensively on PS4. It's a lot of fun. Not too short, but not too long for a shmup, and very customizable. The difficulty is up to you, and it's even got some humor. For the price, it's a good deal.
I might double dip just for the portable aspect.
For the folks at home keeping count, there are three worthy shumps out this week: R-Type Dimensions, Rival Megagun and this one.
Seems awesome. May try it eventually.
I can’t be seen buying a shoot em up on the Switch that doesn’t feature buxom ladies in highly untactical flight suits
It may not be Ikaruga or Danmaku Unlimited 3... but Stardust Galaxy Warriors would make an excellent eShop collection of must buy SHUMPs!
@RadioHedgeFund I'd play any game with that as a feature.
