Panstasz and Ysbryd Games have announced that World of Horror, an "unsettling cosmic horror retro RPG", will be heading to Nintendo Switch in 2019.
In a small, seaside town of Japan, the population’s sanity is dwindling and otherworldly, grotesque creatures have started to terrorise its inhabitants. Players must navigate this hellish, roguelite reality through turn-based combat and unforgiving choices. You can experiment with the events of any playthrough by building a deck of event cards, discovering different outcomes for your battles against the darkness. Different decks may even unlock new mysteries or clues.
The game features branching storylines with five playable characters available to brave the chaos, each with their own different perspective on the events that unfold. You'll need to unravel puzzles and mysteries through spells that sacrifice sanity, uncover disturbing and shocking clues, and diligently search every nook and cranny, scouring for helpful items that may come in handy.
Pawel Kozminski, founder of Panstasz, has said the following on the game's announcement:
"I set out to create something that illustrates just how vulnerable one’s sanity can be. I want World of Horror to haunt players in a way that creates an uncomfortable sense of apprehension, something that slowly builds uneasiness and anxiety through atmosphere and the uncanny."
It certainly sounds like an intriguing one with its haunting chiptune and 1-bit art style; we'll make sure to keep an eye out for any further news on the game over the next few months.
Until then, why not share your initial impressions with us in the comments below?

1-bit art style?
Hmm, from the video all i saw was a point and click, multiple answer type game, no turn based combat. Think this is a big pass for me.
If I'm not mistaken there is a Shiba shop owner in this game.
meh
@Bunkerneath That's what I was thinking. I wouldn't call this an RPG by any stretch. More a point and click adventure.
Loving the art style here.
Such a superb execution of the inspiration.
Writing and puzzle design really needs to be on point to support something like this though, but over on itch.io people have really been enjoying this game, so I'm very hopeful for this one!
Game is "name your price" on PC, so let's hope the price isn't too crazy on Switch.
...looks at thumbnail...
Has my attention
This is really neat looking! Very inspired. I'd actually forgotten this was coming.
Probably a day one buy if the dev prices it appropriately.
There's promise here, but right now it looks like "RPG" is being misused.
@Shiryu
Well spotted, though I think the game is considerably more Junji Ito than Initial D
@Ralizah
The dev is publishing it through Ysbryd Games, who previously brought out stuff like VA-11 HALL-A and YIIK, so the price is likely to be reasonable.
I’ll probably buy this since I’ve purchased every horror game on the Switch so far.
This gets a "Hmm..." from me as I see things that I like, but still there's more questions than answers I have. I shall await more info.
@VegasKeith The game has RPG stats for different characters and a battle system. It is an RPG.
This looks interesting. I’ll keep an eye on it.
Skool Daze has taken a weird turn...
This would probably feel most right on the computer.
@idrawrobots Then I'm more interested. Might have been a good idea to tease those elements in the trailer.
@SDF_Macross77 Just fyi, based on the reviews of the PC version of this game, there are substantial RPG elements. Several of the reviews refer to a "card-based" system.
Ooo nice art style
This looks amazing. Holy crap.
@gloom Are there any horror games on Switch that you’d strongly recommend?
@imgrowinglegs Number one on the eshop right now is Layers of Fear. Very well made scary title. 10/10 in my book! Outlast 1&2 are obvious choices as well, but some fun I’ve also had was with the budget title Don’t Knock Twice. It was only fun with a group and plenty of drinks though... and the next game I’m playing through right now is Little Nightmares. So far I’d recommend!
Oh wow, that looks really rad.
@SDF_Macross77 I think it's more like a tabletop rog than JRPG by the sounds of it with the card based gameplay etc.
@Pod I haven't watched video jet, but got definite Junji Ito vibes from the description. Sounds very similar to Uzumaki to me, which is a good thing.
@Wraggadam1 @kirbygirl Thanks for the heads up! It looks interesting so I'll definitely check it out.
I started playing the demo of this on PC a couple days ago; simple but addictive best describes it, yet I'll keep this off my Switch.
@Wraggadam1 Yeah, the creator of this game said he made it with Ito's style in mind.
@Shiryu That was the only reason I clicked on it. I was like "so where is the Initial D."
@JayJ We got bamboozled!
@Pod what happened with this game now
@anoyonmus
Wish I knew, man!
It never actually arrived on Switch. Or PS4 for that matter.
No official announcement made on why, but I've looked around a bit.
It released on Steam in late February 2020, right before the first COVID19 lockdowns. Poland was hit fairly hard by the pandemic, and the game is made by one guy.
Judging from his Twitter feed, he's been pretty busy since that first official release with making sure both the PC and Mac versions are stable and bugfree.
So, we can probably assume he'd still WANT to release on Switch, but that things haven't gone the way he expected.
